"Take the time to load your sled properly and you will be amazed at how easy it is to drag your harvested game out of the hills. Last season the most calls over the radio were" where are you? Can you bring your sled" This season most of the guys had bought their own."

Deer Sled,November 18, 2009
By TB1980from Corvallis, Oregon
"The majority of my hunting is done behind locked gates, but ones that have easy road access to many different areas.
What I found out were the following. The strap that comes with the sled is way too long. 14ft to be exact. So I had to make a loop in the middle to bring up a lot of the slack. They recommended that you put the strap over your shoulders, but I found that around my waist, I had more leverage and easier time pulling on the sled.
For the first 1/4 of a mile over the gravel, it worked great. Going down hill, the sled would actually slid on its own and at times make me walk much faster just to keep some control on it. At about 1/4 mile, the sled developed a volleyball size hole in the bottom. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until I got to about 1 mile. The hole in the bottom of the sled just acted like a cheese grater for the gravel and I ended up dragging a lot of weight in "gravel". Additionally, I had taken great care when field dressing the deer to keep it clean. Once the hole appeared in the sled, a lot of gravel, needles, and other debris ended up around the cavity and made it pretty dirty in places.
So in review, I wouldn't buy one of these, unless you are specifically going to pull it over the snow. Over snow, it would work GREAT!!! But over a gravel road, it just didn't hold up."

Dead Sled Good,October 26, 2009
By Brian3dfrom Casper, WY
"We bagged a buck antelope and dragged it just under half a mile to the truck. About a third of the trip was dirt interspersed with one to two inch rock-the remainder was grass. The sled performed well and suffered only modest scratching due to the rocks. From this first use, I would expect at least four to five seasons use before the sled wears out.
The Dead Sled came in a compact package and surprisingly, repacked to the same volume after its job was done. The sled came with a multi-use tether which is used for pulling the game and sled along. The tether's length was quite sufficient for what I considered to be a good pulling angle but I did take it to a local fabricator of boat covers and (for a very modest fee) had a second hand-hold stitched onto the pulling end to make it easier for two folks to share the pulling strain without scrunching their hands together.
I found the Dead Sled to be very much worth its purchase price."

Dead sled,October 22, 2009
By Odwinfrom Fort Collins, Co
"Okay...The dead sled works great. In Colorado the best public hunting is far from the road. I boned out a large mule deer last weekend, put the meat in canvas bags, and "Dead Sledded" the meat over a mile back to my truck. Last year I hauled the meat out on my back, and it took two trips. The dead sled made the job MUCH easier. I hunted with it rolled up in my back pack...It doesn't weigh much at all. I was able to load it up and hike out everything in one trip. I gave it 4 stars only because there were a couple of spots where the rocks wore through. I only used the front half of the sled. Next time I'll use the back. Even if I only get two drags out of it, the Dead Sled gets thumbs up from me because it's inexpensive. I'm on here to buy another one. I'll need two for a boned out elk...One for me to drag, and the other for my hunting buddy. Good luck out there!"

It works,October 17, 2009
By jpbikerfreakfrom Bella Vista, Arkansas
"It works, but you had better be in good shape! I drug a medium sized buck about 100 yards with this. Note that you MUST tie the tether around the animals neck, not the tab in the sled or it will probably break, as happened to another reviewer. This is a bare minimum in hauling your game. It will protect the hide, and helps diminish ground friction somewhat, but (as noted by other reviewers), the deer will lay on its side not its back, so it's not quite as neat and clean as it seems from the pic. If you don't want to spend the $$$ on a game cart (or ATV), and you're in good shape, or if this is all you can take into the woods, go for it."

Dead Sled,December 15, 2008
By reefghostfrom MA
"I love this thing. It glides over everything and right thru the thickest briars without a hitch. Easily cuts the weight in half if not more. First time I used it I kept looking to see if the deer was still on there. I prefer the deer to be on its side and fold the legs in before you strap it down, then use the tag ends of the straps to secure the legs in also. I have not had any "brittle" problems in the cold. Maybe that user just got a bum sled. I would highly reccomend this and there is no problem carrying this in to your stand."

It works, for what it is designed for.,December 14, 2008
By Caverbfrom Colorado
"I have used this sled to haul out about half a dozen Antelope, and one quartered out Elk. You can't use in if there it too much relief, especially if you are going up a steep hill for any great distance, although downhill can be tricky as well. The longest drag was about a mile, mostly flat or downhill in snow (good thing too - that was the Elk!) It pays to get one or two more straps to wrap up your carcass with to keep limbs from dragging. It pays to arrange your game the way it looks in the diagram, and make sure that you are not hauling on the sled itself (the haul strap has to be looped around the neck of the animal, or around a good sized quarter). The picture above shows the Deer on it's back, and as you can imagine this will not work. You have to put the animal on it's side, and use another strap or game bags to pull the limbs in tight. The coldest weather I used it in was about 18 - 20 degrees, and it worked just fine. Elk hunters I have talked to say you can get one good drag with an elk, and maybe two to four for a Mulie."

