"Vector Portable Battery Charger has been performing very well. I purchased this charger to replace my older "bulk charger". I use it to charge two deep cycle batteries that power the electric motor on my canoe. It completely and quickly charges the batteries. My old charger would get very warm; while the fan on the Vector keeps the charger cool. Other reviews mentioned plastic clamps; however the unit I received has high quality metal clamps. I am very happy with this charger."

"found on doorstep when I got home from work. I have a new jon boat, trolling motor, and battery. I was looking forward to going fishing......Pluged unit into the wall.......POP!!!.........Nothing!!!!! smoke came out the side of the unit!!!!"

"The vector charger has met and surpassed expectations. This is the second one I have purchased and both have performed flawlessly. The free gift I was to received was never processed as the mailing address that was included was returned to me as an invalid address. Evidentlly, Black and Decker, who I understand purchased Vector did not bother to update the materials included with the charger. Other than that, I would reocmmend this product with no reservations"

"I bought this "smart" charger almost about a year ago, and I'm on my second one. While it will put a great charge on your batteries, the fan motor is problematic. My first one started to "grind" within a month of owning it. A gentle tap on the side would usually make the fan run smoothly again. After awhile, nothing would make it run smoothly. Pretty soon, the motor simply quit and the unit got VERY hot. I thought a battery charger should last more than 6 months so I took it back to the retail store and exchanged it for another. I figure any company puts out a dud once in awhile. Well, now I have my second one (with cheap plastic clamps, not metal like my first ones). Now the motor is grinding on this one, too. If you tip the thing to one side even slightly, the motor stops all together and heats up. I anticipate yet another failure soon. I won't buy another. I've now learned that this is a common problem with this charger. Once your motor starts grinding, the end of your unit is near. I'll by a Schumaker next time. AVOID the Vector. If it lasts a year consider yourself very lucky."

"This charger does a great job and I have used it for a couple of years to recharge 2 marine batteries (starting and trolling) after winter storage and trolling.
it's useful vs an installed charger because it can be used different places.
A major problem occurred this season when one of the clamps broke and stress cracks can be seen on the other. Cheap plastic vs metal hinge clamps don't last long and if you're going to be away form an automotive store, replace them now!!!!! (this is a must with the recommendation, above)"

"I really like the features on this charger. It steps back the rate of charge as it reaches full charge and then goes to maintain mode. Good for when you leave it on a battery and then forget to take it off for a day.
I wish it had a shut-off for the fan when it was in standby mode.
I will probably be returning it for a replacement as the cooling fan has a "whine" in it like it is rubbing on something. If you bump it or hold it just right it will quit. Other than that, which I think is probably just this one, it is a good product.
Bad news is, the flyer that just came out, had it $20.00 less than what I paid for it."

"This is a great charger. It has very useful options and is light and easy to store the cords. My only concern is that when I first start this charger up it makes some weird noises for about the first 2-3 minutes then it quiets down to what I think is normal. It's an all around good tool."
