Arrow Backpacker Pontoon, October 12, 2009
    By egreg from northern California

"When put together, it's an adequate one man pontoon boat.

But forget the backpack idea........a total nightmare to disassemble and try to get back into backpack.even when following the inclosed directions............. which were part chineese.

One would be much better buying a non back packable version which probably will get you more boat for your dollar.

Bad valves & no customer support, September 30, 2009
    By Smartie

"I purchased the Arrow Hunter Pontoon Boat and the main valves do not seal. I contacted the manufacturer and received no help or support. The pontoon boat is worthless to me and I would not purchase another one. I would spend more and get a reliable one."

Good Design Poor Quality Control, September 12, 2009
    By FlyFishingOregonStreams from Oregon

"I purchased this boat for access to those great river holes just not reachable by wading or hiking. The design is excellent, but some components should be upgraded and the frames should be test assembled before shipping. A weld deformed one of the tubes on the main frame so that the oar extension would not slip into the main frame. I had to grind the smaller tube and then acid etch prime the exposed steel. It is now a press fit so that I must pack a small rubber mallet to assemble and disassemble the boat.

Amazingly the entire pontoon boat packs up into the backpack. The backpack has no frame, but does have a waist belt, sternal belt and O rings on the straps. I can strap my PFD fishing vest to the back of the pack and my rod/reel case on the side of the pack. GPS and or water bottle can clip onto the strap O rings.

The foot pump is a common low pressure unit and is not strong enough to overpower the one way springs on the valves. My solution was to cut a short piece of plastic, used to hold dry erase pens, slightly longer than the end of the pump and place it over the valve spring. When I press and hold the end of the pump over the valve, the plastic depresses the spring and lets air in. When I release the pressure, the spring closes. (I also purchased a locking adapter and hose that fits a standard high pressure double pump.)

I jury rigged an oar stopper from a all in one plastic locking oar oar lock that has an oar collar. I removed the pin from the oar lock and ground the ends of the plastic pin axle with a bench grinder for a tighter fit. I then cut some rubber and lined the oar collar with the rubber to get a better grip on the the paddle. I then bolted the oar collar onto the paddle over the rubber, inboard of the factory stopper. (DONT actually use locking oars on this boat on a real river. You may need the freedom to pull in and feather the oars if needed.)

So this is boat is a great idea and great design, but falls down in components and quality control. If you want a packable Pontoon boat, be prepared to customize this boat to get it to work reliably.

fly fishing pontoon, September 11, 2009
    By MichiaganLakesGirl from Adrian, MI

"the boat is berry good on the water. The foot pump is rilly bad leaks to much so i went out and baught a dubble flow air pump and took the balve for the boat and a clear piece of hose and made a way to put it on a better pump. When i am done with the boat and the pump i put it all in the bag the pump doesn't fit in the bag but there is a spot on the bag for u to put a tent or something so i just put the bigger pump there and that way it only takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to blow up the pontoons. the seat is a little flimsy but it is better than having a metal pole across your back. the hardest thing that i have found with the boat is getting the seat platform togeather and appart. Everything else goes pritty well. I have a friend who has a pontoon boat as well but he has the blue and white one and it has a pole across the top of his back and that is the only thing that he doesn't like about it. The boat also works good for fagular fishing that is what we use it for and i think it is great."

    Horrible boat, August 25, 2009
    By JesseLB from california

"This item wasn't what I thought it would be. The foot pump is horrible, takes way too long to fill up the pontoons. Putting the boat together is time consuming. The platform is very unstable, feels like your going to fall over. The seat is flimsy, gives you the feeling your going to flip over bakwards. There is nowhere to secure the backpack frame after putting the boat together, no where to store gear and there is no holders for fishing poles. I would not recommend investing in this product."

Fly fishing pontoon boat, August 17, 2009
    By flyfishtexas from Texas

"Pros: Boat is great. Fairly straight forward to assemble... Provides great access to previously unfishable areas. Easy to manuever.

Cons: Pump is junk. The pump blows more air out the side (leaks) than into the pontoons. Not sure if it is a dud or just poor quality.

backpacker pontoon boat, August 3, 2009
    By OregonOregon

"Three solid seasons with this boat. This is just a step up from a float tube anyone who thinks it is a full size/use pontoon boat isn't paying attention.

First off ditch the back pack this is a pontoon boat that fits nicely into a large duffel bag. I have it all in one duffel. Waders, fly rod, fins, all the gear, I grab the duffel toss it in the trunk and I am off to my favorite lake.

The valve issue was solved by going to the farm/hardware store and buying a couple of tire tube valve stems($2.00). tapped a threaded hole in the middle of the valve, threaded the stem in applied a little epoxy to give it a great seal. Now I fill the pontoons with a battery operated air pump and carry a cheap wally world bike pump while I am out on the lakes. (cold water will cause a pontoon to lose volume. (warm air expands - cold air constricts)

This is a nice step up from my float tubes as I can get to the far end of the lake with the oars and then get around using my fins. Many a place it was 30-40 minutes to float tube over to is now a quick 10 minute row.

