Disappointed.....at first.,February 25, 2009
By MMiedemafrom Fife Lake, MI
"At first I was really disappointed. I took them out of the box, ran outside and put them on. We had about 2 foot of powder on the ground and I sank in to my knees. It was harder walking with the snow shoes on than with out. I also encountered the issue of the snow flying up my back every time I took a step. It was being flung up from the back of the snow shoe.
The next day I talked to a few friends that go snow shoeing a lot and asked them about it. Turns out, there are two basic styles of snow shoes. Trail shoes and off trail shoes. Almost all of the new style “small aluminum” snow shoes are trail shoes.
Think pounds per square inch. The larger the snow shoe, the fewer pounds per square inch is going to be on the snow, thus more floatation, and less sinking.
My friends also advised me on the proper way to walk with snow shoes. You want to keep your toes pointed up, to keep the front of the shoe on top of the snow, while slightly dragging your heal with each step.
The next day I took the shoes out again, this time it had warmed up a little and the snow wasn’t powder and more. The snow shoes performed exactly the way they were intended! I walked effortlessly for hours, and by dragging my heals slightly, no snow hit above my ankles.
My friends also informed me that people who snow shoe “off trail” in deep powder, often have a second pair of large snow shoes just for that purpose.
If you intend to use them on packed snow or trails, you will not be disappointed in this shoe. They are very easy to put on and off, and are light weight for all day walking."

Nice snowshoes,April 24, 2008
By SconiPudfrom WI
"I bought a pair of these for my wife based on some of the reviews I read. I bought the Alaskan Guide ones for myself. She is a beginner like myself and really enjoyed the shoes. Easy to walk in, get in and out of, and we had a blast. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is they tend to fling snow up your back when you walk. The shoes I got simply drag on the snow as you walk. The binding on these snap the shoe back up to your feet as you lift to take a step, similar to walking in flip flops. I noticed snow flying behind her when she walked where I had no problem because the back of my snowshoes just drags on the snow. In very light, fluffy snow, this could lead to some snow down your back."

Redfeather Assault Snowshoes,March 17, 2008
By hiker62from Grand Rapids, MI
"Overall a great product. Durable, but very light weight so they are great snowshoes for hours of use. I had never snowshoed before and these were a breeze to use. Great traction going up and down snow and ice covered sand dunes along Lake Michigan."

FUN!,March 11, 2008
By geasherfrom hermiston, oregon
"Wanted snowshoes for some time, found these at Cabela's in Boise and used them the next day. recommend snowshoeing for anyone. I am 63 my wife is 61 and it was a kick in the rear. We went through snow that we couldn't have with out them. We like the open cougar country and had a canyon we just had to go down and come back out of. Totally fun. Only thing, I wish I had purchased the shorter narrow ones for my wife but they didn't have any. For No Country for Old People, this is totally FUN! We were on some pretty steep mountains too and found them great!"
