This is a REAL pushpole!,July 11, 2009
By wildcardtoofrom PTC, GA
"I read the reviews before ordering so I knew the epoxy would have to be "measured" to get equal amounts. I also knew there were NOT any instructions. Small translucent lavatory cups worked for me. I did as suggested in other reviews, sanded inside and outside the joints first. I mixed 1/2 the epoxy and did both ends and let them dry overnight. Then mixed the other half and did the middle joint. As suggested, I wedged the pole together in the garage to keep it from pushing a part while drying. I also taped all ends before I epoxyed, so they came out looking real good. The only thing I think I would do differently is sand both factory beveled edges off the pipes before I epoxyed the middle joint together. So that the finished pipes butted up tight. Otherwise you need to allow for the "perfect bead" of expoxy to fill the void. By the way, this is slow drying epoxy. I sanded the bead lightly while the aluminum tape was still covering the ends of both poles. The joints all turned out real nice. This pushpole is really first class! It looks and feels and preforms like a professional pushpole. And I looked all over on-line and then in person and I couldn't find anything close in quality and price."

Very Functional,March 17, 2009
By SarasotaFlatsGuyfrom Sarasota, Fla
"Very good product at a very reasonable price. The going rate on a competitive product is at least $200 more and truly just not worth it. The assembly instructions are a bit bland and the epoxy was spilled all over the interior of the shipping box but I salvaged enough to assemble a very good pole at a great price!
good luck unless your fishing in my spots!"

Push Pole,November 28, 2008
By RedfishBillfrom Titusville, Florida
"I received my pole in a very timely fashion, but did not open it for several days. Upon inspecting the contents of the package I found Part "B" of the resin system to be hard. I called Cabela's and they promptly sent me some replacement adhesive which has worked very well. It was easy to apply and very effective!
Follow these instructions and you will have no trouble with the pole: Lightly sand all the ends and attachments with 400 grit paper, then wipe them clean with Lacquer Thinner (to remove any silicone or other dirt that may be present). Mix the glue 50-50 for about 45 seconds before applying it evenly to the male end of the attachment to be glued. Twist and press the ends firmly together, wipe the excess from around the joint and wrap tightly with duct tape - do this to all the joints. Once it is all glued and taped wedge both ends against a wall or other firm structure and let it dry for at least 24 hours. Once dry, remove the tape and sand any small imperfections smooth, it is now ready for years of use!
This is an excellent product I would recommend to anyone!"

push pole,April 1, 2008
By Anonymousfrom titusville, FL
"The push pole is well worth it for the price. At 18 ft its the perfect size for my 15ft pathfinder. I have put it under considerable stress and use and have had no problems. The pole is also stiff enough to get good push with minimal flex. The only thing is the pole comes with an epoxy resin to link the pieces, make sure to clean and ruff up ends with heavy grit sandpaper before applying epoxy. I had it come apart and rejoined it with marine 5200."

excellent value,February 20, 2008
By fishinpairfrom Florida
"Read prior reviews, assembled pole with a permanent glue to avoid problems. The epoxy supplied had leaked slightly during shipping. Pole is very stiff for the weight and the ribbed finish affords good grip. The only improvement possible is to have a screw type joint which would allow the pole to be stored easier. If you need a flats push pole this beats most of the competition for a great price, buy this pole!"

Broke - Had to return,February 1, 2008
By mpp1775from Atlanta, GA.
"Broke first time used. Did not come with instructions or paperwork. Just three 6 ft pieces and a bottle of epoxy glue to assemble them. Returning the broken pole was EXTREMELY EASY! They sent shipper to our house for pick up (shipper had our return label... no need to wait for it in the mail.) Two days later we had a FULL credit for the pole - shipping costs and all. If cabelas offfered another pole we would have bought it. The pole was junk but Cabelas and their customer service are the absolute BEST out there. Would be happy to spend an extra buck just to deal with them vs. anyone else out there."

pretty good product,January 29, 2008

"This pole is pretty good;pretty decent on wait also. I mainly use it in fresh water in ponds, lakes, and back water. I had no trouble with putting it together and mixing the glue. This is a very good pole for the price, but it probably could be a little lighter though."

