Because of its downlike, ultracompressible characteristics, the PrimaLoft® Sport insulation used in our Backpacker Sleeping Bags provides the warmth needed for year-round camping, yet it is lightweight and compressible and can easily be carried in your pack with plenty of room to spare for other necessary gear. In fact, PrimaLoft is up to 42% more compressible than other synthetic insulations and it retains its insulating properties even when wet. The shell is constructed of a tough but compressible layer of lightweight 40-denier ripstop nylon, lined with a soft layer of nylon taffeta. Offset layer construction prevents cold spots from forming at the seams. A full-length draft tube, collar tube and cinchable hood seal in warmth. Bag also includes a heavy-duty, 3/4-length, No. 8 YKK® zipper with anti-snag technology, a zippered valuables pocket and a compact compression stuff sack.

Does not live up to temperature rating, November 15, 2009
    By HoosierDave from Columbus, IN

"I am a huge fan of Cabelas and their products. I recently purchased the standard XPG +15 bag for fall backpacking, anticipating nightly lows on the order of 20 to 40 degrees. I tried out the bag this past weekend with temperatures dropping into the 35 to 40 degree range and was surprised that I was awakened twice during the night due to the cold. Based on the bag's rating, I did not expect to have to resort to layering until the temperature at least dropped below 30. The stuff sack and bag design are very good but I'm rating this bag poorly and exchanging it because its performance seems shaky at twenty degrees above its temperature rating."

    By f350jeep from Midland Mi.

"Well after a great day of hunting I slept in the back of the truck in this bag on a foam cusion in about 20 degree weather, with 68 % humidity and was comfortable, got about 11 hours of sleep that night. I am 6'3" and weigh approx 290 lbs and the bag has plenty of room even for close quarter chanllenged, zipper seems durable very happy with purchase and look forward to using more in the future."

Great sleeping bag, October 20, 2009
    By tlh9749 from Ramona, California

"I used my new sleeping bag for the first time last weekend. It worked great, very roomy, I liked the hood part, kept me warm without feeling stuffy. I intend to use it in So. Calif. desert areas so not sure it would be as warm in really cold areas. Plan to add thermal sleep wear if the temp gets really cold. Stuffs down well, important to me as I use mine for horse camping."

not fully tested, October 12, 2009
    By hobbydog from Minnesota

"I bought this bag for lightweight BWCA trips including fishing opener which can be quite cold. I haven't had a chance to use it myself but my 10 year old son used this weekend at the webelos scout campout. It was 25 degrees and windy all day. I used my big heavy standard tried and trusted bag while my son got the baclpacker. He slept sound all night and said he was toasty warm. The bag is rated for zero but I never trust the rating system. The bag stuffs easily. I thought it took a bit to loft up. Time will tell if it maintains the loft."

    Dress Warm, September 30, 2009
    By JBG from WI

"I just returned from an Elk hunt in Colorado. The bag was lite weight and had lots of room. I am 6' 4" and weigh about 220lbs. The bag was rated at zero degrees and I was cold every night for 6 days. Very disappointed. My hunting buddy was sleeping soundly in his down bag and I was just barley able to keep warm. I would return this bag if possible. The only way I could keep warm was to wear long underware and my hunting jacket. Temp at night was around 20 degrees."

Great Sleeping Bag, September 23, 2009
    By DavidLordOfTheTurkeys from Central Wisconsin

"I used this sleeping bag while hunting in the upper portions of the Colorado Rockies. Even with the cold nighttime temperatures and just a light pup tent, I didn't feel the cold. The bag was comfortable and warm. A great buy."

    By gshorthair from Florence, SC

"I just the bag on a trip over the weekend. I really enjoyed the weight of the bag and the sized it compressed to but I am unsure of the cold weather rateing. But used with a pad and insert I am sure I would be fine when the temp drops to the freezeing mark."

Great Sleeping bag, March 23, 2009
    By nk11

"I was able to use the XPG Backpacker Sleeping zero degree bag during a week long trip in the great smokey mountains national park. The bag was excellent, extremely light in my pack, it fit in my bags sleeping bag pocket and was extremely warm. The temperature dipped into the 30s and I was still sweating in my bag. The only knock I can give the bag is the zipper liked to get stuck towards the top, and was sometimes a struggle to get fully zipped. Overall, I absolutely love the bag and can't wait to use it again."

Light weight bag for DIY, March 3, 2009
By ElkObsession from Arkansas City, Ks

"This sleeping bag is warm and light weight. It compresses down nice and is easy to get in and out of. The only knock I have on it is the compression bag it somes in. It is a tight fit to get the sleeping bag back into the compression bag. It is nearly impossible to get a bivy/sleeping bag system into the suplied compression bag. But the sleeping bag itself is idealy suited for back pack use."

