"The first thing I saw when I opened the box imprinted on the plastic portion of the tailgate was "NO STEP." This tailgate has one metal bar running through it with the rest being plastic. It is called "composite" but in all reality it's plastic. Did I mention, it's PLASTIC! I would like to know how one is expected to get things on or off thier pick-up bed (especially a 4x4?) without stepping on the tailgate? There are small sheetmetal screws attaching the plastic to the main bar that would pull out with the slightest of ease. I'm not sure how you would even set anything heavier than 40 or 50 pounds on this tailgate without it pulling out the screws. I would not recommend this tailgate to anyone. It is totally under-engineered! Stay away!"

"Model VG 97-2000 The installation went OK. Opening and closing the gate is cumbersome due to the thick Rubber C-Channels. Even with both latches adjusted fully out you need to push each corner fairly hard to latch the tailgate. To unlatch you need to push each corner again while pulling the gate handle up. The Rubber C-Channels sometimes come off the latch when operating the gate so keep an eye out for them. For the money this gate is OK."

"I pull a 5th wheel trailer and I was afraid the inevitable would happen and I'd pull away from the hitch with my tailgate up. I replace my tailgate with the one offered by Cabela's and I no longer worry about that. It fits good and was easy to install."

"The sizing of the tailgate is bad. The manufacture supplies "spacers" to adjust for "centering" around the sides and to keep it from "falling off". The bumper pads around the latches are not wide enough to keep the tailgate from vibrating and making noise. I contacted the manufacture about the problem, also to check to see if I received the correct one. They requested a date stamp info. and a picture of the gaps between the pickup and tailgate. I never heard back from them. I would return the tailgate but the shipping cost would be so much and I would not have anything to show for it. Don"
