THE pack,December 14, 2008
By muleyarcherfrom Boise, Idaho
"If you take part in multi-day hunting trips deep in the backcountry, then you must have this pack! It really is the best design out there. First off, it's really light for it's capacity. Other large volume hunting packs out there have some good features, but they're too heavy before you've put a single piece of gear in them. One of this pack's best features is the comfort. The adjustable suspension torso length allows it to fit everyone perfectly. When you're in deep for days on end in rough country, the fit is CRUCIAL! Also, all of the pockets are well thought out, allowing access to things you need right now, especially the padded scope pocket (my compact leupold spotter AND tripod fit in it). This thing is incredibly waterproof, even without the included raincover. Further, this pack is very roomy. It will literally carry more than you want to carry. Initially, I thought I wouldn't like the fabric, too noisy. But, after several trips, I have noticed that because of the narrow profile, it really doesn't snag much. On top of that, other pack's "quiet" fabrics either are stiff for toughness, or, for water-resistance, have a nylon backing anyway, which technically makes them just as noisy in the brush. Great product. Great design. Great Quality. Period."
"I think this pack could have some good aplications. It just didn't work for mine. I used it while hunting in some extremely steep terain the last two seasons. I found it a little too heavy and awkward. Balancing the load is difficult. It sloshes around no matter how much you tighten the straps. The hood is just poorly designed. I suppose it would be worth it on the return trip full of meat. This year I'm gonna try using a regular frame pack and just tie on what I need."

"I used this pack on an Alaskan moose hunt. It worked fine. The only problem I had was the opening was quite big enough to get a hind quarter in the pack."
Not For Me,January 24, 2008

"I normally like all Cabela's products as I have many. This pack did not fit me correctly. When transporting a moderate load it flopped around with compartments continually moving. I am 5'8" with a 40" waist and with several layers of clothing for extreme weather the waist belt did not fit. The belt is to small and requires you to purchase an extention. There are plenty of storage compartments but with the few times I used it it was not user friendly. If I had taken a coursre on setting up this pack or received DVD on using it that would of helped. During my first time I used it in Pa. whitetail season 2007 it remained dry for approximately 11/2 hours but began to leak after that, although it was an allday heavy rain and everthing I had with me became wet."
Extreme Hunter Backpack,September 22, 2007

"Backpack is quite and has great placement of pockets and storage compartments. Camo fabric is great too. Read some comments on the pack not being quite enough.... no pack this large will be absolutely silent. Definitely as quiet as anything else available in this size range.
Did not like how the backpack held weight. Considering this is a hunting pack, there will be times when you want to load it to the brim with meat and gear, and the frame and support of this pack just isn't up to the job. If you're only planning on hauling gear in this pack, then it should be fine."
Great for the money!,November 21, 2006
By Filipfrom Vail, CO
"This pack is very spacious. Which could be a double edged sword considering how much meat and equipment you can put in it. I loved the upper and lower entry compartments. This was a bonus because it did not require emptying out your whole bag to get to one item that you may have needed right then. The pack it self is very light, and the harness is quite comfortable. Especially around the waist. The shoulders tend to get sore much faster, but when it is full of meat i don't mind so much. The only thing that bothered me was when i put my camel system in the compartment provided it would throw my bag and weight off balance to one side. Overall for the money this is a great pack."
Cabela's Ultralight Extreme Hunter 5000,November 21, 2006
By Windbeam2from New York State, Adirondack Region.
"For the last few years, a friend and I back pack into the Adirondack backcountry for a week of deer hunting. Most of the advice we were given was centered around wall tents and portable wood stoves. Although enticing, we wanted to have the flexibility of picking up camp and relocating if the conditions warranted. My original pack was rated for 5300 cubic inches and faired well. Until last season when my zippers all blew out. While shopping at the Cabela's Harrisburg, I saw the Ultralight Extreme Hunter and knew right away it was what I needed. My initial thought was 5000 ci was too small. What I found was it was more like 5300. This pack has several pockets that enable you to pack your smaller items such as camp stove, cookware etc. These pockets are not sewn onto the bag but on plastic hinges. This allows for your pack to expand without the restriction of the loaded side pockets. I was able to pack 5 days worth of clothes and gear without any problem at all. Once packed and loaded on my shoulders, the various straps allowed me to make the right adjustments and immediately this pack fit me right away. At a full 60 pds, I never knew I was carrying a pack. My favorite feature is the rifle scabbard. I covered my rifle with a gun sock and attached it right to the bag. It kept my stock free of scratches and allowed for a hands free hiking. This pack is a definite in my book and it looks like my buddy will have the same one next season."
