BEST BOOT EVER!! 10 STAR BOOT!!!,September 28, 2009
By TrooperRyanfrom Visalia, CA
"These boots are everything a real hunter wants. They are rugged, completely waterproof, easy to break in, and absolutly comfortable. I have a 10.5 size right foot and 10 left. I bought 10.5 and it was a perfect fit as it is true to size. It was big enough inside to wear a thick sock when it was cold but even with light socks on, during a hotter day, I never got a rub or hot spot after a 12 mile day. They broke in easy from toe to heal but kept great stiffness for lateral support for my weak ankles. I laterally traversed both rock and soft dirt to maintain altitude on many days and they have always been super supportive in the ankles and kept great traction. I have had them completely submerged in water and they literally repel water. They look the same going into water as they do coming out. The lace up system is great and the single fold seems so simple, but it is really a revolution in comfort for my tired dogs after a long hike/hunt. Lastly, I like the additional upper rubber rim above the sole. Its great for protecting the toe especially. Cabelas unfortunately is doing their clientele a disservice by not offering these boots in their annual or fall catalog.
I have worked in Danner's for years, worn military issued matterhorns and Sorels. These boots are the best I have ever had... Period. Would give 10 stars if I could."

Canadian Hunter,September 10, 2009
By TheBootDestroyerfrom alberta
"Hey hunters,
The boot was excellent, I was just on a bighorn, elk, moose, mule deer, and whitetail hunt, I was in swamps, up mountains, through burns and across cut blocks, and the boots were comfortable and stable, my feet were warm in the mornings when i was up high spotting around for game but not too hot in the afternoons. I like how the boot is stiff and is more of a solid design better for packing out game and hiking steep terrain, I use to guide in B.C. and i had my fair share of bad boots and these aren't it, if your an intense hunter pick up a pair."

I would give a 10 star if they let me!,July 3, 2009
By noelj07from Fort Collins, CO
"I purchased these boots for elk & deer hunting in Colorado. One of the features that I really like is the rubber that surrounds the toe of the shoe and goes all around. Since I'm doing my hunting at tree line (10,500 ft) I'm always walking on rocks and hiking in the worst of conditions. I can't stand it when a pair of extreme boots doesn't have something protecting the toe of the boot. It seems like whenever I hike my toes are always getting nicked (either from hiking or kneeling). The rubber protects the boot and has preserved the longevity of my investment.
I've had these boots for four years now and they have held up in amazing conditions. For elk hunting, I have to hike from the bottom of the valley through the bushy marsh for two miles, just to get up to the woods for a mile, to get up to tree line where the elk are. These boots have held up through incredibly wet and harsh conditions. I had a couple friends of mine that purchased a $100 pair of boots at the same time that I purchased these and they are now on their third pair of cheap boots. The first two that were supposedly water proof, but weren't and the third pair just flat out fell apart. I can't imagine having to re-break in a pair of boots every year during hunting season, let alone wondering if they were going to do what the tag said that they would.
These boots had virtually no break in period and I would recommend them to everybody. Like all boots though, you must take care of the leather to make them last. I put leather preserver on my boots at least twice a year (depending on how crazy the hunting is) and these boots will easily last me 10 years; or in my friends case (10 : $100 boots :) I see it as I just saved $750! and a lot of time and headaches!!!"

Well worth the $$,March 24, 2009
By CanadaDavefrom British Columbia, Canada
"Great boots! I've put roughly 50-60 km's on these boots and they are breaking in nicely. No blisters, just a few hot spots on the first few trips. The leather is top quality and the boots have great support. All of my hiking thus far has been in snow, and my feet have stayed dry. Properly oiled/coated, it would be very hard to get wet feet using these boots. These boots are stiff enough that they aid in climbing steep slopes, but are not too stiff for normal flat ground walking.
The single-fold tongue system is probably the most comforatble setup I've used. The Vibram soles seem to have good traction, especially on rocky terrain, and I think they will be firm enough that they won't wear quickly.
I'll be using these boots on an upcoming spring grizzly hunt, as well as a stone sheep/caribou/goat hunt in August, so they will be put through the test and I'll be able to give some more insight."

Review 6 for Cabela's 400-Gram Thinsulate™ 10-1/2" Mountain Hunter™
"We hunt strictly in Adirondack Mountains of northern N.Y. Here we get all kinds of conditions to beat up a pair of boots. From wet soggy snow, muddy or very dry hot days. We can average about a hundred miles a season on our feet in these extremes. I can break a pair of boots down in two seasons if they are'nt up for the beating. Our gang can tell you all you want to know about hunting boots. We are called F Troop. We killed a lot up big bucks up here thru the 40 years we've been hunting together. Most of us get our boots thru Cabelas. I'm about to order either my second pair of Mountain Hunters or I'm going to try the Meindl Perfekt Hunter. I probably should'nt, cause the Mountain Hunters have gone thru their second season so far with outstanding performance. Their about to start their third season. They have held up great. They dont leak yet and get great traction. They are the stiffist boot I ever had and took a little break in time. All the support you'll need to get over boulders and cricks with or without snow. Happy Hunting Adirondack Ron"

