Telescopic Fishing Lure Retriever,September 1, 2009
By Kanapolisfrom Kansas
"The pole would collapse when trying to retrieve lure and I don't recommend using it from a boat where there is any wave action. Useless item for a serious fisherman."

Really a multi-tool,September 1, 2009
By Ufatzfrom Uncle Fatz hangin' in the swamp
"Handy. Grabs lures as far down as 16'. Also reaches out to grab dock lines and bow lines, if needed, when loading/unloading from trailer. You can also use this to set decoys in a pothole by wading knee deep and then sticking the decoys the rest of the way out with your Decoy Placement Tool! Ha! I DO wish you could lock it at intermediate steps but once you unlock it you have to draw it all out. Then you just grab it where you need to. It's useful and the price is right. If it were twice the price I would not buy it."

cant fish without this,July 7, 2009
By augiedoggiefrom easton,pa.
"you need one of these.i saw this thing in catalog and thought it looked cheap, and like one of those cheesy infomercial gadgets.when i went to the cabelas store i examined it and figured it might work, but it was not worth the space it would take up in my tiny boat.then on my next fishing trip i lost an expensive, new lure a few feet out of reach in weeds and submerged brush.my next cabelas mail order had one ordered for me.i have retrieved several lures pretty easily, even when the boat wasnt in position and was moving around,i just hold my line tight and drop the coiled end over the line and push it down to the lure and pull it up. i have retrieved lures out of heavy weeds and brush after i broke my line. it earned its place on my crowded boat."

very poor quality,June 23, 2009
By crvffrom Ronkonkoma, NY
"Had a few times that I needed to use this item. Very difficult to lock poles to a certain length. This item needs to b e made with the same quality that telescoping oars are, with a positive lock at any length. For the price and cost to return, that cannot be done. I do not recommend this item."

Cabela's Lure Retriever,March 30, 2009
By Gerveyfrom Brusly, LA
"The first time I used the retriever the telescoping parts came back in and knocked the end screw part off of the unit and I lost it in the water. What a dissappointment, I had to carve a piece of wood and screw it on the end to keep this from happening. The trouble of mailing it back or driving 60 miles to return it is not worth it."

Lure retriever,July 28, 2008
By Anonymousfrom Lake Isabella, CA
"Great extension, larger hooks but retriever does not lock in @ mid extension so use of the oversized handle all for naught. Have to grip the extended rod underneath handle, thereby losing leverage. I can only use it fully retracted or fully extended. Should be valuable for use in very deep water, >15 ' or less than 5'. May be an operator problem as no instructions included."

Fish Retriever,July 28, 2008
By fishstumperfrom Lay Lake ,Alabama
"The Lure Retriever I purchased from you is a great product. Where I do most of my fishing has a lot of stump fields, which produce a lot of great fishing, but eat lures ,especially crank bates like candy. After I purchased your Lure Retriever ,the first day out fishing I figured I saved about $20. in lures and had no problem using the retriever. The only drawback I have about it, is that it has no locking joints when it is extended , which makes it a little clumsy handling it at various depths. Overall I am satisfied with this product."

Toooooo Big / Bulky,July 7, 2008
By FishinGtownfrom Georgetown, TX
"I purchased this lure retriever expecting something thin, relatively small, and compact that would retrieve a lure down to about 8-10 feet. This thing was HUGE and bulky. If you've got a 21' boat and plenty of storage, this may work for you, but I recommend something heavy weighted with a nylon string and a couple of loops."

a nice addition to my tackle,June 30, 2008
By waxcombfrom Martinez, CA
"I use this to free snagged lures from trees. So far, I have gained five new lures. I have also had a few drop into the water, so some sort of claw or grasping device would be nice. As far as getting lures out of weeds, it works well. Any longer would be hard to work with, but there are always a couple of lures that are just out of reach."

Oklahoma Fisherman,June 24, 2008
By OklahomaFishermanfrom Tulsa, OK
"I take this retriever with me on my annual pike fishing trip to Canada. I fish for big pike and often find myself fishing in and around rocks and weed beds with the inevitable snags. When these snags occur, this retriever has never failed to recover my lure. With titanium leaders costing around $10.00 and lures costing $5.00 and up, it doesn't take too long for this retriever to pay for itself and (just as importantly) keep otherwise lost lures available for use. While I haven't figured out how to use the retriever without help and it looks a little hokey using it, I would not go fishing in an area where snags are likely to occur without it. If you want to travel with it and it will not fit into your rod case, just put bubble wrap around the retrieving end and duct tape it to the rod case. I have done this and not had any problems with the airlines."

Cabela's lure retriver,April 1, 2008
By Basszilla
"Reading other reviews that say the thing won't stay extended - all you have to do is extend it fully and pull firmly at each joint to lock it in place. The only downside to this thing is that it's challenging to keep the boat in place and work this thing at the same time, but still - works great and pays for itself."

By hunter10231
"I was very dissapointed in this product!! I actually sent it back! poorly built! you have to extend full lenth to use.if your lure is 5 foot under water you have to use full length. there is no way to lock it in shorter position!!"

Cabel's Lure Retriever,March 7, 2008
By victorinthewestfrom Lincoln, CA
"I have it in my boat. I have not used it as yet and when I do I know I'll save a lure or more. I like the long extension and it will come in handy for other purposes such as retrieving a towel or hat that went overboard. It would be great if the handle can be locked at various lengths instead of fully extended. But the price is right and I feel a little more comfortable to have it."

Not Worth the Money,February 20, 2008
By 730Watersfrom Kent County,Maryland
"This retrieving pole has to be used either all the out (16')or all the way in (5')to use it. I bought it because it was on sale and figured it would be good to keep on the boat, don't waste your money, add a few dollars more and buy one that will lock at any length you want.
In this case a cheaper price isn't worth it.

awkward but worth it!!!,December 14, 2007
By slate8116from Lake View, IA
"I purchased this item and have used it for a couple of years now. Once I got use to the clumsiness of the weight distribution, it works well. The end cap came off, but was easily fixed with a piece of a plastic pop bottle and a bit of plastic electrical tape. A bit tough to use in the wind while in the boat, but with practice and patience it works well.
I am an avid walleye fisherman, and my favorite spot is in large concrete riprap. Crankbaits hang up regularly, and this lure retriever pays for itself four times over every time I fish that hole. I will eventually purchase another one to keep in my car for shore fishing!
This fall I fished the clear waters of Lake Taneycomo, and dropped a spinning combo in 14 feet of water. I could see it on the bottom in the rocks. After retrieving the rod, I landed the sixteen inch rainbow on the end of the line!
