Good Clarity...OK Design,September 13, 2009
By DSBfrom Nevada
"I have used my 10X42 Merlins for three seasons before writing this review. For entry level glasses, you can't beat the price for the clarity. The only gripe I have with these, is the covers for the objective lenses. They attach using a snap in design, that just doesn't hold up to extensive use. Even without removing and replacing them, the click in portion on the bino housing itself has broken on both of my covers, and one of the cover connections is now worn through. The Steiner warranty does not cover parts that are "worn out" due to standard use, and a replacement set is $42. Good glass, but was looking for a little better construction, or a better (beefier) design for extensive use."

Steiner Merlin's,August 3, 2009
By DocButcherfrom Collierville, TN
"These are top quality binoculars; lightweight, easy to focus, comfortable, and have the ability to focus at very close objects. I have one other pair of Steiner binos, 10x50, Bighorns, which are also excellent, but these provide the same quality optic in a far smaller package. They come with a first class case, lacking only the neck strap, which I will have to order ASAP. For the money they are truly a worthwhile purchase for anyone who requires a lightweight, first class optic."

Steiner Merlins,February 20, 2009

"Just bought these for huntin and they are excellent. Very clear optics. They are alittle heavier then others but worth it for me due to the quality of optics, they also focus fast. Alittle expensive but you get what you pay for."

Mediocre at best,December 10, 2008
By bighornsheephunter
"I purchased a pair of Merlin Steiner 10*42 binoculars and I wanted to give consumers fair warning about them. The only time that I use my binoculars is during hunting season and in the three hunting seasons that I have had them I have had to return a pair and have had numerous of there parts simply fall off as I was walking through open terrain. After having them 2 seasons the glass was so scratched up that I had to return them and the warranty is not the 30 years as I thought, they said that the glass was scratched from my "carelessness". I'll take part of the blame but 2 hunting seasons and they are so scratched that I cannot see through them? Come on I won't take all of the blame as I am very responsible for my optics. That cost me an extra $150 to have them repaired. And the eye pieces are so poorly assembled on the optics they both just fell off. That is another $42 plus shipping that I am into these binoculars I am not going to mention the rest that went wrong, but I will say this; for the money a consumer is better off buying a pair of Leupold's for better or same quality and a way better warranty."

Best Binoculars I've owned.,August 5, 2008
By CircleLfrom Virginia
"I recently bought a set of Steiner Binoculars from Cabelas. They are by far the best glasses I have ever used. The price was pretty good for the quality of the product. Of course I would have liked to have spent less but given the quality of the binoculars I feel like I got an excellent value. The service from Cabelas was superior as always. Thanks for the opportunity to share this review with fellow hunters. Enjoy the product. gl"

Best Binoculars I ever had,March 16, 2008
By JChancefrom Texas
"This is the first set of "expensive" binoculars I have ever bought. And yes you can tell the difference between the Melin 10x50's and the $100 Bushnell's/ Whatever. They have amazing clarity and detail at 200 yards. Low light conditions are awesome. When I am sitting in my deer stand at daybreak and you can barely see an outline, you can look through these binoculars and count points. I don't know how the Zeiss or Leicas could be much better than these for the money. It helped me judge a 160 inch 13 point at daybreak that I was able to shoot as soon as legal shooting hours came around. Buy these you won't be sorry."

Husbands Christmas Present,January 7, 2008
By drakettefrom Willis, Texas
"My husband is an avid bird watcher and has looked & looked for a good set of birding binocs. Being the dedicated wife, I did alot of research and found that the Steiner's were not only high quality but were as close focus as you could get (around 5-6 ft). My husband was very excited and very impressed. Cabela's was very prompt - informative - just wish they had a store closer to our home. Will not hesitate to order anything online from them."

WOW!,May 8, 2007
By Gjohnsonfrom Ex hunting guide, Oregon
"Even though I've hunted all my life, this is the first pair of "real" binoculars I've ever owned and I must say it is a wonderful experience. I've never seen such clarity. It's as if I just walked up closer to everything - it's that clear. And the light gathering ability of these glasses allows you to see very clearly when it's so dark that you can't see details at all with your own eyes. I hunt in thick brush here in western Oregon and the 7x50's are perfect for focusing through brushy patches to see what's on the other side. This may sound like a small detail but when you're tryng to sneak up on a buck that is bedded down in a tangle, you really can use this feature to see through the tangled trees quite well. The build quality of these glasses is also extremely good. Top quality all around."

Steiner 8 x 50 Merlin Binoculars,January 11, 2007
By ssanglefrom New Jersey
"Slightly on the heavy side but the quality of vision is far worth it. Not for the high mountain backpacker because of the weight but outstanding depth of vision in low light areas are wide panoramic field of view. Top quality optics!!!"

Excellent,November 9, 2006
By Benjaminfrom Pennsylvania
"I have the 10x42 and they are very clear and work really well in low light. I also use them for deer spotting. They are a little heavy for hunting. Very Rarely do they ever fog up. I haven't found a pair of binoculars that won't fog up without spending over $1,500. They are an excellent value!!! Even when they do fog up it goes away quickly. I highly recomend them!"
