Truely a 5 star item.,November 19, 2009
By RobLLfrom Greenville,Ms
"This is a great product. They are very functional with the bars being just the right distance from the cab. I also like the support bracket midway down the bar. Easy installation - maybe 45 min. Great item."

Cabelas's Trail Gear Nerf Bars,August 31, 2009
By Gobbler1from Rapid City, SD
"Appears to be good product at a good price... time will tell how well they hold up/wear.
I installed these on a 2009 F-150 Supercrew and found the instructions good and easy to follow. All the hardware was there which is always a plus! Installation took about two and a half hours including running around for tools I didn't think I'd need. The first side is always a learning experience; the second side went much quicker.
These are nice looking nerf bars and add an extra touch of class the truck. They definitely make getting in and out easier for smaller stature people."

Review 4 for Cabela's TrailGear™ Stainless Steel Tube Steps
"(This review pertains to an installation on a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE extended cab model.)
First of all, the instructions are minimally helpful; READ THEM, anyway. Inventory the parts, separating bolts and washers in two small bowls (one for each side). Note: the two stainless tube steps are identical; you can install on either side.
Check the underside of the cab, and locate the vertical channels that house the body mount bolts; they'll have rubber isolators. (If you're a little confused, don't worry. You can loosely mount a tube bar on the front and rear brackets. Then place tube on the ground, under the truck cab, and lift the ends up toward the underside of the cab. This helped me put my eyes on the body mount bolts in the vertical channels, and was suggested by a Cabela's guy in their West Hartford, CT store.)
The body mount bolts require an 18mm socket. Remove the bolts, and mount the front and rear brackets finger-tight, making sure you have the rubber isolator and large washer assembly in its original position. (The instructions indicate the rear bolts aren't reused. I disregarded that, and reinstalled all four original body mount bolts.) Use a lock washer over flat washer on the body mount bolts.
The rear bracket has a smaller bolt threaded on both ends, which installs horizontally and butts up against the frame. One end takes a rubber bumper; be sure to recess the bolt about an 1/8 of an inch inside the bumper. You can adjust two outside serrated nuts on this bolt to adjust the rear bracket and height of the rear bar.
If you haven't installed the tube onto the brackets, do it now with lock washer over flat washer. Tighten the bolts "manly tight" (ladies will have to 'cowgirl-up, or lasso the nearest man to help). Eyeball the bar, and make necessary adjustments. I used the upper hole on the front bracket.
Now, tighten the body mount bolts until there is some resistance. Then, use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 45-50 foot lbs. (Overtightening these bolts can result in damaged rubber isolators.)
Once installed, wipe the tubes with your bandana for a great shine. That's it!
(I would've given these nerf bars 5 stars, except for the crummy instructions/photos.)"

Nice Steps - Poor Hardware,May 27, 2009
By FarmerEngineerfrom Illinois
"Bought steps for my 08 F250 Super Duty Regular Cab. Steps are very nice and appear of high quality. The mounting hardware is another story altogether. The U nuts stripped out tightenening them with a cordless drill. Totally inadequate. The online chat help suggested tightening them only barely more than finger tight. I finally got them to have someone from Cabelas call next day and they promised to have higher quality U nuts sent. It took 4 or 5 days to get them but the new U nuts were much better. If only they had been the right size. They were too big for the holes in the truck. They were for 3/8 bolts rather than the original 5/16. The slots in the mounting brackets were too narrow for 3/8 also. After opening holes in truck and widening slots in the brackets I got them mounted up. What would have been 45 minute job turned into over 2 hours (over 3 if you include the initial unsuccessful attempt). Steps are very nice and really great improvement for getting in and out of truck. It always amazes me they do the hard part really well and then totally mess up providing adequate hardware which is the least expensive part of the whole deal."

Stainless Steel Tube Steps need rubber bushings,February 3, 2009
By Daddyoutdoorsfrom Carrollton,Ga
"The tube steps were easy to install after 30min of trial and error. Instructions are limited and pictures are difficult orientate. The driver side rear stability bracket would not fit on my 2008 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab. I had to take each step off after a week of hearing a squeaking/ grinding noise when braking. This was easily resolved by placing a rubber bushing between all metal to metal surfaces. This made a tight seal and no more squeaking. The stainless steel tube steps look great on my truck and work well for my children getting in and out of the vehicle. I would recommend this product but would take time to buffer all bolted surfaces. Definatly takes 2 people to install."

Good Steps!,December 3, 2008
By SpringValleyFarmfrom Hagerstown, MD
"I am very happy with the tube steps. As others have said, throw away the instructions, the steps are very easy to install. Having an air impact wrench to remove/install the bolts is a great help. BEFORE you tighten all the bolts and spacers, set the truck on a level surface and measure/eyewball the height of the steps."

Tundra Tube Steps,November 2, 2008
By larry45from California and Arizona
"These arrived a few days ago, and my son and I put them on today, 11/1/08. On a 2008 Toyota Tundra there are bolts in the body on the under side. The supplied bolts are longer and require a 13mm socket rather than a 12mm for the stock bolts. The three brackets fit right to the holes, sung fit on all 6 (3 brackets each side). I used red locktite, although lock washers were provided, just to be sure they don't ever come loose. These things are clearly heavy duty. It took about an hour to install, but it could have been done quicker, we just didn't hurry, and had to talk to neighbors that came over to look. The down side, at least on this set is the instruction sheet. It is poorly printed, and cut off on the right side. However, we did not have any trouble as it is pretty easy to figure out from the the 2 photos that were legible."

Great product!,June 4, 2008
By Jimmy11234from NJ
"Bought these SS steps to replace a powder-coated pair installed back in 2003. I love the stainless ... don't have to worry about rust-through (what killed the old pair). Like many reviewers have said, the instructions are not 100% complete. If you take the time to lay out the parts, think about how it should work and do some quick test fits these will install quite easily. Took me two hours from the time I opened the box to the time I was standing there admiring the new steps on the truck. The next truck will get a pair of these as well!"

Review 20 for Cabela's TrailGear™ Stainless Steel Tube Steps
"First, the website was confusing and I purchased the wrong ones. Fortunately, Cabelas sent the correct ones at no additional charge and I returned the first ones. The instructions for mounting were inaccurate and incomplete. It wasn't until I installed the first one that I realized there was indeed a front and a rear to them. The part that curves toward the body of the truck are different lengths. The front part is the longer of the two parts. Also, there are reinforcement brackets that don't seem to mount anywhere on the mounting brackets. The brackets hang down a little more than I like."
