"I have been using the Garmin 60CSX for a couple of years now and would not want to be without it. This is an amazing piece of equipment. Mark any location for any reason and always be able to find it again day or night. The biggest part of using GPS is this; you have to trust it! You can be sure you should be going one way but the unit will tell you your wrong. Trust it, carry a compass to be compare and make sure you calibrate the electronic compass!"

    garmin gps 60x, October 29, 2009
By PedroMcD from West Yellowstone, MT

"My Garmin GPS saved the day recently on my Elk hunt. After hours of tough tracking, with a friend in rapidly vanishing snow, sign of my wounded elk just disappeared. After many anxious minutes of attempting to find any trace of the animal, I decided to back track to where I personally had last seen blood. Using my gps, I was able to go back to the exact spot, where we had last had good sign. The light snow had melted, but I was able to ascertain that one elk had peeled off from the rest of the small herd. Following this hard to see track led to my dead elk. Without my garmin gps, I am confident in saying, I would not have found this elk in such short time if at all. Also, by loading the MapSorce western topo map into my gps, I was able to find the nearest forest service road to get my elk out to."

great unit, getting dated., September 22, 2009
    By weeman

"I've had the 60csx for several years now and it's a nice gps with all the things you look for in a gps. They were quite expensive when they first came out but this is probably one of the most highly rated handheld gps units on the market for quite some time. The newer garmin gpsr's are definitely giving this model (and the 76csx) a run for the money with their big screens and highly detailed map drawing capabilities. Between the cx and the csx, i would have to recommend against the csx that i have and go for the cx. The difference is a full time electric compass and barometric barometer in the csx. I found that when i turn off the electric compass, the battery life jumps waaaay up and it's a feature i thought would be useful but has yet to be used. Basically, most gps units have a compass that only works when you're moving, that's the difference, you decide.

I'm about to make the jump to a newer model as this unit is getting a little old but it will definitely serve you well if you choose to buy it today. Garmin mapping software eclipses all other gps companies here in the West (another gps company is bigger is europe).

One thing you should probably watch for is that your 60cs/x has a SiRFstar receiver chipset. ...there was a lot of talk that this model might be switching to garmin's own reciever chips which may or may not be better. What i can say though is that 99% of the reviews you find raving on about the 60cs/x gps is based on the performance of the SiRFstar chip's reception and satellite lock.

Not Too Happy, September 18, 2009
    By martingale from Houston, Texas

"I had an Etrex Legend that I was very dissatisfied with because it wouldn't work under the tree canopy where I hunt. I'd heard good things about this unit and thought the electronic compass was a good feature to have, so purchased the 60CSx.

Indeed, it works well under the trees, and is much faster to acquire location. However, the electronic compass doesn't work. Even out from under the tree canopy, it just flat doesn't work.

Also, when you have the electronic compass turned off and are using that page with the bearing pointer, the bearing pointer is very slow to react to changes in direction. So slow, in fact, that I gave up using it at all. To find a waypoint, I just get the distance and compass heading off the waypoint (these seem to be accurate), and then use my regular compass to guide me to the waypoint. But since the compass headings aren't any finer than 45 degrees (for example, SE, not SSE), even this method will have you getting to your way point in something less than a straight line.

I'm exchanging this for the lower priced 60Cx. Since the compass isn't reliable (and this isn't a one-off, as you'll see if you read other reviews), there's no point in me paying for it.

"Excellent product. I have had my Garmin GPS 60csx for two years. I am 66 years old and I need all the help I can get. I do a lot of off road quad riding and I have used the 60csx to find my way back to my truck. The color screen is easy to see. Great product."

"Took me three tries to find a GPS that did what I wanted in the back country. This unit is very easy to use, helped me find interesting sites in the outback here in Nevada, and showed me how to get back to camp. I bought the West 24k topo map on an SD, and the detail on this map is amazing. This particular map shows only California and Nevada, but that is where I go to play. I got the handlebar mount for my ATV and a 12v power cord. I highly recommend this unit."

No Problems at all, February 11, 2009
    By Tigeone from Arizona

"I bought this GPS after much research and have no regrets,It is fast and always reliable.I use it for geocaching, the only downside is when you download the Geocache the only info you get are the coordinates, the name of the cache and who posted it,no details or hints for the cache as other GPS units will download all that information, but that`s not critical.I also use it in the desert mounted to my motorcycle and I have to say it withstands the punishment.Once and awhile it will shut off but I think that may be due to a battery issue,I use standard AA batteries and it lasts a very long time,I installed the topo pre programed map card for the southwest and it is very good.I would rec this to anyone looking for a high quality unit,It will last very long and you will be pleased!!Go Garmin!!"

"I am very pleased. This is my third hand held GPS since Trimble began making the Scout in 1994. This Garmin 60CX is incredibly fast for sattelite acquisition and very user friendly. Once through the manual and I am proficient. If you buy the software, you can overlay the screen with topographical maps which also have roads on them. Therefore, it is ok for on street navigation. I like it!"

"Purchased a gpsmap60csx and it works well. It would be nice if it had a better base map. There are two lakes by my home that are not on the map. I purchased the lakemaster Mn card which adds alot of detail including my two lakes. This is my second Garmin and I'm very happy with it. Garmin could include a lakemater card for the price of the unit."

    DON'T DO IT!, October 17, 2008
    By MNArcher from Bemidji, MN

"I bought one of these just over a year ago. First off I had to reset the compass EVERY time I went to turn the thing on. Also, after very limited use the backlight would not turn on. I contacted Garmin directly and they told me it would cost at least $150 (min. repair charge) to fix it. After I reset the compass and if the sun is up, it works just fine."

"Easy to use right out of the box . I like the ability to mark waypoints and then backtrack and this unit is fast and easy to navigate through the menus. Probably has more features than I will use but I will more than likely load some topo maps of my favorite areas. For the money I feel I got the best deal on the market and would recommend this unit to anyone who likes hunting or rides atv's,"

The Very Best GPS., September 29, 2008
    By friend from Massachusetts

"This is my third Garmin GPS, and I must say it is the very best. Easier to use. Reception is unbelievable, It stays locked onto satellites in my home and under the most dense canopy of leaves in the woods, where my old Garmin Vista would constantly loose satellites. I trust this one to go anywhere and get me back. You would not be sorry with purchasing one of these."
