DONT BUY THIS!!!,September 22, 2009
By Shannon77from Upstate NY
"I have had this collar for a year and a half with very little use. I just got a new pup and wanted to use it with him and the collar and receiver will not connect. I went through the reconnect process several times before calling tech support to find out it would be a charge of $80 just to look at my collar! Then they attemped to sell me a new collar at a discount. Burn me once shame on you, but not happening a second!!!!"

Good Product,September 18, 2009
By MTBirdHunterfrom Montana
"I have had a chance to use the SD-800 about a dozen times since purchasing it. It has worked just as advertized and has really helped the training process. The only problem I have had is the antenna came off while I was in the field, and they are backordered for two months. So as long as you make sure to keep the antenna screwed on tight, this product works well."

SportDOG,September 9, 2009
By Bswanafrom Washington State, avid hunter, with wife son 3dogs
"What I like about the unit is that it is fully adjustable from level 1 through 8 and it has a tone as well.
My training method has always included a single whistle blast for sit and with this unit i can give a single tone for sit.
I can hold the tone button for constant sound which I have trained for the come command.
There is a constant stimulus button for constant shock which I have never utilized and do not recommend at any stimulus level.
And there is a what I call the pinch button which gives one short stimulus. This is to simulate a tug on the training tether.
The highest setting I have utilized is three with the small probes. with the coat dry and the collar loose.
With the collar properly fitted the setting on one is plenty to simulate a tug on the training tether for my dog.
If you have not gotten the gist the collar is not to cause pain and if this is your intent then you should not have a dog.
If you have not trained your dog to sit on a whistle, come to a whistle, to stay on command, and to lay down on command then do not buy a collar.
If your dog does not know the NO command then do not by this collar.
Love and praise and yes discipline when warranted is the best way to train.
The collar should not used to discipline.
Do not do something you cannot take back and that you will regret.
Here is to you and your loyal friend for the rest of their life as short as short as it is,... enjoy them for every moment."

SD-800 collar used with my lab,August 31, 2009
By McGregorfrom Bucks County, Pa
"I've been using this collar for about 3 months now and I don't have a bad word to say about it. At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to use a shock collar on my dog after talking to a lot of people who frowned upon them. I have a Chocolate Lab who is now 1 year old. He is my first dog and I'm working on training him for waterfowl and upland birds, we are both learning as we go. After using the collar for just 1 week I began to see improvement in his behavior. I wish I would have gotten one sooner and I can't imagine life without it now. Used as a reinforcement to commands it is a life saver. The video that came with the collar is also very informational. The day it arrived I put the collar on him and took him swimming. Then began using it the very next day. He swims at least twice a week and I've never had an issue. About a month later an unfortunate event happened causing me to have to jump in the water and I didn't realize that the remote was in my pocket. It was submerged about 10 minutes, never had a problem with it. It is definitely a good tool that is worth the money. Also, it has 8 levels of stimulation and I rarely need level 4."

SportDog Field Trainer SD-800,July 24, 2009
By Greydaddyfrom New Jersey
"I've only had and used the product for about one month, but haven't had any problems. It's only used about two hours a day and so far the transmitter and collars (I have two dogs)have held their battery charge, although the collars are mostly just worn and haven't been used for stimulating much. It's easy to use. I could rate it 5 stars, except there's no provision for a tone correction when there's more than 1 dog. As much as I'd like to see the tone option, I haven't had any trouble with response, being each dog responds to the lowest setting and gets the message without being mistreated. So far, so good!"

loved this,July 17, 2009
By Elliesmomfrom Ridgewood, NJ
"Used to "refocus" my chow mix, who sometimes forgets to return for minutes at a time when off-leash-mail trucks are a particular attraction-and this got her back on track! Just a tone was enough of an "Act of G-d" to snap her out of her intensity and come running back! Thanks for peace of mind."

