Very poor quality crosshair,April 10, 2009

"This scope has the worse cross-hair I have ever seen after 45 years of shooting! I tried to set up this scope at a 200yrd range this morning and as I adjusted the parallax for a clear picture "which was very clear" the cross hair itself became fuzzier the clearer I adjusted the parallax. I have other parallax adjustable scopes but don't have this problem with any of them. I also have very good vision for a man my age and can shoot long range without a scope or with a scope of normally good quality. Also the parallax adjustment knob had to be set to infinity to see clearly at only 200yrds. I tried to remove the set screws and remove the parallax adjustment knob to set it to the correct setting for range but it didn't want to budge. This scope will go back to the factory! A wasted effort!"

"Good points first: Scope appears to be built very solid, all knobs are easy to access and side focus works well. Optics very good at lower power ranges. Loved the illuminated reticle. Mounts worked well. Bad points: At high power range, eye relief very critical, I know this is faily common on high power scopes, but was very hard to get full clarity above 24x. Biggest concern was holding zero thru power adjustment, did not have a bore site, started at short range and adjusted until close to center. Moved to 100 yards, increased power from 10 to 24, shot three rounds and didn't hit target anywhere. Started over, (thinking maybe I was in a hurry and wasn't zeroed close enough) moved short (30 yards), shot until I had small group in bullseye, moved to 100 yards increased power with same result, not one hit on target anywhere. Conclusion was reticle not stayng centered when moved from low power to high. Returned Scope for refund. If not for this problem, for the price, believe scope would have worked OK."

"By far the worst scope I’ve ever owned. The FOV is terrible at any distance and the only time I was able to actually see a target was on cloudy days. Any sunshine reduces sight by 95%. Don’t waste the money, get a Leupold!"

"I saw ,I bought,then the trouble started.The scope was mounted on a .338 and I had read the reviews on the website. The first day at the range on the 2nd shot I saw free-floating debris on the crosshairs. I double checked all adjustments and never could get any sort of patterning. I was shooting off my lead sled at the range with no wind. The previous scope that was on the gun was also a lower priced scope -but on its worse day it was better than this scope. It just goes to show -you get what you pay for."

"The scope is a good quality scope and mounting is easy. only problem i have is the vertical adjustment is almost maxed out to one side and i haven't had a chance to zero it in on a target yet. If it isn't on when i shoot it i may have to purchase diffferent mounting rings. A friend who shoots a lot wants to buy one for one of his guns"

"I purchased this scope being somewhat skeptical. I am very pleased with the purchase. The scope is clear to about 18 power, and adaquate to 24 power. Its turrets are precise, repeatable, and one can "reset zero" by simply unscrewing a single screw, rotating the turret to zero then putting the screw back in place. One other interesting feature, when you go from 6 to 12 then to 24 power, 12 is truely twice the magnification of 6, and 24 is twice that of 12. Most scopes I have used are only approximate in that regard. The side focus turret works well also. I mounted this scope on my 300 win mag. With my previous scope I held a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards. With this one, I am holding a 1/2 inch group. Only time will tell if the scope is truely water, fog and shock proof, but the quality so far is great. I can hardly wait till next moose, or griz season."

"I love the SWAT style MOA adjust, and this unit is a very nice addition to my 30-06 Ruger MkII. It's a beefy long scope, with the attached sun-shade, it's almost as long as my barrell. Looks like a perfect fit...except the following: #1) I needed to buy an adapter plate to attach it to my Ruger (The Barska is Picatinny rail type, Ruger uses Ruger type.)...maybe this is Ruger's fault, not Barska. #2) After approx 40 round (150 grain, Winchester), I noticed one tiny bit of lint could be seen inside the scope near the crosshairs. It was obviously on the inside, and would be in a different spot after each shot. (Mind you, this one piece of lint was TINY, and did not obscure the view through the scope.) #3) Barska says you can remove the knobs and turn them to "reset at zero", then secure the knobs back on. I assumed this meant I could zero the gun, then remove and set the knobs at 0.00. It sounds good, but Barska should explain you can only "reset" the knob around 1 full revolution, you will not be able to "reset" the knob to 0.00 if you have gone higher than 1.00.... in other words, you can "reset to zero" ONLY if your gun already is very very close to shooting perfect. That's my gripes so far.....I like the scope. Two days from now I feed it another 120 rounds of 30-06, I'm sure it will be fine."

