"Good product to work with. Polished tooling marks from front sight, rear sight and trigger guard. Deburred hammer and trigger, then polished sear and hammer hook. Filed bottom of rear sight to get to point of aim. Replaced spring in loading lever for stronger tension. Polished tooling marks out of barrel's forcing cone, then crowned the muzzle. Deburred nipples and uniformed flash holes in them. It now is a beautiful thing to behold. The cylinder's timing was perfect right out of the box, and it will shoot 12 off hand shots into a half dollar size hole, at 10 yards. Glad I bought it."

"I looked over my new purchase and found it had no problems on the outside as far as looks go. The hammer was slow to move and I needed to clean out the buffing compound from the screw slots as well as the insides of the gun. The buffing operation made the gun seem slippery in my hand. All the sharp edges have been buffed smooth, NICE. Only two burrs on this gun, one on the loading lever latch and one on the inside of the frame by the main spring adjustment screw. Not hard to remove with a little wet dry sand paper. I agree with the other reviews, this gun is very easy to clean mostly due to the buffing. This gun is noticeably easer to seat balls in the chamber. The chamber bores have been counterbored just a touch. Nice! The back target sight windage screws were drilled at differant levels holding the back sight shim at an angle and the main spring was weak. Cabela's replace both very fast, these people are easy to work with. After having the barrel coned to eleven degrees it was off to the range. My own shooting skills are lacking so I had a good shooter blast away for me. A two inch square coved all the holes at 25 yards so I'm happy. The cylinder alignment was dead on, a first for me. This gun is flat out fun to shoot and take care of."

Great cap and ball revolver,August 24, 2009
By DeadDuckfrom Rural Iowa
"I purchased one of these to take hunting this deer season. The fit and finish is excellent and the gun has a good feel in the hand. I have been shooting Goex FFFg under a felt wad and a 0.451 round ball. With very little practice, the grouping at 50 yards is good... definitely within the kill zone of a whitetail deer. The gun does shoot very high, even with the adjustable sight set at the lowest point. This is a beautiful gun that will hang on my wall at home, and in my holster during deer season."

Real Happy Customer,June 18, 2009

"Received my revolver a couple of weeks ago, and shot it for the first time this past week. I'm now a black powder fan! This all started when I shot my friends black powder gun awhile back. This is really nicely made. Fit and finish are first class. When firing it at the gun range, it operated flawlessly. I really like the rear gun sight. It will take me a little time to fine tune it, but I was hitting the target 90% of the time at about 15 yards. I believe the stainless steel is a very big plus when it comes to cleaning it. One ironic twist of fate, I missed it going on sale on your web site about two weeks later, but I have no quarrel with the price difference. It is worth every dollar spent! Thanks Cabela's for a great product!"

The Blackpowder Revolver to shoot!,August 26, 2008
By Anonymousfrom North Florida (the real Florida)
"I have been shooting black powder for nearly 40 years. I own 6 other Cap & Ball revolvers in .31, .36, and .44 calibers. They are all fun to shoot, but the 1858 New Army Stainless Target Revolver is the one I enjoy the most because of its accuracy and ease of cleanup. This Italian replica is made with precision, all parts fit with close tolerance. The New Army frame design with its top strap is strong so I am not concerned with over charging it even with a compressed fffg powder charge. It is very well balanced and easy to hold on aim."