Great Trainer,June 24, 2009
By Marty1326inMNfrom Forest Lake, MN
"Had for over a year. Works very well for training and hunting with my year old yellow lab. Range has not been an issue at all and battery seems to hold charge during a whole day of field hunting. Only problems have been a poor clip on lanyard, which I replace w another lanyard and charging port plugs are a bit flimsy. I would still recommend!"

Alright product,May 11, 2009
By customer1001from South
"It's an OK product. I wish i would have got the 400 instead. This one's a little bulky. And I didn't really need the longer range. (800 yds vs 400 yds). I haven't been able to find a holster for this one either that i liked. I'd recommend the 400 over the 800."

SD-800,March 23, 2009
By okmarshhunterfrom Oklahoma
"I bought this collar to help train my lab pup for hunt tests. Worked great to keep him focused on long marks. Worked wonders for my older labs manners who thought that he could get away with something as long as he was out of reach. However, I wish that the side button could be set up for momentary nics while still being able to use the tone in another button."

E-Collar,September 22, 2008
By aws231from Kansas
"Works great! Have a lab that sometimes gets tunnel vision. Only a couple of nights, and minimal electric "tutoring" and she was ranging much and minding commands much faster. I've trained only a few bird dogs and don't know how I ever did it without one. This is a must for anyone who's serious about training their own dogs."

Nice Unit,September 22, 2008
By WeimWalkerfrom Saskatchewan
"I bought this unit to put the finishing touches on my dog and to give me that little extra when my Weimaraner gets unfocused. When the collar is fitted properly I have found that I rarely get out of the 1 setting and if need be I find 2 is usually enough to bring him back from even big distractions. I love that the hand held unit is small and walki talkie like so when out walking it doesn't look like I am caring a huge e-collar device. Over all love the product."

Relationship Saver,August 25, 2008
By rickMAfrom Boston, MA
"An aquaintance recommended this product and called it a "relationship saver" for him and his dog. I now understand what he meant. I've got a german shepherd dog who is well trained on leash, but way too headstrong offleash and generally ignored me. I conditioned her to wearing the collar, followed the instructions and helpful DVD, and in no time she was responding quickly to my commands offleash. I was hesitant at first, but I see now that it's definitely a relationship saver, and potentially a dog's life saver as well."

muddy dog,August 13, 2008
By kotyfrom San Diego
"I have an almost 3 year old Labrador Retriever that I was training to be my service dog. We also took group and private lessons every week using positive clicker method for 1 year. She has done very well, however, she still has much "puppy evergy" so I take her to the dog park every day to blow off energy. At about a 1 1/2 old I realized she was better off as my pal and not a service dog. She is one of those labradors that is very very obsessed with retireving balls 10 hours a day. She also has an immense love of water, splashing out water bowls. She also rolls in every mud hole she can find at the dog park. I mainly purchased the SportDog 800 so I could keep her out of the mud. Nothing else has deterred her desire to cool off. Yesterday I had the opportunity to use it at the dog park as she started to go for a big muddy, mucky water hole. It stopped her dead in her tracks. I got to go home with a relatively clean dog! I only had to use level 1. I totally feel it is worth purchasing and not cruel if used correctly. I don't mind a wet dog, but a muddy dog is a lot of work to clean every day. I am glad I have this other tool to use as I continue to train my dog to be the best pal around."

Works great so far,July 28, 2008
By Angelripperfrom Portland, Oregon
"My Native American Indian Dog pup, Tessa, was stubborn, willful, and very crafty, and normal training measures were having few positive results. I asked around, and someone in the know mentioned that a collar of this type might help. But, having little knowledge of this type of product, I had to do extensive research before making a purchase.
The SD-800 seemed to fit the profile of what I was looking for. Rechargeable, waterproof, good distance, instructional booklet and dvd, multiple settings, and within my price range.
So far, I couldn't be happier with this product and the online and phone help I got from Cabela's. My dog has responded well, picked up some new tricks, polished up some others, and become much more the companion I was looking for. I HAVE NOT taken the collar or the transmitter into the water, nor have I pushed the maximum distance parameters, but other than that, the SD-800 does exactly what it says it will do, and I've been very pleased with its performance.
