Engineered to maximize sight in low-light conditions, these Night Hunter binoculars pierce the half-light of dawn and dusk and offer the user brilliant color and brightness. HD lens coating captures and transmits reflected light from all ambient light sources, including moon and stars for game-finding power in the darkest cover or deepest shadows. Inner 3-D light-absorbing baffles eliminate nearly all interior reflection, one of the biggest causes of dim binoculars. Contoured rubber eyecups maximize light transmission by eliminating sidelight. Military specification standards for shock, fog, and waterproof performance. With Green rubber armoring. 30-year limited warranty. Made in Germany.

"These binoculars are great to use just before sunrise and sunset. They really draw in light to help see alot better....very crisp field of view. I really enjoy not having to focus."

Great ! Only one issue..., October 17, 2007

"I got the 12x56 and really love these binoculars. Everything the other reviewers say about their brightness and focus is true. The only problem I have is that even though they are light for their size and power, they are sort of big and they do have some weight to them. That's why I'm a bit disappointed there is no tripod mounting hole on these. Also the design makes it so you can't use any 3rd party 'grabber' type tripod mounts either. For the price they could made it compatible with the Steiner tripod adapator by putting a screw hole on the front."

"Clear, bright, sharp image. Easy on eyes when viewing for any length of time. See good at night or in shadows. Adjusting each eyepiece is an aggravation but after the first time just remember what they were set at. I had been shopping for new binoculars for a couple of years and looked through all of the top of the line stuff. In the shadows or when it's getting dark, I could see more with these than any of the others. Daytime didn't see much difference."

Steiner 8x30 NightHunter XP Binoculars, November 28, 2006
By BubbaGregory from the middle of Indiana

"It all started with an anniversary trip to Costa Rica were wild is wild and colors of the wild are vivid. As we were waiting in the airport I was reading an article about quality glass binoculars. Yea right, whats wrong with my local discount store binos? Are the others really that much better for the price? I read about brightness, clarity, quality of glass used, etc. OK, all well and good, but Ill stick to my cheapy pair.

Arriving in Costa Rica and after a couple days of enjoying the resort, my wonderful wife and I set up a rainforest and river tour. The next day were off, escorted by none other than one of the Costa Rican national soccer players (taxi driver day job I guess). He sets us up with our guide who looks at my cheapy binos. He hands me his pair and produces another pair for my wife (you know, the Big Brand Name binos that cost a few months salary) and says we can use those for the day. OK, Im just well read in binos and now Ill see just how truthful that article is, or if is laden with the by-product of the bull in the field. At first look I resolved to throw away my cheapy binos.

Soon after that trip I had read about the Steiner NightHunter XP binos as well as others. I contacted Steiner with questions, asked others I knew about their binocular experience. Then I resolved to scrimp and save up for a pair of the 8x30 NightHunter XPs. I had finally save up enough and ordered them. Just one note to the readers, do your best to not order yourself some awesome new toy and have it arrive on your significant others birthday, just trust me.

I couldnt wait and went right out back and began looking around. I never noticed or rather never could tell the color of the Goldfinches beak with my cheapy binos, but with my new NightHunter XPs I can clearly see that it is orange. Wow! I could also see the individual feathers!! These are really awesome. Bright clear images and the crispness of the images are what really intrigues me. I keep looking and looking totally amazed at what I saw.

One reason I had decided on the NightHunter XP model was the promise of really good light gathering and transmission through the binoculars to produce bright, clear, crisp, images in low light conditions. After all I am a hunter and this was the main purpose to upgrade my binoculars. Low light? I let the sun go all the way down, then stepped outside and looked into the neighbors yard three houses down. This happens to be the longest length I can look in any direction. Trying not to look like a peeping tom, I could clearly see the grain of the bark on the trees and the grass was not a blended green plane, but individual blades. Yes, the picture was not as bright as day, but the crispness of the images was still there and it appeared lighter other there when viewed through the binoculars than when just looking over there with the naked eye.

Another reason the NightHunter XP model interested me was the Sports-Auto-Focus. You adjust the binoculars to focus on an object at least 20 yards away and the binoculars, using the way the eyes focus, are focused from 20 yards to infinity. This feature is truly amazing. It works great and really makes using these binoculars enjoyable. It is also a very cool trick to show your buddies. You just pick up the binoculars and look around, no adjusting to look at virtually any length. They will be truly amazed. I found that if the binoculars are initially focused at a closer distance (20-30 yards), very slight adjustments made objects crisper when the objects viewed were very far, say 700-900 yards away. I was looking across a lake at a sign and the lettering. Initial re-focusing (barely tweaking really) of the binoculars at a father distance (50-75 yards) solved that issue. It is really something to pick up a pair of binoculars, set for your eyes, and never having to adjust focus. This feature really makes the binoculars spectacular to me.

After using my new toy almost constantly when given the chance, I could not wait to take them to the woods and on a hunting trip. The first hunting season that opens in Indiana, at least the first real hunting season as far as Im concerned, is squirrel season. Im out at daylight and even though the woods was still fairly dark, I could see up in the trees and around the woods floor with such clarity it was literally exciting. I had enjoyed my outing and bagged my first squirrel of the season and as time was limited was on my way out of the woods along a fire trail when I got that feeling something was watching me. I caught a slight motion to my right. Lifting my NightHunters up to view the area I saw a squirrel upside down looking back at me on the side of a tree. I brought my rifle up and could not find that little buger with my scope. Lifting the NightHunters back up and reviewing the area showed that the little guy turned around and repositioned on me. I could then make out the slightly hidden form in my scope and at the bark of my .22, the squirrel fell to the ground. I was thinking the NightHunters just started paying off with the first dinner ingredient. I would not have seen that squirrel without them.

If you are in the game for a new pair of binoculars, you should truly consider the 8x30 NightHunter XP model from Steiner. Oh, one other thing, my NightHunters were just as good as the other high-end binoculars I tried in Costa Rica, but at half the price. Thanks, Cabelas, for carrying such great gear and having such great service.

Steiner Night Hunter XP Binoculars, November 20, 2006

"These binoculars are a must for any hunter that hunts till dark and needs to focus on images right under your stand or images 800 yards away. The clarity in the lens, the light the lens collect in low light situations and the auto focus (set the binoculars to your eyes before you go to the stand and you can see game in focus from right underneath you to long distances without having to adjust anything) give the hunter unbeleivable advantages over other hunters."

"Outstanding optics, you will see movement and color you would miss without them. They get a little heavy if you are stand hunting, but still worth the effort. I have the Preditor 8X and the Night hunter in 8X as well, and the Night Hunter wins hands down. Excellent quality and product overall !!!"