XPG +15 Backpacker Sleeping Bag, January 26, 2009
    By FLcamper96 from Florida

"First the disclaimers: I am a non-expert camping person who enjoys camping with my boy scout son on the weekends. We camp about 6 times a year and it never really gets cold here in FL where we camp. I purchased the XPG +15 Backpacker Sleeping Bag because I received a Cabelas gift card for Christmas and I needed a new sleeping bag because the existing bag I had was bulky and hot! The Cabelas bag is amazingly light and when stuffed in the sack is incredibly compact. My son and I went camping in January and I was able to try the new bag. I admit that Floridians are wimps when it comes to cold, but it got into the low 40s at night and I was cold! I started the evening without the bag zipped up, by 1 AM I had the bag zipped all the way up, by 2 AM I had the hood around my head, by 3 AM I had the hood pulled tight around my face. I never did warm up. By 4 AM I gave up and got out of the bag, put a coat on, and got back in the bag. On one hand, this is not a good commentary on the bag. On the other hand, it rarely gets into the low 40s here so this bag should work just perfect in the spring, fall, and summer, and on those normal winter nights when it is warmer. Believe me, camping in FL is more about being too hot rather than too cold. I gave the bag 4 stars because it is light, compact and the bag is constructed well and the zippers work well in the dark, but I'll have to remember to take along an extra blanket if it gets below 45 degrees! I have absolutely NO IDEA how they came up with +15 degrees for this bag. You couldn't pay me enough to use this bag in 15 degree weather. Maybe some of you can sleep when you are shivering, but not me. If you live in Minnesota, you can skip this one, otherwise it is a nice light compact bag for moderate weather camping."

    A backpacker's friend, but not 15F rated, September 17, 2008
    By Huntaria from Kentucky

"Just returned from a goat hunt in SE Alaska where I carried this bag afield. It is light and roomy, but I'm glad I didn't encounter any 15F nights. It is perfectly satisfactory to near freezing as long as one is wearing long underwear and fleece outerwear. I'm not sure I could have been comfortable at temperatures substantially less."

Cabela's XPG Backpacker Sleeping Bag, August 12, 2008
    By Lovingtheoutdoors from Logan, Ut

"I purchased three of these sleeping bags. Each of them is rated for zero degrees. Two of the bags are long length and one of them is regular length. Twice I have slept in mine in 5 degree weather with snow on the ground when my breath was freezing on the side of the tent. In this condition, I was sleeping with a pair of cotton thermal bottoms and a cotton long sleeve tee shirt with my socks on. I was a little cold but far from freezing. Recently my two sons and I backpacked into Ashley National Forest at 10,000 feet and each of us slept in one of these sleeping bags. I believe the lowest temp was around 35 degrees. I was too hot. I had my bag unzipped most the time during the night. My boys said they slept warm. During this trip, we squeezed three adults and two children into a four man tent. Our breath was condensing on the inside of the tent and the exterior of our sleeping bags were damp from the condensation. Due to the extensive rain we experienced, it was not possible to air out the tent and sleeping gear, so the moisture accumulated night after night. I stayed dry in my sleeping bag and was still very hot. They are compact and fit into the sleeping bag compartment of backpacks. They dry out rapidly. They are light for the the warmth they provide. I wouldn't want to use it in weather much colder than 5 degrees, but it is certainly adequate for anything above that temperature in my experience. The bags don't have a lot of loft to them, and I am getting older and like a little comfort so I had a self inflating backpacker's pad underneath the bag. It was the perfect bag for this middle class camper. My wife says she wants to get in on our next backpack trip and I recommended she get the woman's version of the XPG Backpacker Sleeping Bag."

    By SoccerrefRick from Shawnee,OK

"I took this out of the box and it was lighter than I thought! Then I striped down to my shorts, laid out thye bag on the bed in the house and climbed in. I zipped her up and in about 2 mins I had to get out for sweating. This bag will sure do zero out there. Most times I see me in it unzipped for cool air or layin on top. Great bag."

Cabela's XPG Backpacker sleeping Bag, January 31, 2008
    By cherylb from California

"We purchased this sleeping bag for our son as a Christmas gift. He is 6'4" and weighs 250lbs. All our other sleeping bags were too short and cramped to be comfortable for him.

As a college student he ofter travels and spends the night sleeping in a bag, however we wanted one that would be warm and light enough to backpack. We were all pleased with not only the lenth but the extra width of this bag. My son gave it a try on his bed and found it xtremely comfortable until it became to warm to continue sleeping in.

We would recommend this for folks who need the extra width and length in a sleeping bag.

    not good, December 6, 2007
    By coldkamper

"I bought the long model rated down to 0 degrees because I tend to get cold at night even though the tempatures aren't that cold. I left the bag open for several days in a tent trailer so it would have plenty of loft. The temps at night were right around 32 degrees and I was very cold even with long underwear. With the bag rated at 0 degrees I should have been warm. Also I had nothing but trouble with the zipper."

    Backpackers Dream, November 22, 2007
    By Helga from Atlanta, GA

"I purchased this bag as I did not have the $$$ to spend 1K on a down bag, and I already had an excellent waterproof-breathable bivy sack. I did a LOT of research on the internet regarding insulating technologies, and Primaloft is bar none the best next step back from natural Down. Although slightly heavier, it keeps a greater amount of it's insulating properties when wet. You may probably never need it, but if you're fully drenched (say a fall through the ice???) and need to warm up quick in the outback Primaloft is it. Even if not, it's still a great choice - with the added assurance. This bag is very light for a 0 degree sleeping bag and HIGHLY compressible. When I received mine there was a "is this it?" feeling - only turns out in a good way as it is highly compressible and of course I need to stuff it in my backpack. Not only that, but that also makes it a roomier bag. I tested it up in Michigan on the coldest night of winter '06 and it kept me comfortably warm in the snowstorm. Cheeks got a little cold, but that's to be expected and other than that I felt like I was inside under the covers. This would be my only choice short of a high quality down bag. This is an unsolicited review and I have no affiliation with Cabelas (<=great bag, btw!)."
