Push Pole Review,
September 12, 2009
By SCBassman
from South Carolina
|
"The concept of the collapsible pole is good for space savings which is very important in a small boat. That said, the push buttons which hold it extended do not work well. They often (almost always) get stuck in the pushed-in position so the pole has to be taken apart and the button popped back out. Bottom line is once you get it extended your better off leaving it extended if you need the pole in a hurry. I have not used the paddle but like it's concept as well."

push pole,

"I recently purchased a Hunter's Specialties Push Pole to keep my new Lund off of rocks, docks, and logs. It is extremely stout and has no trouble stopping a boat from drifting into objects or getting off a shallow spot to put the engine down. It is a boat accessory that I don't leave home without."

not perfect but not bad,
July 8, 2009
By augiedoggie

"not a bad piece of boating gear.i bought the kit with spreader foot and paddle end.i have no use for the spreader foot, and plan on returning it.it does not seem worth the trouble to carry and store the spreader foot, and then remove paddle attatchment to install spreader foot? not me pal.the paddle end is plenty strong enough to pole my small boat along.which leads me to my beef with the paddle attatchment.it has two decoy string retreiver cuts along both sides of the paddle, which may seem brilliant for retreiving decoys, and maybe stuck lures but trust me its just a bad idea.when you use your paddle as a paddle it picks up and holds weeds like a hook.and your paddle gets way too heavy. and you spend too much time cleaning weeds and crud off paddle.do yourself a favor, put a piece of duct tape over this retriever groove, and it works fine.i dont think the spreader foot is much good for anything,if the paddle gets the job done, who needs spreader foot?"

"I love this new push pole kit for my duck boat. It gives me the ability to paddle, retrieve decoys and push my boat in marshy water to get exactly where I want to be. The ability to telescope and the quality of the material it is manufactured from makes it a must tool for your boat."

Impressed with the sturdiness,
February 16, 2009
By jkd1

"This sure beats the flimsy paddle I've been using to push my canoe around. It will fill with water and sink so put a tether on it and fasten it to the boat so you can retrive it if you drop it. The paddle blade is very sturdy and does a fine job of pushing against the rocks and tree limbs that seem to be my usual targets. I haven't tried that spring loaded forked end. I suppose it would be good on soft bottoms but that isn't where I usually canoe."

Hunter's Specialties Push Pole,
January 3, 2009
By JoeAmerican
from Missouri
|
"Most of you guys seem to be having good luck with this system, but my experience has been different. I just messed up my second pole and will not buy another because even though the concept is good the aluminum is just not sturdy enough at the sliding joints and the brass pins are too flimsy and jam up too much. I float fish and gig in shallow water where I need a reliable pole to get outta trouble quick and dont have time to mess with the sticky buttons. If you treat her real gentle in flatwater, she'll be OK, but wont take much heavy pushing or prying, because both of mine have bent where the attachments mount. If the manufacturer would beef up the joints with metal sleeves and better releases, I would consider buying another."

More than just hunting,
March 19, 2008
By Hookinlips
from Asheville N.C.

"The items work great. I do alot of fishing in a Jon boat' the rivers I fish in have plenty of places to get snaged thats where these Poles came in handy. The extending sections are a great option, when I get a high dollar lure snaged under water the retrievel hooks on the end of the paddle or the notched ends save my lures everytime. The only down fall is they fill with water and if you have a careless user they will sink and fast. I recommend a small nylon rope about 10' long slip knot it just above the half mark to avoid triping, and tie the other end to the boat that way if it gets droped you get it back."

Tough Enough when it stays together,
February 7, 2008
By maddog7shooter

"This pole works well as a paddle but I have had to fish the end off the bottom of the shallow water i was pushing through as it tends to come apart and if I was in deeper water I would surley lost the end, good concept very rigid but it does not lock very well keep you eye on the buttons, thet slip way to easy out of the holes!"

Only complaint wish it was 2' longer,

"Bought the push pole system, and it works very good. Have not used the paddle yet. Pole retracts for easy storing which is nice as there's never enough room in a duck boat. I do wish the pole was 2' longer though, and my only reason for not giving it 5 stars."