"This scope has all the features of your $1500-2000 scopes with a MUCH more reasonable pricetag. The eye relief gets a little funky at the high end of the magnification, but the scope was extremely clear and VERY easy to make on the fly adjustments. Once I got it on the paper (it wasn't even boresighted), it was very easy to fine tune the adjustments. I was shooting .25" groups at 100 yds from an AR15 from a bench rest and from prone position with NO problems. Great scope!"

"I purchased the 6-24x SWAT scope. I was leary at first because of the name and all the features and accessories that came standard. But once I had it on my Savage 10 bull barrel. It really surprised me. It is heavy but that wasn't an issue with a bull barrel rifle anyway. The target knobs have reset to zero perfectly over the last 500 rounds. The rings have held without failure and the illuminated reticle works great. I am not saying it is in the same class as a MARK IV but since you can buy 4 of these for the same price its a steal of a bargain a scope. I do not reccommend using it at 24x because the glass is not up to snuff at its highest magnification. BUt form 6-16x its as good as glass costing 2x as much."

"This scope is great for the value. It can stand up to the harshest punishment. The mil dots give great range estimation and the turrets are phenominal. In response to Adam6773's review, the Turrets ARE adjustable by loosening the screws on the side of them, the turret can then be moved around back to zero. Anyone looking for great performance out of the box or a scope to start out on and then advance, I would recommend this one."

"The first 10-40X, 50 M objective I bought from Cabela had a very hard to turn spot on the windage knob that made it impossible to adjust windage.
I called Cabelas and they simply sent me a replacement scope (no expense to me) and asked that I return the defective scope to them!
The replacement scope is top-flight. Optically clear and it holds a sight setting. I am shooting an AR 15 20" A-4 varmint rifle from Rock River Arms and easily getting 1/2" groups at 100 yds. ( when I can figure out the wind and mirage). I think this rifle is capable or shooting 1/4" groups!
I am very pleased with Cabelas, Rock River and my SWAT scope!"

"I purchased the Barska SWAT 8-32x44 scope because it was a great price, no real expectation of quality. I like the big power scopes as they double as a spoting scope, making a lighter day pack when hunting hard going terrain. My first set of tests were on my 270 win Sako, honestly this scope is as good as any of the big brand scopes I have. So it mounted it on my 300 win mag Browning, to make use of the magnification, long range sniping of hares and foxes with these optics was so much fun and dead on accurate. It does let you down a little bit in low light, but i don't hunt or shoot at dusk. The IR is very handy, a tiny bit fuzzy on higher brighness settings, but hey it only cost a sixth of the price of an equivalent big brand unit. Tough as they come, I did the dreaded 3 foot drop test, as I did with my $1700 scope, held perfect zero. I've had $800 scopes fail this test, but if you do alot of mountain hunting like I do, make sure you get a scope that can handle the abuse. Droped my scoped rifle many times. Buy at least one Barska scope to have in your line up, but like me you will buy more then just the one. Going for a low power unit now. Very happy and plesently suprised."

The Glass is not that good and the elevation and windage turrets do not return back to zero. The parallax adjustment Knob became loose and will not retighten. "I recently Purchased the 6-24-44, I was highly disappointed to find out it was broken after two boxes of shells through a 308 cal. rifle. The next one I got to replace it, was just as disappointing. It's not broke, but it could be alittle bit clearer. The free mounts sent with the scope are cheap and poorly made. If I could do it over again, I would spend more money on a better quality scope and brand."
