    Pro-150 Slicer, September 14, 2009
    By travelman from South Dakota

"Calling this slicer the Pro-150 is flat wrong! I doubt it could handle anything more than occasional home use but that will not likely be a problem because I doubt any professional would use it. The unit runs slowly and seems to be underpowered. While it says it will slice to 5/8" I checked with a ruler and the unit I bought only would cut to a max of 1/2".
This unit does not come with a tray to catch the slices and they fall on the back of the slicer behind the cutting blade onto the Base Housing or slide down the angled Base Housing onto the table behind the slicer. It would be hard to get a tray to stay in place to catch the slices even if it came with a catch tray becasue the Base Housing is angled.
The directions say not to cut frozen meat, and I found that when one cuts thawed meat like a boneless pork loin the slicer will pull the meat at an angle away from the Food Presser so that slices are not evenly thick. When I tried to slice a boneless beef roast, many slices also came out unevenly sliced.

Looks good, but performance is terrible, December 27, 2008
By Tdarst from Baton Rouge, LA.

"My wife purchased one of these for me this Christmas (2008) at my request. Regretfully, it is going to be returned because it has 3 major flaws that render it useless for my purposes:

    1. The blade is dull
    2. The gearing turns the blade too slow
    3. The gap between the moving meat table and the blade is far too large (nearly 1/2" - and this is constant no matter the slice thickness setting). When combined with the dull blade and slow speed of the blade, the slicer does not cut the meat; rather it pulls it down between the table and the blade, leaving the bottom edge of whatever you're slicing uncut, ragged and growing with each pass. If you do not stop and manually trim it, it eventually produces enough friction/interference to bog the motor down.

If you just need a cool looking kitchen ornament that you really can't use - it's a great deal. If you need something to actually slice meat with, look elsewhere.

    Slicer, October 6, 2008
    By Teacherbill

"I finally used my new slicer this weekend. I normally make a couple hundred pounds of jerky in the fall. This slicer was very easy to use. It cuts quick, didn't bog down and kept on running for an hour. It cut through the sinew and fat without slowing down or turning the meat as my last slicer did. The adjustment for the blade glided smoothly to the thickness that I wanted, and did not move the entire time I was slicing. Cleanup could be easier, especially if the sliding tray was easily removed, but I will happily settle for a little extra scrubbing to have it cut as perfectly as it did."

    Pro 150 Slicer, September 23, 2008
    By Bravo47 from Greenfield, Ohio

"I ordered the product despite a low rating because one reviewer had very good success cutting up quite a few deer with it. With a meat slicer, I expected to receive a razor sharp blade, but instead got a very dull blade that rivaled every dull butcher knife I had hoped the slicer would replace. The motor speed was agonizingly slow and when feeding a pork loin into the very dull blade, it bogged down noticably under the load. The meat was pushed down and away from the feed table by the very dull blade as it forced it's way through, leaving the bottom edge of the cut ragged and thicker than the top edge. Once the meat was in full contact with the unguarded and very dull blade, it was forcibly pulled away from the push plate and feed table. The meat then stuck to and revolved with the blade! The unit had to be shut down before the meat could be plucked from the blade and returned to the feed table. This happened with each attempted cut. The full thickness setting measured less than 1/2", not 5/8" as advertised. I cleaned the unit and boxed it back up. Save yourself the trouble and buy an electric knife sharpener to put a sharp and consistent edge on all your dull butcher knives. I exchanged the slicer for one."

"I would highly reeccomend this slicer for the homeowner,It is light enough that you can move it to and from storage without breaking your back ,But it has the power of a commercial slicer.Like many of the items you buy from Cabelas they stand behind there products and this one is a winner in my book,WE LOVE IT."

    Mostly Plastic, August 5, 2008
    By Heaterman from Canton, ME

"I bought this for my wife and she wasn't happy that the slicer was mostly made of plastic. She wanted a slicer of a more industrial grade. Probably OK for the average kitchen but not durable enough for ours."

    Pro Slicer ?? Hum, July 15, 2008
    By SergeQuebec from Quebec, Canada

"I don't think you can consider this slicer as a PRO equipment but it is doing the job correctly for occasionnal usage.

We used it successfully on deer and moose "filet mignon" half-frozen and on cheese.

Most of the parts are easy to clean.

    Good product for the price.

Great for Home use, March 18, 2008
    By FXSTD1 from Cleveland, Oh

"Folks, this is a really good slicer for home use. I've had a couple of the lesser name brand home slicers and this one is by far much better than most. Don't be confused this isn't the commercial slicer used at your local market but it certainly does the job. I've used it on Ham's, corned beef, Roast beef. As long as you are a little patient it cuts nice unform slices and works just fine. Clean up could be a bit easier, the blade is easily removed, while the base takes some effort to clean up well after a greasy corned beef.
Overall I'd say this is one of the better slicers out there for home use.

Pro 150 Slicer Makes Wonderful Minutes Steaks, February 1, 2008
    By JanisW from Newton, KS

"My husband & I process our own venison. Over the years we have collected quite a group of your products that make our job much easier. Among them is a slicer. We use it most during "venison season" but also pull it out for special meals.

Our first slicer came from Cabelas & served us well. About four years ago it quit in the middle of processing of several animals. Due to the temperatures in our garage, where we hang the animals, we couldn't wait for another one to be shipped so we bought one here in town. It was difficult to operate and didn't slice well. Prior to the beginning of the big processing rush this year we ordered a new one from the fall catalogue. We bought the Pro 150. The blade is smooth, it is easy to clean and above all gives us uniform slices from each muscle. A large protion of each hind quarter is turned into minute steaks. Using the Pro 150 and a cuber, also offered in the catalogue, we are able to turn half of a venison into wonderful minute steaks in about an hour. Getting the job done quickly is very important since we both are employed full time.

Several times a year I cater meals to my husband's lodge. Most of the members are elderly, so using the slicer makes it easy to make small portions rather than depending on the grocery store butcher to do it. It also allows me to take basic ingredients like carrots and turn them into elegant carrot curls. As you know, presentation is very important when preparing meals for others.

"I think that the slicer work Ok. But it does not wook great it leave a area at the bottem of what you a slicing not sliced a the same thickness as every were else. All in all it works well enough for the home. But if you are planing to slice a lot of meet I would recomend looking a othe produce of a more industrial size."