Pretty Awesome Push Pole,December 31, 2007
By BryanSfrom Wilmington, NC
"I read the reviews and the comments and saw some issues with the epoxy. I'd just ignore those. I glued mine on a day when it was 85 degrees out, and I waited until the heat was past its peak so that the increased temp wouldn't cause the sections to seperate when drying. Also, I put one end of the push pole against the side of my garage and leaned a board against the other to make sure the sections glued snugly. I had no problem with the epoxy. Just make sure you empty one can into the other all the way, and mix it really well, and you're good. The rod is sweet--it's REALLY light. Really not much heavier than expensive one-piece poles that I have used. I am very pleased with this purchase."

Poor execution of a good idea.,August 26, 2007
By TheSquid
"I purchased the 18' three piece push pole because of the price and it's apparent quality. Iv'e used one piece push poles in Florida so I know what a good pole feels like. This pole came with three lengths of tubing, a mud foot, a point and two part glue. There were no instructions and the glue was not the same amount in each container even though it was to be mixed evenly. Since there was nothing to go by I just tried to do what made sense and it didn't work out. It's hot here now so I did the assembly on the house's deck. I mixed the lesser amount in the containers with an equal amount of the other which left me with extra of one that went to waste. I put masking tape around both sides of each joint to end up with a clean glue joint. When I assembled the pole it became air tight and as it heated the air inside expanded pushing the pole apart. To fix that, I drilled a .045" hole just above the pointed foot to act as a vent. It stayed assembled after that. I kept the pot of epoxy to check for when it was cured. I removed the masking tape when the glue was still soft and got nice clean joint lines. The problem is the glue didn't adhere to the male part of the joint and the pole came apart at one joint and I have no faith that it is strong at the others. I will use a glue made for golf clubs due to its shear strength to reglue the pole. The assembly process needs to be modified and a better glue provided. Don't forget the vent hole!"

Push pole,July 16, 2007
By BambooNCfrom Wilmington, NC
"Sorry guys my first order - but the push pole has surface defects - but I did not want to suffer the postage and return. I used the supplied epoxy and applied it under hot dry condition - it hardened in the container but did not seal or hold on the pole slip joints - the sections were easily pulled apart. I will try to purchase some new epoxy to reglue."

Push pole great for fishing Florida flats,April 30, 2007
By Ganormacfrom Fort Myers, Florida
"Cabela's push pole is perfect for moving my boat through shallow water and over sand bars in Estero Bay, Florida. The 12' pole is the right length while I'm standing in my 17' center console fishing boat, while I would select the 18' pole if I were pushing from an elevated platform on a traditional flats boat. The push pole lets me make a slow, silent approach that does not spook the fish. It's much less expensive than a trolling motor, and doesn't depend on batteries and chargers. I have found the pole very light and strong, with just the right amount of flex. One end has a "foot" that works well in sand and mud, whicle the other end is pointed, for hard bottoms. The only disadvantage is that I'm still trying to figure out how best to store it in or on my boat. My boat's shape doesn't offer convenient places to install brackets."

PUSH POLE FOR BACK BAY,April 16, 2007
By JETTYPACERfrom Bucks County Pa.
"Cabelas came through again for me. A very hard item to find up north. I purchased a 12 ft. model and it worked perfectely. You can shut your motor down and sneak into those shallow areas barely making a sound. once you get there just push it into the soft bottom and tie up. If the tide goes out a little sooner than expected , no need to get out of the boat, just use the pole to push yourself into deeper water. the only thing that surprised me was the length of time it took for the epoxy glue to set up, even though I mixed it exactely 50/50"

Works Great,March 11, 2007
By MrWolf
"I was sceptical because this pole was much less than some of the pro poles but the pro poles cost too much and shipping of a solid 20 foot pole was out of sight. I bought this pole and it's been a pleasant surprise. It was easy to assemble, it is stiff and light weight, and works flawlessly. I've been pushing my 21 foot skiff all over the flats for over a year now and have had no problems with the pole."

Nice Push Pole,November 20, 2006
By snookinfrom Lititz, PA
"This is very nice push pole. The surface is slip free, it has rings molded in the glass and when you grip the pole it feels very soild. I purchased the 18' pole, it's strong and lite. A lot of push pole for the money."
