RCBS Universal Hand Priming Tool

This updated version of RCBS's Hand Priming tool provides improved performance and added convenience. The universal shell holder eliminates the need for holders for each cartridge (.32 ACP- .45-70 Gov't). Also includes a primer seating safety gate. Tray can be easily removed for quick refills and accomodates all brands of primer packaging. Screw-in primer seat plugs.

"I bought this to get away from priming using my press, I wanted to make priming it's own step and ensure the primers are seated correctly. You can feel when the primer bottoms out with this tool. Only problem I've had so far is the primer feed (large both RT & LT) top side have cracked away from the bottom so it would not hold the primer tray. I had to super glue them to a point so the tray would stay level once mounted to the tool. My mistake, I dropped it with the tray mounted to it. I suppose I can call RCBS and get a replacement for the large primer feed. This tool makes priming cases quick, accurate and fairly easy."

"purchased this to save hassle of changing shell holders. works well. one caveat, you must make sure case is centered in jaws with standard diameter case head (308/30-06 families) if inserted past center case head pops free when ram advanced. also ultra mag type cases must be firmly held in place or jaws slip over rim"

"I highly recommend this tool to everyone. Aside from the ease of use, as well as use of any manufactures primers, this will simply increase the speed of your reloading process. It took a bit to figure out the instructions, the part about installation of the primer seater wasn't 100% clear (take the primer plastic channel out and you're fine), but nothing major.

It's worth the money. I was going to get the Lee one, but the fact you can't use Federal primers in it turned me sour since that is my primary primer manufacture.

The spring system is excellent, snapping the case into perfect position, regardless of case size (I've done .223 and .30-06). They fit flush and tight every time.

Way better then using your press!"

"I bought this tool because I never liked seating primers with the loading press. I didn't feel I could get the proper "feel" of when the primer was seated, when using a heavy realoading press. With the RCBS hand primer seating tool I can feel when the primer is seated. I have measured primer seating depth with a dial indicator, and the RCBS tool seated very accurate. This tool is made well, and I expect it will give me years of service. The universal shell holder is a plus if you reload different calibers, as it saves buying extra shell holders. Being so portable, I sometimes prime shells as I watch TV. I would, and have, highly recommended this tool to friends. I have not had any problems with this tool.

"I bought this tool because the primer feed on my old press broke down. I've used RCBS tools for 45 years, and have always found them to be top quality, but this one was a disappointment:
1. The plastic primer feed parts had mold flashing on them, that interfered with primer movement to the seat stem. Since primer feed is only by gravity, any interference prevents the primer from getting to the seat stem. When I deburred them, one side of the part was so thin that it broke through.
2. Changing the feed parts from large to small primers is complicated and time consuming.
3. Also, I found that to fully seat primers, I had to use both hands to exert enough force to do so. Insufficient mechanical advantage.
This tool would be OK if you only want to load 20 rounds of rifle ammo, a couple of times a year, but for 100s of pistol rounds, it is not practical. At a minimum, the primer feed parts (part list numbers 4,5,6,7) should be made of metal.
Fortunately, I was able to repair my old press. This tool will wind up on my table at the next gun show."

"The priming tool works very well as long as you follow the
directions and take your time. The universal shellholder
was a great improvement. But my old one works fine, too.
Just don't get in too big a hurry and it will do a fine job."

"Seems to work just fine, but sometimes on the smaller cases (.223) the case will snap out the the holder. Not a big enough deal to worry about, only about 2 or 3 times in 100."

"Great little tool and you don't have to keep changing shell holders however, you do have to "wiggle" the case a little to be sure that when you start squeezing the handle the primer is lined up with the primer pocket. After Priming a few cases I got use to the "feel" and the operation went well."

"I watch TV while priming cases ! You do not need to buy shell holders as it already has two teeth designed for being universal shell holder that contracts or expands to the shell being used. I really like it , and read the instructions ! Get your self a small lidded container to keep the small parts in. It is better construction than most hand primers out there :) I like to use this with my RCBS turret press , and just clean/prime cases seperately so I get to decide the charge , and type of bullet when needed. I recommend it if you are going to buy a hand primer.

IMPORTANT TIP: buy some comfortable gloves for your-self as it becomes a workout after 1,000 or so cases in a row ;)"
