Comfortable and Convenient,October 22, 2009
By SWFLCamperfrom Florida
"Bought these to increase floor area in 9x12 tent for family of four. Two sets fit with about 3'x9' left to spare in the middle. I would give this the Cam-O-Cot Bunk Beds a 5 star rating but the discs used to insert and lock the support poles can be tricky to master. They are a super tight fit on first use, and I struggled with several of them to unlock and remove. The second use was easier and I was more familiar with the set-up. Takes about 5 minutes per bed to set up with by yourself. (10 minutes per bunk set)
Carry cases are sturdy and keep components organized within. Each bunk has two separate bags to make transporting easier. I would have liked to see three precut, and spaced holes in the bunks to add a cot side organizer. It comes with velcro strips pre-sewn into the cot to accomodate a custom side organizer, but no custom Cam-O-Cot side organizers are offered at Cabelas at this time. However, what did work for me was the Cabela's Cot-Side Nightstand™. It has two elastic loops at each end that you can attach to the vertical end poles of the Cot, and let it hang down. Worked great.
My wife and two boys love them. Very Comfortable."

A Good Value!,September 11, 2009
By IHuntNorCalfrom Northern California
"I just got these and assembled them in my living room.
They seem very solid and well-constructed. The only downside is that they take a while to put together (as compared to other cots).
Even so, they are a great deal--and a great idea--especially on sale.
I can't wait to use them in the field. I would have given 4.5 stars if I could."

PA Camper,September 2, 2009

"These cots are great. Picked them up last week on sale and couldn't be happier. Don't know what the fuss is about putting them up or taking them down. Took me around 10 min. each way by myself. Cams are a bit tight, but should loosen. Note, however, that the direction etched on the side telling which way to turn them to tighten / lock was wrong on most of mine (i.e. showed to twist clockwise, but had to twist counter clockwise). Maybe this is why some are having trouble taking them apart....they think they are unlocked and really aren't. Great product. My kids luv 'em, and I'm sure I'm gonna get alot of use out of them (kids and adults). Heavy duty and H-E-A-V-Y, but OK for my purposes."

Good idea! Needs some work.,August 13, 2009
By AZchuckfrom AZ
"First, let me say that once together, my two little girls absolutely loved these bunks. There is more than enough room for them and their stuffed animals. It is sturdy and heavy for a reason (stability) and I felt safe with them climbing up top. It also let me buy a smaller tent because it saved floor space.
But, there were a couple of issues that bugged me enough to return the bunk.
1. One of the top stacking end rails had a leg that didn't fit inside of the bottom rail. I had to use a hammer to "resize" it to make it fit. But it still got stuck in the bottom rail pretty good.
2. The side poles don't lock together. If you insert the pole in the canvas sleeve and need to pull it back an inch or two, the poles come apart and you may not notice it because it's inside of the sleeve. I used gaffers tape on the poles just so I know that they stayed together and to make it easier to take them out of the sleeve when breaking camp. (There is also no support for the middle of the poles like on a cot. This does create more sagging with adults on the bunk.)
3. The disks need some force to go together and lock but were more difficult to disassemble without some pounding. Maybe in time, this will loosen up??
It took my wife and I, 10 to 15 minutes to disassemble the bunks and put it in the case. That may not seem bad but if you compare that to a folding cot that one person can nearly throw together in a few seconds, it does make a difference. It also makes a difference when you are breaking camp and don't want to waste energy fighting with rails and disks.
All-in-all, YMMV, and I struggled with returning it because my girls loved them so much. But with a bad back, it wasn't worth the extra hassle to keep them.
If they update how this assemble/disassembles, I would definitely try another one but for now, cots will suffice."

GREAT COTS!,August 6, 2009
By SirHerc
"I got these a few weeks ago. I have a wall tent that is set up on a platform by the river. I wanted something that was sturdy and would take dampness well. I am a big guy and have buckled many a brans new cot with a large weight rating in my first night useing them. These cots though, they are the real deal! They are portable but only to a point. At 64lbs. for the set I would not want to carry them far. However, if used in ant situation where one is planning an extended stay at a base camp or long term site and you can afford the difficulty of dealing with such heavy cots these puppies are it! They are sturdy as can be. I slept on mine in both the top and bottom bunks and was comfortable and felt secure that they would hold me. Also, a big plus is that these guys make these beds for the military too! So replacement parts like cams, mats and rails are easy to get! BUY THESE COTS YOU WONT REGRET IT! Cabelas is very smart to carry such an awesome product!"

One Problem,July 27, 2009
By 1015from Fitchburg MA
"My boys love the cot bunk. The one problem has been in the take down. The wheel braket does not come off the pipe very well. We had to use a rubber mallet to knock it off. If it wasn't for that it would get 5 stars."

Great, but might not be for you,July 22, 2009
By slateberryfrom Waltham, MA
"This is the only bunk cot system I'm aware of so, if you must bunk, it's a no-brainer to get these. If you are not bunking, I would shop around and try out other models on the floor at cabela's before getting these because of weight and speed of assembly issues.
Size: I'd be wary of ordering the xl size. We ordered 2 larges and they barely fit in our coleman exponent x8 tent, which has a 10x15 footprint and two rooms. There is no way an xl would fit reasonbly into our tent. just too long.
Material and assembly: the steel construction is wonderfully solid, and the design copes with slopes and uneven floors fairly well. but it is heavy, and while assembly is optimized for speed and ease, it still takes some time to get them togehter, and to knock them down and put them away on the other end. I'd say after practice, for us it took two people did 2 sets (4 cots) in 20 minutes. It's a chunk of time. I've seen telescoping aluminium cots (not bunkable, though) at Cabela's that were pretty comfortable, plus lighter and faster to assemble to boot.
Comfort: wonderful, and even better with a thermarest stuck on top."

