Fair,November 19, 2009
By Leesiefrom St. John's Newfoundland Canada
"Bought this product for our 80 lb GSP. Got the large and it fits him. It's great for protecting his chest in the brush and very visable at a distance. Really like the product. However, it rubbed his front legs and he developed a rash under his front legs. Had to stop wearing it."

Chaffe stopper,November 18, 2009
By steve2baileyfrom Greham, Oregon
"My dog usually gets shredded in the wheat stubble and usually shortens our hunting trips. This year she was a hero. No chaffing which kept her stamina up. Nice piece of equipment. I pat myself on the back for this purchase and my dog thanks me too!"

Ripstop Chest Protector,November 18, 2009
By Anonymous
"Bought 2. 1 small for a Brittney and 1 medium for a German Short Hair. Both appeared to fit well at first. After a very short time, both dogs slowed down and almost quit hunting. Checked out the dogs and both had very sore front leg pits where the nylon had rubbed them raw. Took off these vests and put neoprene on them and they were happy. Ended up returning these vests. Would not buy them unless you have the ability to cut them to fit and then re-sew the edges. Neoprene is much better to custom fit."

bad for the dog,November 4, 2009
By imsorryfrom Minnesota
"I used this product for my Golden Retriever (about 65 lbs) and lab (about 70lbs) we were in So Dakota and the in the Cackle burs and the Sand burs. The burs were easy to get out of the sides after they fell down in to the vest from the top after each field we walked but did not stop the burs in the pits and up under the chest of the vest. The back of the legs were rub raw and are now scabbed over. The long hair of the golden gave more protection but the rubbing and chafing still happened. I tried duct tape the chest but that opened the pits more and did not stop the rub. This is not a well designed product for a all day hunt or multiple day hunt. Do not use it - save the dogs from the pain."

Chest protector,November 4, 2009
By NDhunt2009from Wisconsin
"I run Vizsla's on upland birds and often have raw dogs following a days hunt. On a recent trip to ND I put the dogs in Cabelas Ripstop Chest Protectors hoping their undersides would last 4 days of long hunting. The chest protector did its job extremely well and the fit was spot on. My dogs were less raw on the underside of their chest, but the inner aspects of their hind legs still took a beating. I also had a problem with the straps rubbing hair off across their backs. This was a problem I did not anticipate. On the 4th day I opted to remove the vest with the concern for abrasions across their backs. I have mixed emotions regarding the vest, my gut tells me it saved the dogs some agony. I plan on continuing to use the chest protector, but remain cautious about the straps. Maybe I need dogs with more hair? Just kidding, once you hunt with a Vizsla you'll never want to hunt behind anything else."

Dog Vest,November 4, 2009
By FerrisStateUniveristyfrom MI
"I have a hard running English Setter female and hunt mostly grouse and woodcock in Michigan. My dog has a thin coat and this vest fit well and did a great job of protecting her in heavy cover. Great product, easily adjusts to fit, adjustments stay in place, the quick release snaps work well and goes on/off with easy. So far I have had no problems and I'm very satisfied."

Chest protector exceeded expectations,November 2, 2009
By RDGCfrom Portland, OR
"Vest is very durable, easy to adjust, and does very well at protection of chest and adds great visibility of the dog and her whereabouts in the field. Construction is sturdy and should last many seasons. It is the best of all the vests I was able to find and review on the internet."

Chest Protector,October 31, 2009
By ColtMCfrom San Diego County
"Just bought the Ripstiop Chest Protector last month. Arrived just in time for our first hunt in the Mtns of San Diego County hunting Mtn Quail. Verry rugged terrian nasty thorn bushes and sharp rocks. The Protector was a little tight for my pointer in the chest area and the belly area protrudes too far aft near his privates. When he pees it gets into the protector, kinda nasty. I cut the material back about 2 inches. The protector held up well under a fullday hunt. It was very warm and it could use more side ventaltion or mesh for hot climates. Over all it worked very well. When I inspected it after the hunt you could see huge throne and rock scratches on the protector. Without the protector those scratches I'm sure would have resulted in deep cuts and would have ended our day with an emergancy trip to the vet."

