Leupold's RX series laser rangefinders are top performers. Some of the latest technology introduced in RX series models include 13 selectable reticles, thermometer, inclinometer fold-down rubber eyecups, and accuracy within ±1 yard. The RX-III has True Ballistic Range™(TBR™). This provides a firearm or bow shooter with the correct range when shooting up or down hills. A sophisticated ballistics algorithm is applied to give the corrected, accurate value. This makes uphill and downhill shot placement much more precise. Advanced software, linked to ballistic groupings within the system, allows shooters to utilize TBR in conjunction with their reticle to more precisely determine point of aim when shooting up or down hill. Digital Instrument Panel™ processes signal information digitally in an easy-to-read format. The RX-III's 8x28mm multicoated monocular is fully waterproof and measures ranges from 6 to 1,200 yards with TBR technology. An illuminated Digital Instrument Panel aids viewing in low light. Compact size makes for easy carry and use in the field.

Good/Great Product,July 28, 2009
By Newtexican64
"A very well built product that calculates TBR instantly. The advanced funtions are complicated to use, but the RX-III is the rangefinder I have been looking for. Not only does it calculate TBR well past 800 yards and locks on most every object instantly, it is a quick 8 power monocular."

RX-III LET DOWN,July 3, 2009
By WYODONAHUEfrom THERMOPOLIS WYOMING
"This product is best described as JUNK, That is very hard to say since I am a Leupold fan. I own 5 vx-III scopes and gold ring binos. I can not belief Leupold would market this product as a 1200 yd rangefinder. I used mine strictly for hunting in the plains & mountains of Wyoming. It will range Antelope & Deer out to 450 yards max and usually takes several attempts. Elk is a bit better, 500 to 550 yards. It does much better on buildings but I don't hunt buildings. The rangefinder read out is hard to read in low light (day break) conditions. Setting up the different functions it is not user friendly. My hunting partner purchased one at the same time and it functions just as poorly when compared side by side."

Leupold RX-III Rangefinder,June 30, 2009
By mstar5from Colorado
"I was disappointed to find that, in most cases, the rangefinder could not read past 600 yards. The other day I finally got a "hit" at 749 yards, & confirmed it again with a hit at 750 yards. I couldn't believe a company that claims a 1200 yard capability could be so far off. Almost false advertising. If you can live with a rangefinder that can do 600 yards, & has the ability to assist with uphill & downhill shooting, then I guess you would be OK with this one. But if you really want long range readings, probably look elsewhere."

Don't listen to everyone...,June 12, 2009
By Markamarofrom Ontario, Canada
"I don't know if mine is a fluke, but mine has no problem picking up anything... I can range buildings out to 1168m and consistently... seems to work great. Illumination is cheasy, but everything works fine... learning curve is 15mins if you read the manual... worth the money, hope it lasts..."

Leupold RX-III Rangefinder,May 4, 2009
By jasonxxxxxxxfrom Nebraska
"The name says it all..Leupold!! I used the RX-II on a hunt in New Zealand and it helped me take a Silver Medal Red Stag with one shot at 489yd..uphill. The rangefinding ability along with the TBR option made it all possible. The guide was so impressed with the shot he wouldn't let me leave until I agreed to leave that great Leupold rangefinder with him!! I was so impressed with it I was curious to try out the RX-III..so far it has accounted for many coyotes and prarie dogs..I'm sure it will help me down my Caribou when I head out on my trip to Alaska in Aug. Thanks Cabela's for carrying this must have field tool....Never guess again on distance to target!!"

Failed,April 8, 2009
By QuiverSafarisfrom Olympic Peninsula, WA
"I owned two of these units, both worked fine for a short time. The first unit failed after three months, on the first day of a ten day bow hunt for bear and Bison. The second unit failed after a few weeks. In both cases the unit would turn on but not be able to range, just blink, and their was no way to reset the unit's computer without sending it back to the factory. I have changed to bushnell, working fine for over a year now."

RX-III Rangefinder,September 29, 2008
By CooperM22from Colorado Springs, CO
"I am a loyal Leupold customer, own two Mark IV's and a VX-III LR but the RX-III Rangefinder is simply put ... JUNK. It ranges well to about 300 yards depending on the composition and size of the target. I have ranged some large rock faces out to 487 yards but have never gotten a range beyond that. I have tried to range a number of large buildings with no success. All the features that are offered are a simple sales gimmick. Yeah, they work but if this thing won't consistently range a target beyond 300 yards all those features are useless. I had an opportunity to use a Leica Rangemaster 1200 and it worked perfectly. I'm keeping my scopes and getting rid of the RX-III. I would highly recommend the Leica Rangemaster 1200, there's no setup just push the button once to acquire the target and push the button a second time to range and it's fast."

Excellent !!!!,March 14, 2008
By Sixslingerfrom Phoenix, Arizona
"I've had my RX-III for almost a year, and I love it. It does take some getting used to ( there are a wide variety of options ), but once you get the hang of it , it works perfectly. You have to make sure you are on the proper settings, and out past 600 yds. you need to be on a tri-pod. Having done that, I have consistantly ranged up to 1034 yds. on an 90 degree Arizona day with a 10 - 15 mph wind kicking dust. This was done on a light colored building. I also ranged 2 flags flying over a school, an Arizona and a U.S. flag, the Arizona darkish, the U.S lightish, both flapping in the same breeze, at 680 yds. My only complaint is the learning curve is rather large and all the TBR settings seem to be based on a 200 yds. zero, but I can deal with that, I think I'll keep it."