Cam-O-Cot Bunk Beds,July 14, 2009
By seriouscamperfrom Long Island, NY
"This is a wonderful item to have when camping and you find your tent getting crowded with a second dog and your child wants to start bringing a friend along. The bunk beds are sturdy, take up much less room than two cots or sleeping bags, and are easy to assemble and disassemble. The bunks pack easily into the supplied carrying cases. We were very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone -- especially if they find they need the space!"

solid, but cumbersome and heavy,July 14, 2009
By hntfishcmperfrom colorado
"Great solid product once up and put together. They are very heavy and combersome to put together and take down. The discs fit very snug onto the side poles, making it difficult to assemble and disassemble; my wife refuses to put them together and take apart because of this. Once up, the bunks are solid and won't rock/wiggle like the other cots on the market. They can be used seperately or as a bunk. Seperately, they stand maybe a little over foot high. If you need these to save some floor space and don't need to travel light, and are okay with what seems like too long of time to put these things up and take down, they'll work great for you. I'm not sure if I would have bought them if I knew how heavy/cumbersome they where to handle, assemble, and disassemble. I gave it 4 stars due to the sturdiness of the product; definitely above average."

Cot bunks are wonderful!,July 8, 2009
By campinfamilyof8from clearfield county pa (our cabin)
"We have a cabin in the mts. We built it ourselves and taking a loooong time to get it finished, we had only 2 reg cots to take up and need to save as much space as possible due to large family and small area. We got these for my spouse for fathers day and he loved them and after sleeping on them I do also! They were fairly easy to put together as long as you dont put the wrong tube inside of the other lol my mistake took about 1/2 hr just to undo but minus that about 15 mins to put both bunks fully together. They are sturdy and def worth the money. My 265 s/o even went on top bunk and layed down so def can hold the weight as well. They save so much room I want to get another set so we dont have to use the other 2. Great buy!"

bunk bed for converted van,July 8, 2009
By Vancampermanfrom Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
"I recently converted a van into a camper. I have a full queen size bed in the far back for me and the Mrs. We had our two little guys sleeping on a 3 inch thick foam mattress on the floor between the rear bed and the front seats when pushed all the way forward. This was too hard to keep them from rolling onto each other or look out! if one wet the bed at night. I also had to be very careful not to step on 'em in the dark when entering or exiting the van. So, I got this cam-o-cot bunk bed. I use two of the cross poles instead of the three it comes with and I joined them with a 2" piece of PVC tube that I cut to size. I cut a slit into the canvas to get the size right and simply fold the excess over. Now the bed fits perfectly across the van . I place it right behind the front seats and push them forward all the way. There is plenty of head room for both kids aged 6 and 8 years. Now there is enough room to even fit a portable toilet in between their cots and my raised platform queen bed. No more stepping on them or late night exits to the outhouse. They love the bed. I did find that misture did collect on the canvas from condensation after sleeping on it. I simply put down a foam sleeping pad and then put their sleeping bags on top of it with no further moisture problems. They are pretty easy to take down and put up. Nice and lightweight which makes taking them in and out of the van for cleaning very easy between nights. They pack up neatly into two provided bags for transport and storage. I am very happy with the purchase. I tried them out with the full three cross poles installed and the full length canvas. I fit with no problem. I am 6'6" and 260lbs. It supported me on the top bunk and my wife on the bottom bunk quite sturdily. I tested it this way before letting my little guys on it. I recommend this product to anyone looking to maximize space in a tent or converted van like mine."

Bunks in a TENT?,July 6, 2009
By CampingInNCfrom Hendersonville, NC
"Thats right...bunks in a tent. I have been looking at these bunks for years, even before Cabela's started selling them. Loved the idea and how it would save space. This past weekend we had the chance to use ours.
They come in individual carring cases that are nice and durable. The parts pack up nicely in their respective places which allow for the cots to pack easy in your car...they are a bit heavy.
They went together without to much trouble. I had test fitted them prior to our trip which made it easier for me at the campground. Unlike a traditional cot they come in many pieces and the entire cot has to be put together. No big deal if you're not in hurry and like putting things together!
I have a 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter who loved the idea of bunks. My son slept on the bottom while my daugher slept ontop. As usual baby girl got cold so 6'5", 265 Dad went up top while baby girl snuggled with mom. I'm sure my son was a bit nervous but never said anything. The cot was a bit narrow for me but they were not built for Sherk either. I slept OK and there was no issues with strength.
Overall, the cots did the job for our 3 day trip. They are a great space saver and get you off the ground. A bit of assemble is required but the cool factor overrides that. It added to the great family fun we had."

Rest Easy,July 1, 2009
By Flyroderfrom Maine
"I got this cot bunk to have more floor space in my Cabela's Big Horn III tent, it's just right. Setup was about 15 min the 1st time (it can be done in less than 10 now). I found that the tubes that go into the round ends go in alot easier after I just lightly filed the end. The paint seem to leave a raised bump at the end.( not alot just remove the paint). Also I think we will come up with a better strap to hold the two cots together.
Straight Line & Quick Release!"

Great bunk cots,June 30, 2009
By DANCBfrom Black Hawk, CO
"We purchased these cots to save on space in a 5th wheel. We have 3 kids and wanted the kids to stay off of the floor when sleeping. My 11 year old son helps me set up and break down the cots. They are fairly heavy duty and seem study enough. We were looking at the foldable Chairs into beds but whould have spent an extra $50 for two chairs and the space in the 5th wheel would have been very crowded even with the beds folded into chairs. When the cots are broken down, we put them under a bed.
If I need one cot, I can use one of the two cots. They come in two carrying bags, one cot for each bed."