DO NOT BUY,October 31, 2009
By dustyafrom Montana
"I bought this vest for my lab two weeks ago because her nipples were getting rubbed raw while she was hunting in cattails and brush. She is a small dog and the large size fit her torso good. It kept her underside from getting any worse but it rubbed her leg pit area raw and now I have a worse problem with where it rubbed than if I would have hunted her without it. I would never recommend this to anyone and if I hadn't tried to modify it so it would work - I would have sent it back for a refund. A definite no buy."

Ripstop Chest Protector,October 27, 2009
By Varmintmanfrom Gorham, New Hampshire
"I bought this product for my 16 month old Brittany and it's done a good job of protecting his chest and stomach in heavy brush hunting partridge in New Hampshire. The only problem is the length of the front strap around his chest. It's a little bit too tight and I had to modify it. Other than that it's a good product.

Chest protector for Bird Dogs,October 21, 2009
By MrCHDfrom Montana
"Received the Ripstop chest protector and have used it on several occasions.
It is to hard to place on the dog, it does not provide the protection or visibility for the dog in brushy terrain that it is marketed to do.
Nor does it provide any warmth for the dog when he gets wet. Infact it does not allow the dog to shake free of water and it retains the water between the dog and the inside of the vest, thus causing the dog to get "chilled" during cold weather.
The only benefits are that the vest is water proof thus it does not add weight to the dog when hunting, and the dog knows he is headed for a hunt when he sees the vest in my hands. But this can be accomplished with any prop or toy."

The best dog vest I have found,October 20, 2009
By bizzerste
"Its not perfect, but I have tried every other vest out on the market and this is by far the best one. They run very small, my 35lb springer spaniel wore a medium. My 65lb golden retriever was too big for a large. Also, my 60lb golden fit into the large but the cut is not right for him. The cut is definetely better for a dog with the same build as a springer spaniel. Overall though, its a great vest, very durable and looks good."

Very Durable and very visible,October 9, 2009
By summitmanfrom South Dakota
"Used this vest several times on my Lab. So far it fits well and is holding up...just the start of the season though. The visibilty on this vest is by far the best I have come across. Straps clasp well...better then velcro on my older one. I also like the durable material on the front should hold up well and seems to be flexible enough."

Product is constructed well,May 11, 2009
By TahoeFanfrom Pittsburgh, PA
"Positive: The chest protector is easy to put on and to take off the dog and it's very well made. Caution: When I originally purchased the vest for my 60lb female GSP, I purchased the medium size, per the manufacturer sizing chart on box- turned out the vest was too small and I had to purchase the large size, which is for dogs 65+lbs. Purchasing the next size up for your dog may be a good idea. Also, this product should be limited to cold weather use given it does not have any ventillation panels. Negative: I noticed the vest rubs & irrates my dog around the front of her legs. I think the manufacturer should have sewn some padding inside the vest around the pressure points to protect the dog. All in all, this is a well constructed product."

Excellent Vest, our Rubi loves it!!!!,February 23, 2009
By Deputycozfrom New Jersey
"We recently rescued Rubi from the local shelter, it turns out she is mostly Flat Coated Retriever and Border Collie. So what does that mean you ask? It means we have a dog that loves to run.
We love taking Rubi for her long runs in the forest near our home and there is alot of brush and briars. We had found a couple scrape marks on her chest from running through the brush (really they are wild blueberry bushes) so we searched for a vest to protect her. This vest works perfectly and it is an added bonus having the reflective strips. Rubi is black and when walking her at night, even with a flashlight she is difficult to see. She loves being off leash so around our property we let her run, she always stays close but we still want to be able to see her, the reflective strips are very easy to see at night with light on her.
Rubi knows it is time for her walks when we pull the vest out, she gets excited, she has even started to put her feet in the holes when the vest is laid out on the floor, not always perfect but she is getting there.
Rubi is about 45lbs and we purchased a medium, it fits her great and there has been no problems with chafing under her front legs."
