    "Works great and you do not have to struggle to maintain the correct temperature. Set the time and temp and all you have to do is decide how much smoke flavor you want. The only thing is the exterior coating is rusting and "bubbling up". I had tried to use a charcoal fired smoker and the temp was either too cold or too hot. I would recommend this smoker to anyone that prefers "easy to use"."

    "Received one of these smokers for Christmas last year (2008). So far, so good. They are not a high end smoker, but are a good, versatile unit for the price, especially when they are on sale. I've smoked fish, beef and venison jerky, and quail; with good results for everything, with the exception of one batch of smoked trout (see below). My only complaint is that the owner's manual is almost worthless. There are no instructions on how to set the damper for the food you are smoking, and some of the recipes contain erroneous info. For instance, the smoked trout recipe recommends setting the unit at 225 degrees, which I did against my better judgement, and the trout came out dry and rock hard. The only bad experience, but I should have known better. For properly smoked fish, you should bring the temp up gradually, start at 100 degrees, and increase about 20 degrees every hour up to 160 or so. This may vary depending upon the thickness of the fish. Otherwise, I'm very satisfied with this smoker."

    "I had decided to purchase this smoker and my father said to get the stainless steel version, it will be well worth it, and it is! I have smoked 5 loads of jerky with various wood chips like cherry, apple, mesquite and hickory with fantastic results. I have used charcoal and gas smokers before, but this electric one is by far the easiest to use and clean up that I have ever had. The door seal is tight and the temperature control works well. AS WITH ANY SMOKER, it is impossible to maintain a +- 5 deg difference, but It has done everything to perfection with minimal supervision. I highly recommend the stainless steel version because it is so easy to clean. I also love the "jerky" racks which eliminate the necessity to purchase jerky overlays for your rack. It does strips as well as extruded jerky with equal ease."

    "I have had this smoker for about a month and have done pulled pork, deer backstrap, and salmon and all have turned out great. Very easy to use, temp stays consistant, and did I mention very easy to use. This is not a super heavy duty smoker, but is put together very well, very easy to clean. Would recommend to anyone who likes to smoke for personal use."

    "This is a good smoker for the price. The only problem I have is too wide of a temperature span from the setting.
    As for the pro's, I like the chip dumper it has. The chips last/smoke for a long time. The door has a good seal.
    Works great for making jerky and will do a ham in it soon.

    "This smoker is fabulous. I have used it about 10 times in the last 6 weeks and have had no problems. It is easy to clean and gets up to tempature in a hurry. I have been using it outside in about 50 degree weather and it works great.

    It is easy to clean and I recomend wiping down the seal every time you use it. I read other reviews about the seal leaking, but I have been using smokers for years and non of them seal 100 percent and you are always going to get leakage especially if you keep the top vent shut all the way.

    The grills and drip pans clean very easy. I often just let them soak in hot soapy water for about 10-15 minutes and they shine right up. Inside wipes down with a wet sponge.

    Highly recommend it.

    "This was my first purchase of a smoker. An uncle recommended going with an electric model to avoid the worries about running out of propane, so I did the research and found this model available from Cabela's. We've used it so far for salmon (twice), pork loin, pork ribs, and chicken. There is some fluctation in the temperature, as other reviewers have noted, but not more than 10 degrees. Everything we've prepared has turned out really well. The pork loin in particular was really, really good - like so good you lose your train of thought once it hits the taste buds. The only other thing I've noted is the black powder coat coming off along the inside seam after a few cleanings. Not a big deal, though. We'll be trying it out with some pheasant this fall. All in all it has worked very well and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else considering an electric smoker. One tip on the cooking racks: after doing salmon the first time, it occurred to us to spay a little olive oil or non-stick cooking spray on the rack to prevent the fish from sticking and that helped."

    Excellent BUT with limitations, September 17, 2009

    "I've been using this smoker for going on 3 years now and am on my 3rd one. The 1st one was the std model but after a few uses I sold it to a friend because it wasnt large enough for me. I purchased the larger version because often when I smoke I do quantity and vacumm seal it and freeze it. The smoker does an excellent job, and if you experiment with different recipes and methods can do some outstanding things with it. The BUT I mention in the title has to do with its durability. The unit features a NON replaceable heating element, which basically means when it goes out either throw it away and buy a new unit or they will sell you a new box with element (minus the door, controls, racks ect for almost $200. I said above Im on my third one, lucky for me when my element went out I was just weeks from being out of the 1 year warranty, and Masterbuilt did the right thing and replaced the smoker at no charge. I do think they need to look into a replaceable heating element, as I've seen many post of various smoker sites about the complaint of it going bad and having no option to replace the element as you can in most other brands. If your not going to use it more than once a month for a couple hours it may last forever. The last thing is keep it inside till you use it, its not very well sealed around the back and controls from the elements. I had a custom waterproof cover just made for mine so I can keep it outside on the deck next to the grill."

    "I have used this smoker twice now, and it has been great! No more burning the outside, and raw in the middle. This thing is as easy as possible. My wife now asks me to get the smoker going, instead of griping that I'll be out there all day, only to ruin some good meat. Buy it, you'll like it!"

    "Great item especially for the money and very portable. Temp control and timer is easy to set and maintains temp well. After seasoning cycle made some GREAT smoked fish first time ever! Only possible drawback is having to re-load wood chip tray if it is a long slow smoke otherwise the timer will auto off. I am very happy so far it fits my needs well."

    "I have had two Masterbuilt smokers purchased through Cabelas. Within the first year the first one caught on fire inside of the firewalls and melted everything. I took it back to Cabelas and they replaced it with another one.(as always) I have used the second one for almost two years and the control has failed on it. I love this smoker when it is working but cant afford to buy one every year or two. I see that previous posters were told to keep the controls out of weather extremes but I don't see that warning in the owner's manual. With this is mind I would recommend the smoker with conditions."

    "I love this smoker. As the matter of a fact I told my wife if she leaves me she can have the house, my truck and even my boat but please don't take my smoker. It is so easy to use and the food is excellent. I would recommend this smoker if you are into easy cooking and good food. If you want to do it the hard way then have fun."

    "I purchased a Masterbuilt digital electric smoker at Cabelas retail store in Wheeling WV. and have had great success with it especially on ribs and brisket among my other favorite foods.
    Last Sunday as I started to use it, I found that it had a malfunction, so on Monday, I called Masterbuilts friendly Customer Service and unexpectedly by Thursday the new part had arrived and I am able to smoke my favorite foods with it again within a few days.
    I cannot think of any company that has better customer service than Masterbuilt.The unit smokes food to perfection! I also have observed other brands of smokers in use and find that my Masterbuilt is the easiest and most consistent to use. I would absolutely recommend this brand to anyone and have recommended it to my friends and aquaintences. Thank You Cabelas and Masterbuilt!!!

    "I had a smoker made by another company that used biscuits that were expensive compared to the bags of chips you can buy at grocery stores and others. I love the way you can load wood chips into the Masterbuilt. The only issue I've had so far is the temperature doesn't coincide with my previous smoker.
    This smoker is about 20 degrees cooler than my other one.
    I love the digital control for time and temp, makes it a lot easier to get to and keep the temp you're looking for.
