Beeman Sportsman's SS 1000H Air Rifle

Capable of shooting .177-caliber pellets at 1,000 fps, this sporting air rifle is a good choice for everything from target shooting to hunting small game. It comes with a 3-9x32mm variable scope and mount. The fine hardwood stock is Monte Carlo-style and equipped with a contoured rubber butt pad. A muzzle brake is fitted to the rifled barrel. Automatic safety. Cocking effort is 35 lbs. Overall length: Approximately 48" Weight: 8.4 lbs. Nice Gun for the Money, but could be better., April 28, 2009

"This gun is nice for the money. It looks great out of the box. It is very hard to break the barrel to cock it. I sited it in easily, and it is very accurate at 40 yards. It Took approximately 75-100 pellets. Both the elevation and the windage adjustments on the scope are at there limits in movement/adjustment, but the gun is "right on" now with a pattern the size of a quarter at 40 yards. Instruction Manual could be a little more descriptive, and instructions for scope mounting not very informative. It was easy for me as I mounted many scopes throughout the years. Cannot bore sight the scope as there is a muzzle break on this gun, I am not sure why Beeman put this on this gun other than for a meaner look. There are no gases really that need to escape, so I do not see the need. One thing I noticed though that is a great disappointment, is that I bought Gamo .177 PBA pellets, and Gamo .177, 7.9 gr. led pellets, and neither would fit in the barrel. I had a box of Crosman Copperhead .177, 7.9 gr. pellets from an older air rifle, that I shot through this gun. Not sure what the deal is, but I will not force any ammo into a barrel. I plan to return this rifle to Cabelas, and purchase a Gamo. I selected that I recommend this gun to a friend, only if they have some knowledge of guns, have a little patience, and have the strength to cock it."

"I dont understand why some had trouble with this rifle and scope. I dialed this scope in with just a few shots and found mounting to be no problem at all. The rifle is a little heavy but makes it great for balance and durability. I think this rifle is a steal for the money. I have a couple more expensive air rifles that are no better than this one."

"it looks good but they have problems. the scope is like looking through coke bottles. the trigger pull is massive(nearly 10 lbs.). ths stock is huge,verry long in the trigger pull."

"I TOOK THE AIR RIFLE OUT OF THE BOX PUT THE SCOPE ON,AS I WAS SCOPING THE RIFLE IN IT BROKE AFTER LIKE 15 SHOTS,THE BARREL WOULDN'T STAY IN THE COCKED POSITION ALSO IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO BREAK OPEN THE BARREL TO LOAD AND COCK THE GUN.I RETURNED IT WITH NO PROBLEM AND GOT ANOTHER AIR RIFLE BY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER."

"Well, to start my unfortunate experience, I purchased 2 air rifles from Cabelas it took 5 days for my items to leave the warehouse, almost 2 weeks for my products to arrive. Next my Gamo Shadow Sport arrived used/defective, the scope crosshairs were turning inside the scope housing. Then the SSBeemanH broke down 2 weeks later, would not cock to load a pellet, the barrel would just swing back up. I received a Walther Talon in exchange for the Gamo will attempt to sight this in this week, if not its going back!!!The Beeman got traded in for a Ruger Hawk Elite, the scope will not sight in, my brother won't deal with Cabelas anymore instead he ordered a different scope and will take the loss. If not for the friendly and courteous staff at Cabelas, I would have sent everything back for credit."

Heavy-Duty Power, January 28, 2008

"Positives:
Overall, this has been a great airgun for me. I have used it for general plinking and to nail a few yard pests--which it did VERY effectively. It definitely has plenty of power--You will know what I mean after the first shot you take with it. Other reviews of this gun mentioned that you should forget about the rated speed, and use the heaviest pellet available. You will sacrifice a little speed, but you will still have all that kinetic energy delivered on target--only more accurately. I believe this to be true with this gun. Using the heaviest .177 pellets I could find on Cabelas.com, I shoot very tight groups! :-)
Cons:
The scope for this gun is cheap, but at this price point you can't really expect much I guess. Well not much is exactly what you get. It has terrible focus, and because of that you really do NOT have the full 3X9 magnification capability. For example, if you focus it while at 6X, then it will be out of focus at 9X or 3X. I tinkered and found a tolerable mix of focus and magnification for my needs. Expect to do the same.
Another con is that this gun is a LOT louder than I expected. I almost sounds like a .22 short--really goes with quite a "Crack!" when you pull that trigger. It may get you some unwanted attention from your neighbors.
Five Stars for the overall gun--GREAT power and accuracy!
Minus One Star for the scope."

"I received my SS 1000H Combo (.177) a few months ago and was amazed at how much I got for the price. After minor assembly and sighting in, I began to shoot for accuracy. The groups, at first were disappointing but as time went by they improved. The final 15 meter groups averaged
1" for five shots. Not bad.
But a problem surfaced: the safety began to fail and I tried to contact the manufacturer, without success, for repair. I finally contacted Cabela's with my problem and they came to my rescue. I was able to return the gun and exchange it for a different one. Problem solved! You just can't beat Cabela's customer relations.
The SS 1000H is a terrific bargain but mine didn't work. Another one might?"

"This is a very good gun. I have shot alot of guns like the whisper and crossmans but this by far the best. At 35 yards is where i have it sighted in and I can group it at 3 inches shooting free handed at 35 yards. Shoot these with the gamo tomahawks and it will will put a huge punch on any small game animals like rabbits and squirrels."

"This is the first adult airgun that i`ve bought.I have many other shotguns and centerfire guns that i shoot.I wanted something that i could shoot in our addition and not get the police called on me!The gun arrived faster than they said and i was very pleased when i opened the box.This gun is alot bigger than i thought it would be!It has the look of a sniper rifle i think.It took 50 or so rounds though it to get it dialed in,but from what i`ve read on airguns thats normal.It is very powerful and a blast to shoot.The quality seems to be very good.I think you will be impressed if you decide on one.Do what i did and read up on airgun shooting and don`t get discouraged when you can`t shoot it as good as your other rifles!It is a whole differant gun than your others and it takes alot of practice(which is cheap).I am allready looking at another airgun,I think these could become addictive!!!!!!!!!"

"This rifle,although it looks better made than it is,was quite a dissapointment. The cocking mechanisim is not user friendly and after just 50 to 60 shots I noticed a decrease in power and accuracy. I understand the scope is low end and priced accordingly. The package was not worth the money compared to other products in a simmilar price range."

"This rifle was surprisingly loud at first. After a handful of shots, the sound subsided. The accuracy, at first, was not impressive. After shooting it a while, shots dialed into about the size of a quarter---very nice. My only gripe is that the scope does not come pre-mounted."

"I just received this gun and took it out today. I started at 20 yards shooting into a beeman trap. I was hitting paper. I shot a few times and adjusted the scope. I moved back to 25 yards and am hitting the black spot on the target!! I am impressed with how fast the gun is. I admit I have only shot a Daisy power line 880 (which is 750 fps) but that gun does not even compare to this one! One thing I did not realize is the size of the gun. This gun is larger and heavier than my muzzleloader!! I am very impressed with this gun and am looking forward to taking care of a few squirrels and rabbits with it! (destroying my yard!) Oh yea, a bit of recoil but the rubber but pad takes care of that. As for the scope, I like the variable power but I am partial to a 3X9-40mm instead of the 3X9-32mm."
