    it's not the gun, August 16, 2009
    By concretegod from Watertown, SD

"I have purchased this rifle and love it. After reading other reviews with "less" approval, you have to realize that if you aren't grouping your shot like you want, it may not be the gun, it could be your optics.
I do agree that there should be a scope on this rifle that is not made for 100yd shots, because you do have to turn the adjustments quite a few clicks to move your next shot and it's doubtful that you will take a shot that far and be successful.
Anyway, I haven't had any of the problems that I've read about and it only took me 6 shots to get the scope dialed in and it has stayed deadly accurate. I've also put a red dot laser site and light on mine...mainly cuz it looks cool, but everything is very functional.

    Defective, May 17, 2009
    By feral

"Rec'd the Gamo Varmit Hunter for Christmas '08. I've tried 4 scopes (including the Leupold off my .06), 5 scope mounts, GAMO's "scope stop", and PermaTex thread locker on all the screws. Results have varied from a "shotgun" pattern on the target, to fairly accurate groups for 3-5 shots befor it starts to randomly wander (several inches between shots at 25 yds!!). GAMO support claims that their guns are very sensitive and that I'm holding the gun incorrectly (this was after their direction for thread locker, and purchasing thier scope stop didn't help - and btw, I've hunted for 35 years/been around guns all my life). I've tried holding the gun and pulling the trigger in every possible combination. After reading other posts about GAMO, I'm pretty sure "some" defect is present in "some" of their guns. My final conclusion: don't buy. You can get similar accuracy by throwing a rock."

    Impressed, May 7, 2009
    By DeadeyewithViper

"I have owned a Viper for one week and I am totally impressed. I have it sighted in at 50 feet. In a black circle the size of a quarter I am able to consistantly plant pellets in the certer of the target. A group of 5-6 shots consistantly create one hole in the center smaller than a dime, with all shots touching. It took only 6 shots to zero it in. The scope is sweet!!

    Thanks Gamo!!!!!!! Great adult toy!!!!!!!

great gun, not so great scope, April 30, 2009
    By yosip1115 from connecticut

"I have had this gun for about 2 weeks now, and it is literally a tack driver, I was shooting paper targets and got an idea to test if that saying about a gun being a tack driver is possible. well after 4 shots, my target was laying on the ground, with all 4 tacks completely gone.( I was shooting at 35 yards). the gun is very very accurate, but I am having problems with the BSA scope it came with. the crosshairs are slowly twisting inside the scope, and they will eventually be an x instead of a cross. before upgrading the trigger, I could not hold a 3 inch group at 30 yards, I cannot say where and who I bought the new trigger from, but after putting it on, I am stacking pellets in the bullseye from 35 yards. The stock trigger is basically garabage, but with an upgraded trigger I can assure you will be very pleased."

    Takes Time, August 4, 2008
    By JLang from UT

"I have had this gun for over a year and have been very disappointed with it's accuracy.... That was until I figured out how to dial it in. 3 main things determine how well it shoots.
    1. Cleaning the Gun
    2. The Pellet you use
    3. The Trigger pull
You need to buy a higher grade pellet for good results. I have tried at least 10 brands and the best for my gun has been the Beeman Crow-Magnum Pellets. The main point to having accuracy is the trigger pull. It has a very long trigger and I have realized that if I pull it back to the breaking point then stop to steady my self before I finish the pull it's all over the place (3 inch grouping at 15 yards). If i just do one steady fast pull on the trigger I can shoot a half inch group at 15 yards. I don't know what that is but I have easily put a couple thousands pellets through this gun and I figured that out by trial and error. This is really a sweet gun but you have to treat it right. I gave it a 4 stars because it took over a year to figure it out. But now I'm dialed in and I love it.

Gamo Viper Rifle w/ scope, March 24, 2008
    By Rellis

"I was reluctant to purchase this air rifle after reading some of the reviews; but boy am I glad I got it! Contrary to some of the comments, I find that this rifle shoots a very tight pattern. I am hitting pennies and dimes at 30 yards and the inpact destroys the coins. Well placed shots with the Raptor pellets kills; I mean KILLS varmits at 50 yards. The only small problem with the gun is its weight; a little heavy; but if it is propped, the gun shoots very true. A very favorable part of the rifle is the nice little scope that comes with it. It is very true once easily sited in. I am glad to own the gun and would highly recommend."

    Sorry guys, March 24, 2008
    By calilife from California

"I pulled this rifle out of the box and was instantly impressed, overall looks, fit and finish was great. It balanced and shouldered well -- I thought this thing is perfect.
When I started to sight it in I was vary disapointed. (after tightening the scope mount) Off a shooting bench with sand bags I could barely keep the rounds on an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper at 75 feet and thats with the PB pellets. The rifle may be fast as lightening but was also about as predictable. The only constant was that it never hit the same place twice. I ran 50 rounds through it trying different things to get it to at least pattern (better than a shot gun) without any luck. Great looking paper weight but I sent it back today anyway.
    Vary disapointed in Gamo.

