Decent kit,November 19, 2009
By DocSSfrom Michigan
"The starter kit is pretty good with most of the things you need to get up and running for a BP revolver - no caps nor powder are in the kit. The only thing I don't really like is the flask being plastic and having the powder stick to the surface but it does still work as intended."

Cabela's Black-Powder Revolver Starter Kit,September 1, 2009
By HotRodDavefrom Antioch, Ca (S.F.Bay Area)
"Excellent starter kit. I also purchased the 1858 New Army Revolver. There is a conflict between the two manuals that came with the gun. This kit contains .451 balls. In the Cabela's manual it says to use .451s but in the Pietta manual, it says .454. I'll let you know when I review the gun after I have shot it with the .451s. Hope they work."

Revolver Kit,March 2, 2009
By pops89from Monroe, WA
"Everything that I received in the kit was as expected however the nipple wrench (the main reason I ordered the kit) metal was too soft and I could only remove 4 of the 6 nipples from the pistol. The wrench is now destroyed and I will have to take the pistol to a gunsmith to get the other two out."

Black Powder Starter Kit,December 2, 2008
By slfreefrom TX
"Short of the Black Powder and instructions, this is all you need. The kit is for the total novice who has some instructions on how and how much to load. You're allowed 18 shots, after which get out your wallet because you will want some much better items. Plastic powder flask will not measure so is useless. The measure is an extra step that the flask should do for you so its useless. The nipple wrench in my kit broke on the fifth of six nipples. A friend to show you what you need is a much better option."

powder flask,March 26, 2007
By mountainmanandyfrom S Tx
"Tho the advertised mdse didnt specify, I'd expected a antiqued-flask, design.. I probably agree the plastic one will withstand more use, no corrosion. Perhaps it's my perception. Otherwise, the mdse was as other Cabela's, "the good stuff'. andy"

Revolver Starter Kit,November 22, 2006
By TRB1from Portland, ME regular Cabela's customer
"This kit is definitely not worth the money. I purchased this kit with a new revolver. The nipple wrench is made out of cheap metal. The first time I tried to remove brand new nipples the wrench rounded over with only minimal force and became useless. The flask, although functional, does not have a built in powder measure and so to fill the revolver chambers you have to use the separate powder measure. With this setup you have to flip the flask up to dump powder into the measure. Then you have to separate the two without dumping powder all over the place. You might be successful a couple times but then you will dump powder. The cap holder is also flimsy and frustrating to load. The caps flip over and so you end up loading it twice. When you go to load the caps onto the revolver nipples, you can't get enough leverage to keep them tight so you will drop them on the ground. There is no spring in the holder to keep the caps tight. All in all the only useful items in the kit are the balls, grease and patches, and you don't need the patches if you use the grease. Save the 50 bucks and buy individual quality items. You will only end up with 5 bucks worth of useful stuff if you buy this kit."