RX-III Rangefinder,February 2, 2008
By JasonIRLfrom Ireland
"I bought the RX-III for deer hunting,i was very impressed with how clear the optics are even when its starting to get dark, but the illuminated digital instrument panel kind of impairs your vison a little i think its a bit too bright , i like its compact size it fits right into my coat pocket and its very light too i like this because when your deer stalking and walking alot you don`t want anything too big and heavy, i found it a little hard to use at first but once you read the manuel once or twice its not that bad, my father hates anything electronic & technical and even he can set it up and use it with ease, i would recommend this product but make sure and read the manuel very carefully before using it other wish your totaly lost"

Terrible Purchase,January 20, 2008
By JDSbowhunterfrom Fairbanks, Alaska
"I love Leupold optics and own their riflescopes, binoculars, and even a gold ring spotting scope. I don't think I could be more disappointed in the RX-III rangefinder that I bought. It's too unnecessarily complicated, and the optics are mediocre at best. It's difficult to range objects that are more than 400 yards away, and the settings take forever to set. The TBR feature is very interesting, but the other design problems with the RX negate the usefulness of the TBR. I certainly won't buy another RX unless Leupold improves the ergonomics and the ranging ability of them."

Basically A Swing And A Miss...,November 28, 2007
By dave300wbyfrom San Rafael, Ca.
"You might want to think twice before considering buying this product. Like most of us, I'm fairly brand-loyal and in fact, all my rifles have Leupold scopes on them. Their rangefinders are another matter. The TBR and Holdover options are usefull and wonderful features, and are what swayed me into buying this rangefinder. I love these features; but the unit's weak reception ability compromises them to the point of being nearly useless. The point being: those great features only work when the rangefinder processes the information it rarely has the ability to recieve. 3 out of 10 attempts ended in failure to read anything around 450+ yards. Anything at 4oo yards was slightly better and if anything in the 500 yard range showed up on the screen (after using every trick in the book, multiple times), it would be cause for a major celebration. This is pretty absmal performance for a rangefinder that claims to have a range of 1200 yards. The optics are simply a joke; a monocular can't be all that hard to make so that it's clear and bright or in focus. The choice of a black yardage numbers and reticle was unfortunate because they're very hard to see in overcast light or dusky conditions. I hate to be disparaging towards a company I endose and usually swear by. Instead of swearing by this rangefinder, I nearly swore at it because of it's shortcomings. Hint: Save up an extra $200 and buy the Leica 1200. You'll be glad you did."

Difficult to use,November 8, 2007
By roosa1660from Lakewood, CO
"I have found this RX-III difficult to understand and extremely difficult program it's "rotary menu". A "rotary menu" is apparently nothing like a drop-down menu, with which we are all familar. It makes absolutely no sense to me, and the booklet is a joke, only vague directions. I spent over a half hour on the phone today to program the True Ballistic Range feature, and finally got it. The woman assured me that it would then stay in the correct mode. Guess what? Tonight, it somehow reverted to the Bow setting by itself! It took me about 20 minutes to reprogram it for my preferred rifle setting. This had better become much more user friendly before next year's elk season.
The low light feature is poor, the washed blue light is not very helpful. The factory battery was only at 2/3 power out of the box. There is no indication of which end of the battery goes in the hole first, so you have to guess. When using a coin to open the battery compartment, the coin chipped off the paint. It shuts down too quickly, and takes a bit too long to "fire up".
I do like the True Ballistic Range, and I now know why I missed elk; they weren't as far away as I had guessed, and I had held too high. Hopefully, this feature alone will make me happy I chose this rangefinder."

RX-III,November 3, 2007
By fire3344from antigo,wi
"Product was a let down, I expected a better product for the money. Unit was purchased for a elk hunt and I was unable to range anything over 575yds. A call to Leupold was made and I was told that I could not expect to range anything over 600 yds with out a rest. Product stated a range of 1200 yds. I used other range finder on the trip and they worked great. I will be looking to get rid of these and purchase another brand."

Awesome rangefinder,November 1, 2007
By nechilisafrom North Idaho
"This rangefinder is really easy to use and very accurate. I used it to range dozens of deer and when the time came to shoot it was dead on! There are alot of features but for most situations you only need to set it on the one you use and forget it. The true ballistic range feature is a must have for anyone hunting in steep terrain. There are two nice bucks hanging in our shop now and I know without a doubt the rangefinder made it happen much easier than just estimating. Worth every penny!"

"Takes the guess work out of range estimate. It is a good learning tool as you can sharpen your own range estimations by comparing it to the rangefinder. Be careful in heavy brush as the reading may not be to your point of interest."

Great tool, needs basic refinements,October 5, 2007
By luvmycampfrom Nova Scotia, Canada
"First of all, if you are a bow hunter and are thinking about getting a rangefinder, do it. You owe it to the animals you hunt to know the exact range for proper shot placement. This rangefinder is what I would consider high end. It has a lot of features that may or may not suit your particular hunting needs. On the plus side, I think that it is light, tough and waterproof. It has some great features that you can fool around with out in the backyard or in the down time between active hunts. The problems that I have had with this product is something that I consider basic in nature. The display is very difficult to read in almost all conditions. Black lettering against a typically dark hunting background The illumination feature is useless as well as it just seems to turn the screen blue, washing out everything. For the type of hunting I do, this rangefinder is overkill but I really like having good stuff. I am disappointed that I have to struggle to see either the range or what mode I am in (bow vs rifle). Also, this may ssem like a trival matter but when I am ranging a nervous deer at 30 yards, the small click the power botton makes is a matter of concern."

Rangefinder,September 30, 2007
By Wyomhorsemanfrom Western Wyoming
"Nice piece of equipment. Enjoy using it. Very compact and light, nice to carry. It's a little difficult to range at long distance without a brace to stabilize it as even your heartbeat will make it waver off target. I use my spotting scope and lay the range finder on top of it. That works well and is quick."
