Great Britches,

"I ordered the Cabela's Outfitter's Wooltimate Windshear Pants the week before my elk/mule deer hunt this year in Northern Colorado and they made it just in time. I was very impressed with the workmanship and quality of material and the option of having them hemmed was such a plus. It's always a struggle to get pants that fit at the waist and through the legs and aren't too long. The size charts were 'johnny on the spot' and there's plenty of room through the seat and legs without being baggy or bulky. The material is very soft, not like normal wool, and very very quiet. After wearing another company's HydroSuede bibs for years these were much lighter and easier to move around in, like a regular pair of pants. There was a snow storm a few days before we left and so we struggled through snow and ice all week from ankle deep to some drifts almost to our waists. These pants were excellent. They shed snow, ice, and melting water without collecting big chunks. The outer material never got 'wet' and the windsheer lining never soaked up water. They also dried out completely in a few hours by the stove at night. With temperatures from the 10's to 30's and the wind blowing close to 30mph a few days the windsheer lining did just as reported and the pants, along with a lightweight lining, kept me very warm while hiking all days without ever causing me to sweat to death. The leg openings were large enough to fit over knee boots but weren't so large that they allowed cold air or debri to get up inside. The camo pattern is awesome. It is light enough so that you never 'black out' but it has enough dark green to do a great job of breaking up your outline. They helped me to get within 85yds of a nice elk that capped off the week and filled the freezer. Great product from a great company that I highly recommend to anyone."

"Only reason these pants didn't get 5 stars from me is the belt loop size is very small and the adjusters get in the way. Short of that they are excellent. Just got back from a Cabela's Utah Mule deer hunt and they did an excellent job of stopping the wind while glassing."

Another great product by Cabelas,

"I bought this for caribou hunting. After freezing on top of the Nahanni Range at the Yukon/NWT border in Sept, my hunting buddy was wearing these pants and had no complaints of the wind. I decided to buy one for my next outing. I bought the pants and the jacket. Very nice. It is wool however, so snow sticks to it. To my surprise I saw two other hunters in late October in the Yukon Territory wearing this coat as well (a great jacket for the ATV too). I liked it when layering. Not too heavy, not too light I wear it all the time when I want to stay warm on the mountain."

"Quality of the product is good as with all Cabela's products . The problem I have with the product is the weight - quite heavy and I'm sure much heavier when wet. (Have not used in the rain or snow yet). Will find out this December"

"Really great pants! Super warm, easy to layer under, and a great camo pattern! They're a little noisy for bow-hunting but they'll serve fine on a windy day. My only suggestion is to give them a quiet Gore-tex lining as they tend to soak up moisture."

Wind shear pants,

"Nice pants for setting in a tree stand. If you plan on lot of walking in ruff country look for a different pant. The crouch is a little bulky and cargo pocks need a zipper! I used these pants on two day mountain goat hunt and they really showed a lot of wear for two days of use."

"Great set of camo and withstands cold as good as anything I own. If you are thinking about buying this set, make sure you go for the WindShear option. Slightly louder, but will worth the extra couple bucks. Bought the pants (Windshear) but the Jacket was back ordered and ended up getting it minus windshear (Wish i waited)"

The best wool pant I have ever owned.,

"My first time wearing these pants was for a coyote night hunt. The temp. was -6 deg at the start of the hunt, 4 hours later the temp. had dropped to -23 degrees. The pants performed perfect. As a Maine Guide I depend on quility outdoor clothing. These pants have proved to be a vital piece of my gear and have earned a spot in my emergency bag. Thank you Cabelas for a great product."

Wooltimate Windshear Works,
January 10, 2009
By Mountnman
from Ozark Mountains of Missouri
|
"I really needed a pair of wool pants with windshear after too many seasons of the wind whipping through my unlined wools and these seemed like a good, affordable alternative. Yes, the belt loops are a little tight, but a woven web belt worked through with no problems. Overall, a good fit though. They are definitely warm--on a recent late season January bowhunt in Illinois with 30 mph winds where I forgot to pack my longjohn pants, I stayed remarkably comfortable. Only reason I can't give the trousers a full five stars is that when they got wet (crossing streams, etc.) they soaked up and held the water like a sponge and seemed to take forever to dry. Chilly on the shins, but probably more noticeable because I lacked the thermal layer underneath--they have been great in dryer situations. Thumb's up and would highly recommend."

warm but not durable,
January 5, 2009
By mackenziens

"I've had these pants for 3 hunting seasons now and love how warm and comfortable they are. At the end of last season I noticed that the wool was coming off in the seat area and on the inside of the pant cuffs. This ticks me off big time because I loved these pants! The next time I am going to be near a cabelas store I am going to take them in and see what they think may have happened. I do a lot of walking while I hunt, so I have no idea why the material came off the seat. Otherwise, I would give these pants a definite 5 star rating."

Wooltimate Windshear Pants,
January 1, 2009
By kstmbuild
from New Hampshire
|
"I purchased these pants after purchasing and using the jacket on a recent hunt in Alberta. The jacket performed so well that I had to have the pants. While I have not used these yet I can tell by the weight and feel that they will perform as well as the jacket and provide enough warmth in almost any hunting situation. I expect there would be a lower limit for comfort while on stand of somewhere around 10 degrees since they are not insulated. Of course you can always layer as needed. I only wish that Cabela's would produce the jacket in a non-camo street version. The jacket is so comfortable I would wear it all winter long here in New Hampshire."

"These pants live up to their name. I was hunting in November in the mountains of PA with a foot of snow and 40 mph winds. It's the warmest I have ever been in my tree stand. Worth the money.
By the way the belts loops are fine for a thin belt and the pants fit over my boots. I bought one size bigger to fit long johns and it worked out great."

Wooltimate windshear,
December 15, 2008
By nophonz

"I hunt mostly in GA. I bought the jacket and pants on the recommendation of a friend. The only criticism I can think of is that when wearing the clothes I feel somewhat like the little kid who's so bundled up that he can't move. They do restrict movement but only a little. That having been said, on a cold windy day they are a real plus. Keep your layering light and enjoy the day."