Great Boot,December 30, 2007
By wyoelkhunter1from Laramie, WY
"I bought these boots early spring and put them through their paces this year. They are a little warm for summer hiking and early bowhunting but performed well throughout rifle season. The tongue system is great once you get the boot broke in but it took me 80 to 100 miles to get them fully broken in. I got hot spots on the top of both my second toes from where the tongue folds over but i never got any blisters. I find the boots extremely easy to get on and off even when frozen after a cold night. I wore out the inslole about the time they really broke in. I bought another pair of insoles and the boots are great again. Ankle support is good I didn't have any problems even with a 105 lb pack. I saw all kinds of weather and the tread workes great on rocks, snow, and mud. My feet never got wet (except for sweat in the early season). I absolutely love the tongue design as it it very comfortable after you get the boot broke in. I was a little leary of the high price of these boots but after using them for a season I am not at all disappointed. I recently put a coat of sealant on them and they look like they are brand new. I believe these boots will last years. If you are a serious hunter and are not afraid to spend some time breaking boots in I would seriously think about purchasing these boots."

"I just can not say enough about these boots. Warm, dry, comfortable and easy to break in. I am a big guy and have feet problems and from the moment I put them on, the fit and felt good. Wore them seven days straight on a barren ground caribou hunt and they literally saved my ankles and feet!"

Mountain Hunter Boots,September 12, 2007
By nopefrom Calgary Canada
"I have not actually used these on a hunting trip yet but have been walking in them a lot, They feel light on my feet, on off easily and are warm, with good support. Tread seems to stay clean in the mud. One break in issue is that they seem to put a bit of pressure on top of my toes when I wear them with orthodics, no problem without the orthodic. They close verry snug on the ankle area which is what I was hoping for."

Great boot with defect,September 10, 2007
By GoCatchOnefrom New Mexico
"Used boot 2 times and had an string hook pull out of the leather. I have sent it back to get a replacement. This is my 2nd pair of Mountian Hunters. First pair is the original style and has probably 200 elk miles and is still going strong. It's a great boot, I just need to get a pair without a defect.
Also these new style of Mountian Hunter boots could use a longer boot string."

Best boot I have ever owned,June 6, 2007
By Rem700from Southeast MO
"Bought my first pair in 1988, wore them in the field year round. Took me 15 years to wear them out. (Most boots would last me 2 years max) On my second pair and I fully expect them to last as long. They work well on Bear, Moose & Sheep hunts in Alaska, Elk hunts in Colorado as well as turkey and deer in Missouri & Iowa. Just hope I can hunt long enough to wear out a third pair."

Performed flawlessly in Africa,May 31, 2007
By SafariMarkfrom Fremont (SF Bay Area), CA
"I just returned from (my first!) Safari in Africa, and my Mountain Hunter boots performed flawlessly. A lot of the terrain was comprised of 18-24" tall grass with loose rocks underneath varying in size from 1/2" to 4" or so. Not a stable environment, to say the least. The support of these boots kept me from a twisted ankle, at a minimum. In addition, they were comfortable all day long, and for over a week, they were my daily companion. I especially like the new asymmetrical tongue gusseting, which reduces the bulk while maintaining the watertight character and making the boots even more comfortable that traditional gusseted-tongue boots. The boots were so comfortable that I chose to wear them on the flights home. This was a mistake, as I had forgotten about removing shoes at the security checkpoints, and there are a *lot* of laces to tie while standing in line! I'll be buying an 8" pair soon for early-season hunts and hiking. Price/quality can't be beat."

15 years and still my favorite,May 4, 2007
By Midnitesoonerfrom Sechelt, British Columbia
"I am about to buy my third pair of mountain hunters. I have been successful on 7 big horn sheep hunts, 5 goat hunts, several moose ,elk ,deer, and bear hunts, all unguided. My mountain hunter boots have been thru swamps of northern B.C. to the shale slides of the east kootenays and everything in between. My last two pairs have been beaten, kicked , and scraped yet have both continued to give awsome service to this day. My last two pairs were given to each of my sons, and they do not want new ones. They like the comfort of the ones they have. These boots simply need to be maintained with a good leather seal from time to time. I am buying a new pair for a stone sheep hunt I am doing this August. Simply put, I would not use any other boot for all of my hunting and hiking needs. Thanx Cabela's for a great product."

Mountain Hunter Hunting Boot,April 24, 2007
By DrBullseyefrom Denison, Texas
"This boot has met all expectations for durability and service. Also, the asymetric lacing system is more comfortable that standard lace-up systems. Just really hard for me to beat any hunting boots(leather) made in Italy !!!!!! DrBullseye"
