    Lowrance ifinder Hunt C, September 21, 2009
    By papi101 from NH

"Nice Unit, the only complaint I have is it wasn't even close to accurate when I took it out of the box. I physically marked a location that I could see .6 miles away and told it to navigate and it lead me about .2 miles to the west. I did calibrate the compass so that wasn't the problem. I had to ship it back for them to work on but once working correctly I will love the unit. Definently check these things out before going in the woods with them!"

Lots of features, but..., September 20, 2009
    By nicholasp from Juneau, AK

"This GPS unit does NOT pick up a signal in the woods. I'm located in Southeast Alaska. I have also once had a problem getting a signal when I was at 1800 feet with no trees but stormy weather...not sure what that was due to, but it happened. Going to get the external antenna to see if that makes a difference, as I've got a lot money wrapped up between the maps and the gps unit.

Works great on the water though, and there are a ton of features....

Would NOT recommend this product to a friend who planned to use it for hunting in the woods. Utterly useless around here for that.

    Good unit, May 4, 2009
    By DanAck from Bismarck, ND

"The unit has been great. The only thing I don't like is that the regular brightness of the screen is extremely dim. I always have to hit the light button to just see the screen. Other than that, a great unit."

    Nice GPS, February 9, 2009
    By BigAllan from Midwestern Illinois

"My wife originally purchased the IFinder Hunt GPS (Black/White) version for me, but I quickly upgraded to the Hunt "C" for the Color TFT and later OS Software. I am very pleased in the difference between the two models! As mentioned in some of the other reviews, the two AA Batteries run out pretty quickly. That's the only reason I gave it a 4 star rating. The quality, durability, and many available mapping options that this GPS provide definitely require me to recommend it. I haven't purchased the Mapping software yet, but am planning on doing so soon so I can get even more detailed on my scouting/hunting excursions."

"no gmu's in WA, the batteries go really fast so pack some spares. the cover scratches very easy...I had read that in other reveiws so I purchaced a clear cover that will peal off and replace (twice allready). the unit is easy to navigate, even in the dark. Im sure some units are better and some are worse. I do like this one hopeing for more maps."

    Unsatisfied, October 23, 2008
    By Wyominggirl from Torrington, Wyoming

"I read all about the I Finder Hunt C and thought it would be a good choice for a replacement for the model I have been using. (Old Garmin GPS 12) I was looking forward to having TOPO maps and finding my place on the paper map I carry. I put the Ifinder Hunt C on my wish list and my wife was nice enough to buy me a present for this hunting season. She also got me the instruction DVD. I read through the entire manual, (thick as a dictionary) and viewed the DVD. I have had 8 years of using GPS technology and the DVD was gauged to someone who has never used one. This is how you mark a waypoint... this is how you navagate back to it...etc. After reading and viewing I plugged in the batteries and away I went. This unit is completely un-user friendly. When I would mark a waypoint then move the "cursor" to another part of the world, it would not locate where I was on the screen when I would start moving again. It stayed where I had the cursor. The only way to get back to the screen where I was located was to know where you were in reference to where the cursor was. Try to find where your waypoints are stored. I couldn't. There is no category for "My Waypoints" or something close. You could use the go to command and it will tell you how far it is away but just to look at a list is not an option. If you turn it off and turn it on somewhere else, it tells you your position has been acquired but the map page shows where you last had the cursor, not your current location. I'm going back to a Garmin product. I would definitely not waste my money on this product!!!"

    A hunter's dream GPS, October 3, 2008
    By TheOutdoorDad from Portland, OR

"This is my 5th GPS and by far my favorite! It is the ONLY dedicated to the sportsman with special icons and even a way to log your scouting trips and has all the hunting unit boundaries in the mapping software (I don't think any other software has that feature either)

I am not easy on things and don't baby them. So far this GPS has not let me down. The mapping software has kept me legally on the correct side of my hunting unit's boundary when I was out near the edge between two hunting units.

Recently, I went to the manufacturer's website to get software updates and found they have a free download which lets you put geocache info into this GPS for paperless geocaching! SO now we can use it even more outside of the hunting season, too!

We have used it several times on various outings to find the nearest convenience stores. That was a very nice feature when trying to find some good coffee in an area you don't know.

I bought the Marine chip so I could use the iFINDER HUNT-C when out in the boat fishing. We found some structure out in the bay that we would not have without this GPS.

The storm alert gave us enough warning to get back to camp before a heavy rain storm came rolling through - which would have ruined out camp-out.

It has a large easy to read screen and sips on two AA batteries so going on long camping/hunting/fishing trips are a breeze.