"Nothing was left out on this float.
Rugged, stable, and plenty of places to pack things away.
Easy to row forward and backward. add a rope and then a rock for an anchor when you hike to your location and you have the perfect fishing platform for fishing.
It also packs up easy and fast when done for the day.
    a great buy

Arrow Backpacker Pontoon, July 14, 2009
    By PaulAnthony

"I like the concept but it was too good to be true. Boat did actually
fit in backpack but there was no mention of life vest that would be necessary as well. One valve on boat leaked from onset. The pump to inflate boat did not look like it would hold up over a period of time. Poor quality. Boat itself hard to manuver in water even with use of 2 hands. Best used in complete still setting. Boat is priced right but not practical unless you skip your gym workout and need exercise. Quality of some components poor. Had no choice but to return.

looks are about it for this project,, March 9, 2009
    By fishingmountainman

"upon following specific directions on assembly & inflating instructions I was very dissapointed to find out it would not even hold air in the garbage bag liners. The instrution manual said if it leaks air its probably the valves and to order new ones. none of the tube frame pin holes lined up either. oops thats three strikes and this one goes back in the bag. I have never been so livid since I spent all night assembling my childrens swing set. This is the first time I have ever had to return anything to cabelas though, and I am surprised they even carry the things. They are a top notch company & I am hoping

..........that I will recieve a prompt refund.

    Bad valves, March 8, 2009
    By daisydo from Bend, Oregon

"I've owned the Arrow backpacker for about 2 years. The cheap values broke the first time I used it and I should have returned it at that time. Every time I use it I struggle with getting enough air in the pontoons as it leaks out before I can shut the valve caps. All they had to do was use Boston values and this wouldn't be a problem. Too heavy to pack very far, and difficult to repack after use. Works okay if you can get enough air in it."

The best buying expierence ever!!!! A+, October 15, 2008
By Mark123456 from new york NY

"It's to bad this web site only has five stars to give. I would have given this transaction a ten!!!!
Everything from the price shipping and customer service was top quality.
The classic accessories backpacker is an amazing boot.
It also gets going pretty fast, it works best when its 100% inflated. Under inflating would put your feet in the water and cause a lot of drag.
The staff at Classic Accessories are amazing!!!
the second time out with the boot i lost all the bolts that hold the boot together.
I called up Classic Accessories and they said that since it was still under warranty i will be sent a new set for free!!!! even though it was my fault!!!!
Will definitely buy Classic accessories products again.

Good pontoon boat, September 17, 2008
By MaraR from Lake Tahoe, CA

"I saw this pontoon boat and had to get it. The selling factor was that it came in a backpack and you could take it anywhere.
There are a couple problems I have encountered with this boat. The first one is that the oars are really cheap. I looked into buying better quality oars, but was not willing to spend half the price of the boat on them. They bent with the slightest bump. Also, the oars are really difficult to put together after the first time because the inner support layer moves and blocks the hole they lock in to. I exchanged the first one and had no problems returning it and getting another one.
My husband really liked the pontoon boat to go fishing so when I exchanged the first one, I got another one as well. One of the second pontoon boats the valve broke after the first use. We didn't realize it until we took it out a second time and had to hope it would hold air. To our surprise it did hold the air, but I will exchange this one as well. If something goes wrong again, three strikes and this pontoon boat is out.
All in all...it is a really good, fair priced, take anywhere, do anything with, pontoon boat. There are a few things on it that could have been made better by the manufacture. Like I said, I'm going to give it another try.

    Arrow Pontoon, June 29, 2008
    By DBarry from Western Colorado

"While the instructions and backpack are great, the fit was not easy on the rear platform frame. I had to drill out the existing holes to make it fit correctly. Also it took a long time to inflate the pontoons with the footpump. A bigger pump would decrease the inflation time. The stops on the oars moved when rowing hard on big water but on smaller waters which the boat was made for, the oars worked fine."

sending it back, June 17, 2008
    By georgiaoutdoors

"I bought this Pontoon and took it out for the first time this past weekend. While I had it out it was a great little boat, easy to put together, comfortable to ride on, easy to navigate. I did notice that one of the seams on the pontoon was coming undone but didn't think anything of it as I knew I could fix it later. Only frustrating thing while I was on the river was the oar holder do not stay in place so they are constantly sliding up the oar making it hard to paddle in rough water.
We let it sit assembled over night to take it out the next day. when we got ready I noticed that all the pins and all the joints where the frame comes together were getting rusty. not something you want to happen to something that is made for the water.
I am sending it back and going to save up for a model that has a little meatier frame as I don't need to ever backpack it in anywhere. If I was going to use it as a model to backpack in and was willing to go through the time to recoat everything so it doesn't rust It would be a great boat.