Excellent Air Rifle, February 20, 2008
    By GOHOKIES from Richmond, VA

"I am very impressed with the feel and looks of the rifle. It is very easy to use and the accuracy for an air rifle was impressive as well. After reading all the reviews prior to purchasing the rifle, the negative feedback on the accuracy and the scope losing its zero setting, I did not experience either one. I would recommend that you remount the scope to fit your eye relief and tighten all set screws very securely. I did notice that most of the set screws were loose from the factory, which might be the reason on accuracy issues from prior reviews."

    Great Performance, February 10, 2008
    By JPitz

"This gun was very easy to sight in and kept it's zero until it spent 3 weeks in the back of a very bumpy pickup truck. That problem was an easy fix as the gun was set back to zero with only 4 shots. I've found the accuracy problem that I've read so much about to be in the ammo. By far the Raptor pellets have grouped tightest over and over. As far as killing pests, varmints, and birds though, the raptors need a very well placed shot to give you a quick clean kill. I think this is because of the light weight of the pellet. At 1250 fps it just rips straight through everything. The ballistic tip Predator pellets solved this problem instantly. By pushing the pellets deeper in the chamber "setting" with a ball point pen, improves accuracy and dramatically quiets the gun. Very pleased with the purchase."

Good, and accurate!, January 30, 2008
    By Mills2772 from PA

"I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a very power, and a extremly accurate air rifle. The gamo viper is comfortable when you shoot and almost no recoil. Also, when you load gun it almost takes no effort to break open the barrel to load. Although there is one down fall, the Gamo Viper sounds like a .22 cal rifle. Still I would highly recommend this gun to anyone."

    Gamo Viper, November 11, 2007
    By dbiggy from Tewksbury Mass.

"I purchased the gun in Oct and I have been trying to sight it in to no avail. The Gun will not group, Its a piece of Junk as is. Groups ran about 14" inches on a 50 ft indoor pistol range shooting off sand bags. The problem is the Scope that comes with It, I removed the scope and glued a front sight on the barrel To see if the problem was the gun or the scope. Using the jury rigged front sight and the scope mount on the rear the gun shot a consist group of about 2 inches. This is not good, but with a jury rigged sight not bad. I that with a good sight the gun will perform up to the standard of my 22 year old RWS .22 Cal air rifle.
Gamo would not do anything for me, the gun is about 33 days old. I do not have my sale receipt, but I did mail in the warrenty registration card with a copy of the sales reciept. I guess that they do not do anything with the registration forms when they get them. They told me that without a copy of the original recipt that they would fix the gun, but at my cost. Labor and Parts and shipping both ways. I going to go back to shooting the .22 RWS that is 22 years old.

    Surprised!, October 1, 2007
    By Neptugian from Oklahoma City

"I am an eternal optimist, but after reading all the reviews of this gun, I had to test it. With the gun benched and locked, 10 shots at 30 yards. They were ALL OVER THE PLACE. Only 9 hit the target! There was an 8-10 inch variance in the 9 that hit. .177 cal pelets fit LOOSELY in the barrel which may be the cause. I made sure that the scope and barrel were tight prior to the test.
I will be calling to exchange it.

Viper Air Rifle, September 10, 2007
    By bignorge from Boise, ID

"I purchased this gun on 09/09/07 and didn't have a chance to sight it in until 09/10/07. After 5 rounds I was splitting the crosshairs every shot for the next 50 rounds. Very accurate, very powerful, and easy to cock. Of course the first two rounds were not mentioned as I had just cleaned the barrel with JB non-embedding bore compound and bore free until the cleaning patches were clear. Very easy to sight in and the gun held the zero very well. Can't wait to take it gopher hunting!"

    Great gun, July 17, 2007
    By Leevw from Birmingham, AL

"I read some of the other reviews before I bought two of these. What I can tell you is these are great guns. The scope works well and has the best mount I've seen on a air gun. I've owned two other Gamo guns and both had problems stay zeroed or shot left or right all the time. Both mine and my father's has been sighted in once and stay that way the whole time. I would tell anyone if they are in the market for a great air gun this would be a great option. It kills squirls, birds and even a large white tail rabbit in the first well placed shot."

Excellent varmint control, July 10, 2007
    By CoyotePatrol from Elyria, Ohio

"After purchasing this air rifle a couple of months ago and testing several kinds of pellets, I found the Gamo PBA to be the most accurate out of this gun. It will shoot 2" groups at 50 yds. I have shot 5 woodchucks with it. Two were killed on the spot and the other three made their hole but were not seen again. I have also shot many starlings and garden pests with excellent results. So far, I am very satisfied with both the scope and rifle. the quality of the gun is great but the trigger pull takes some getting used to and could be better."