    Perfect Performance, August 11, 2008
    By RBA65 from South Jersey

"I bought the Lowrance brand GPS because it was the only one available that I could purchase HD maps for the area I was going. I can't say enough about the performance. It worked out great for me and I only had 3 days to learn how to operate it. So the learning curve was easy. Though I did purchase the DVD to make it easier but after playing with the unit off and on for a couple of days it became self-explanatory. I would recommend this to anyone. Great unit."

    Hunt C with MapCreate 7, May 11, 2008
    By BillinLa from Louisiana

"I just bought the ifinder Hunt C and Mapcreate 7 software. We had a very hard time loading it on our version of op. system. Rules say I cannot mention other names, so we finally did get it loaded on our op. system. It is the latest popular op system. Starts with a V. Anyway, you have to go to Lowrance site and get the special download AND follow the tips exactly. It is very complicated and you will need a very experienced I.T.person to do it. ONCE we got it, I made some very impressive maps. The unit itself is great. Everything everyone else said and more. THIS is the most important review comment : IF YOU purchase this, thinking that you will have gps duplicates of USGS 1:24000 maps, you WILL NOT. The maps are very useful, especially once you put some waypoints in it. They will help you figure out deer patterns, but they WILL NOT have all the exact detail of official USGS 7.5 min. paper maps. These two components are great for the serious woodsman and deer scouter, the individual who strays away from the crowds and figures out deer movement patterns. I would buy again almost with out thought."

Lowrance iFinder Hunt C GPS, April 29, 2008
    By OhioKevin from Ohio

"Great GPS. Very easy to use with more functions than you will ever need. Base map included with this unit is not very detailed. I purchased a Lowrance Hot Maps Pro Card and it has great detail for lakes and land. When testing its accuracy over other handhelds I have, the Lowrance will place me within 2 feet of a marked point even though its accuracy meter says its within 15 feet. My other handhelds will state the accuracy is within 15 feet and they will omly put me within 8 feet of a marked point. Would suggest to anyone wanting an easy to use portable unit with capabilities of much larger fixed mount GPS units."

"works great, got me back to my truck w/ ease. like the color screen and the map create 7. alittle hard to get used to at first but after a day or two of use its pretty simple to navigate the menu and other features. i got a good signal all the time i was in the shawnee national forest, the real test will be this summer when the tree canopys are full. it picks up signals pretty fast , the only signal problem i had was in my truck, sometimes the signal would go in and out but not to much. it does chew up batteries quick so i am going to get some rechargables. the only thing i really dont like is the light stays on for a very short period of time."

"The GPS part of the unit works great. The features are also great. The things that need improvement are:
    1. It is difficult to see in bright daylight. The color unit is easier to see than the black & white unit (I have both) but you still need to be in shade to see it.
    2. The monitor window is made of plastic and scratches very very easily. This was a serious problem as I was hunting on a horse on trails and it was dusty. Just a few scratches and the window is very hard to see. I recommend getting an iPod cover and putting it on the iHunt to protect the window. I called Lowrance about this bu they didn't seem to care about the problem. It would be better if the window was made of glass.
    3. The information pop-up feature does not turn off. For example, if I moved the cursor "Arapahoe National Forest" popped up in the middle of the window blocking the map. There is a menu feature that is supposed to turn this off but it doesn't work. Lowrance should have the pop up information appear on the edge of the window so it doesn't block the map. After finally getting through to customer service, they said they would fix the menu problem.
    4. Contacting Lowrance customer service is very difficult. I e-mailed them with a question three weeks ago and still haven't heard back. Calling them on the phone usually means waiting on hold for about 20 minutes.

    iFinder Hunt C, January 7, 2008
    By magician from PortTownsend, Wa.

"If you like to hunt deep into the back country without worrying about getting lost, this unit is perfect. On a recent Elk hunting trip in deep snow, we were able to bring up the map of our area and pick routes that saved us miles of hiking. The confidence we gained by knowing exactly where we were at all times helped us pursue elk longer than we would of ever thought of doing before. We have other fish finders/GPS units by Lowrance and this made operation of this handheld very easy to understand. Battery life was good, especially if turned off when not really needed. I was getting up to four days of all day hunting on mine, operating in this manner. The color display is the only way to go! Reading map locations and your trail is much easier in color. Spend a little extra and get the color!"

Hard to get accessories, September 26, 2007
    By lostincanton from Canton, GA

"This basic unit works OK . If I just wanted a basic unit I would have bought another GPS . I bought this one because of the accessories .
Freedom Maps the software for this brand was back ordered and a black holster (not a blue holster) for this camo GPS unit is not available . I would have liked the software before dear season . If Cabela's doesn't have the accessories you want , buy another brand GPS .