Don't Use in Cold Weather,December 8, 2008
By PikeCountyHunterfrom Godfrey, IL
"My first and only experieince using this product was on a 20 degree December day in Illinois. It failed miserably.....2 of the plastic tabs used to hold the tie down straps snapped off after dragging a medium sized doe 20 feet. The plastic was very brittle. It would be a great product to use in warm or moderate temps, but if you'd planning on using this for hauling out game in the frigid weather, it would be best to consider other options."

Dead Sled,December 6, 2008
By Rooster424from Saint Jo, TX
"A friend and I hauled out 6 good size deer this season (140 lbs. to 200 lbs) on this sled. It does need a little reinforcement where the straps loop through and it would be nice if the pull strap had some type of shoulder harness. Make sure you get a good game bag if you plan on gutting your animal before you drag it out, if not it will have quite a bit of dirt and grass inside your animal. All in all it is a great product for the price."

Give'm a ride on the Dead Sled,December 1, 2008
By RME1from Buffalo, NY
"I ordered the Dead Sled for long drags from a wilderness area we hunt in the Adirondack Park. Works like a charm! Cuts down on the friction you'd normally have when dragging a whitetail. Makes the job of getting the animal out much more tolerable. Light weight and easy carry on a pack."

Dead Sled,November 19, 2008
By MSDGfrom Michigan
"I have pulled three animals out using this just this fall. I pulled a Wyoming antilope about a mile and a half, down and up three washes and over sage covered hills. I pulled a lage Wyoming whitetail out of a river bottom and I pulled a Mich. whitetail down a chained off two track for aprox. two and a half miles. The straps provided make it easy to secure the animal to the sled, and the sled slides readily along on all surfaces. I will no longer go hunting without taking this along. It is light enough and small enough to carry with very little problem."

"This is my third dead sled I have purchased and it makes dragging a harvested deer from the mountains an easy task and I am fifty. They do not last forever, rocks and stumps can damage the bottom but using the old one and a special glue the second one still lives. I use the dead sled in the Hunter Ed classes in the game care section. The carrying bag rates a 1. Ride anything hard and it will not last. Will purchase the large sled for my next elk hunt."

Dead Sled works great,November 4, 2008
By Gobofrom Augusta, GA
"I have used a Dead Sled to drag deer, a bear, wild hogs and a moose out of the woods(with help)-and I'm disabled!! The Dead Sled is a big improvement over the Deer Sleigh'r. Much easier to use the straps to secure the animal as opposed to trying to lace the cords, especially at night or in bad weather. Most of my friends and relatives have Dead Sleds and make use of them. They also use them to drag firewood/short logs out and they work just fine for that purpose also. Very rugged and can handle just about any surface material."

Well worth the price.,October 30, 2008
By TroyGfrom West Jordan, Utah
"I would highly recommend this for hunters whom hunt remote areas where you will be dragging your deer either with or without help. I hunt a remote area with rough terrain. Mostly rocks deadfall thorny brush. This season we say little snow and by the time the deer hunt was on warm weather that left the terrain bone dry. Typically unless you skin and quarter in the field and or totally wasted hide by the time you drag out. With the dead sled I was able to drag a mile back out to the road without as much as a scratch to the hide. The drag however was fairly damaged but served its purpose well. The deer slide along as if I was dragging in the snow. No antlers tangling up and or body hanging up on the logs rocks and or bushes. Well worth the 5 or less pounds attached to your day pack or by itself. My buddies teased me about packing the thing around the whole hunt until we drug one out with it. Next season all 10 of us will be carrying one."

Dead Weight,October 23, 2008
By jlloydf13from Duluth, MN
"Bought this sled hoping it would make easier work for 2 people over a couple hundred yards of average timber woods on level ground...nope. The sled kept twisting out from under the deer (a fairly large doe) so that the sled was on top of the deer. Once twisted it made it harder to drag. AFter trying 3 or 4 times to realign the straps etc we gave up and just dragged it like there was no sled. The sled kept catching on the ground, tabs tore out. The best thing about the sled was that after we took it off, it seemed much easier to drag to drag the deer. Get a cart. This is a hassle to hook up and a hindrince to use."
