"This item did not work out of the box, had to return for replacement, thank god cabelas stands behind what they sell, So far the replacement is working fine"

"A well built radio,works well,except I read thru all these reviews to see how far they would go,but nobody really said. Well I have checked the one I just bought and it will go almost a mile thru bush and maybe two miles over open land. Not really what I was looking for but it will work. The battery holds a good charge and the radio is built very solid. I dont know whats out there that would give me more range and be portable."

"My cousin and I got the rechargeable model and love it.
PROS: Good range - even in mountainous terrain. Clear reception - works well for these older ears. Waterproof - great for all kinds of weather. Small and not too heavy.
CONS: No way to silence the danged beeps when you push a button or turn it on. If you could silence it I'd give it 5 stars. A little on the heavy side for backpacking, but not too bad.
Overall a great unit. I would recommend it to a friend."

"Excellent radio. I have had problems in different areas that I hunt/backpack/camp in with poor reception. The Hummingbird never failed. It made a big difference having accurate weather updates. It is light and easy to pack. You will be glad you purchased it especially when you needed it the most. I would highly recommend."

"I have truly enjoyed this product, it has exceeded all my expectations. The rechargeable battery pack has held its charge all day, everyday that I have used it. I am talking about 10+ hours at a time usage with lots and lots of transmit and receive traffic.(Large group of friends all trying to find the best spots) It seems to have good range for a handheld model, and the quality of the receive traffic is great. I would highly recommend this product and buy it all over again."

"This is a very good radio for hunting big game animals in all kind of weather in deep forests and mountain areas. I only wish that there would be a headphone option but I understand this could be difficult in order to keep the unit waterproof. The beep when the radio is turned on serves no purpose and makes unwanted noise. All around, a very good product."

"I bought the camo model. This is a good radio for a good price. Pros: works great, camo, compact. Cons: does not have recharging built in. You have to use rechargeble batteries and remove them to charge in your home charger (if you own one) or use alkaline batteries. In retrospect, I would have bought the more expensive model that includes a built in charger and battery pack as well as a 12v charger. I would have bought the other model the first time, except the rechargeble radio does not come in camo. Otherwise it is a great value for the price."

"i really like this Humminbird VHF 55 radio you get strong recieveing and transmitting in just about any condition you find your self in you have hi/lo settings very long battery life it is totaly submergible it works! i know i droped mine in a branch. i hog & bear hunt, and this radio is just about as important as my gun and dog's it is truly a vital part of my equipment, i realy think that every hunter or boater should realy take a real good look at the Humminbird VHF55 hand held radio it is the best one i have ever used."

"Those of us that hunt with hounds often find ourselves in rough country in wet weather. We commonly use a handheld VHF radio to communicate with our hunting partners to tell then which canyon we are in or how to get a truck near where the dogs are coming out. The Humminbird VHF 55 is small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, it has a long battery life and is waterproof and virtually indestructible. THis radio is perfect for the hunter and adds a little reassurance of safety with it's long range communication ability. I highly reccomend this radio to anyone.
