With reliable, responsive steering control and rugged motors, the Edge is built to get you into tough spots and back out again with ease. Edge foot-control models are equipped with a highly responsive foot pedal allowing you to steer and fish at the same time. Foot pedal is made of high-impact composite material and has a side-mounted momentary/constant on switch. The heel/toe action provides reliable, responsive cable steering. An easy-to-read directional indicator is built into the top of the motor head on foot-control models. Tempered, marine-grade extruded aluminum mount is super strong, yet lighter in weight. "Motor works NOW after I changed 3 wires on the foot control.

First time out it ran backwards (prop turning in the wrong direction). I checked my connects -/+ and they were correct. So I called Minn Kota and I and the phone rep found that it was wired wrong from the factory. After I made the changes it not only ran in the right direction but also about 5 times faster.

I have to give Minn Kota credit as the lady on the phone took the time and made sure I got it running correctly. Great phone service and that saved me from sending it back in the mail."

"I installed the 40 Edge / 45" Shaft on my 1648 Tracker Grizzley to do some Crappie Fishing and this motor has plenty of power to move this boat. When fishing around snags, etc., number 2 speed is all you need, which saves the battery. Anything higher is too fast for this type of fishing anyway. So far, when fishing from 3 to 4 hours, only using about a third of the battery charge, so I think you could get a minimum of 10 hours on one charge.
The only drawback I found, which is probably the same on all trolling motors, is the wires to the battery should come a little longer. On the tracker grizzley, I needed a couple more feet to be able to get the foot control comfortabley in front of the seat on the front deck with the battery on the floor behind the deck. There is no problem in doing this except finding the 6 gauge wire. The connectors were available at the auto parts store but they did not carry the 6 gauge wire. Luckely , I was able to find the wire at a commercial wiring warehouse locally without having to order it. After extending the wires and installing an inline 50 amp breaker, everything was ready to go.
I would recommend this trolling motor because the wiring issue would probably be the same on all the motors."

"First time owner of a Minn Kota trolling motor. I must say I am very impressed with the units... power... quality... and most of all the mount. I bought it to mount on my smaller 14 ft jon boat that had a motor guide pro 43 lb. I must say the minn kota is a much better product for the money and I will be replacing my 54 lb motor guide on my larger boat with a minn kota trolling motor in the near future..."

"Minn Kota's Edge series of bow mount trolling motors is definately a product any freshwater fisherman should consider. For one, especially if you enjoy fishing electric only lakes, you can buy with confidence knowing that this motor is extremely energy efficient. One deep cycle marine battery in the $100 range will keep this motor running strong for atleast 10 hours of hard and fast fishing, even when using the motor on full speed! I am also impressed with the motors range of power. If you put this motor on speed 1, you will move slow enough to troll live bait, or fish a finesse jig on the bottom. Conversely, speed 5 provides enough top end to get you from spot to spot with minimal wasted time, even when heading straight into a strong wind. This motor was fairly easy to mount, the shaft has proven strong and durable after I spent a full season banging it into stumps and running it through thick beds of lilly pads, and it is extremely quiet. This was the first bow mount foot control motor I ever purchased, and I am sold on Minn Kota products for life because of how pleased I am with this product."

"I have owned 5 minn kota motors over the past 30+ years, and I am still using 3 of them now. A fourth, which I gave to a friend a couple of years ago is still working; the fifth, burned out this past summer (15+ years old). I bought a 12-volt Edge to replace a 24-volt Power Drive bow mount. While I enjoyed my years with the Power Drive bow mount, it did tend to be a bit noisy when I stepped on the pedal to engage the motor. I replaced the bushings, which helped for a while, but the motor still lifted with some noise when I stepped on the pedal.

I bought the edge because I wanted a light-weight 12-volt motor to use on my 14" boat. I power my boat exclusively with Minn Kota electric motors, and use it almost exclusively in reservoirs.

The Edge is a wonderful motor. It was easy to install, even on a "V" Bottom boat with a small bow plate. The Edge is simple to operate, and best of all for me, it is so quiet on speeds 1 through 4, I hardly hear it running. The 5th speed is great for that extra push needed to get from place to place in the reservoir, or on the river. Believe me, the difference in thrust between speeds 4 and 5 is phenomenal! Another benefit is cost and battery efficiency. The motor sells for under $350, and operates 6 hours or more on one 12-volt (105 amp) battery. In my experience,this includes fairly constant use on speed 2, with ocassional use of speeds 4 and 5 to supplement the 55lb. thrust Endura transom mount."
