Cabelas Hunter Bivouac,December 8, 2008
By Sikafrom New Zealand
"Great little tent for a quick overnight bivouac. I'll use it next rut for a week's camping, with a small, light flysheet to reduce condensation. Here in New Zealand we have a wet, cool climate in the deer rut, but this tent is great for over-night forays from the main camp into the bush, or even as the base camp with a fly when hunting light. Great design, with whole side opening up, and that side acting as a canopy to cook under. Condensation can be reduced a little with the vents adjusted, and a lit tea candle to warm up the interior, driving out water vapour thro' the vents. With a flysheet, the condensation will be much less. Good sewn-in ground sheet. Nice light poles. Easy & fast to erect. Excellent aluminum pegs. A good hunter's overnight bivouac."

Cabelas Hunter Bivouac,September 1, 2008
By SteamboatMountainManfrom Steamboat,Colorado
"The design of this bivouac is a nice change from other one's that I have. The door's ability to become an awning is a great feature.(I had to prepare and eat several meals underneath it due to bad weather)There is room to sit up and dress comfortably inside of the bivouac. The only problem with it is condensation forming all over the interior walls. There are two noseeum screens on either end of the bivouac but, there is no brace to keep the tent material away from the screen.Same situation with the window(it can only be opened and closed from the exterior of the shelter)I overcame the "rain forest" effect by cutting some sticks to about 6 inches(three in all)and wedging them between the bivouac tent and the storm flaps at each noseeum screen.I did the same at the rear window. It helped some.Thats all."

"I recieved my Hunter Bivouac on Wednesday,on Thursday I was hiking the John Muir Trail in Yosemite Natl. Park for three nights. The weather was warm (early Aug.) and I sleep "hot-blooded", so I slept with the window open and the zipper un-zipped with the straps on the door hooked to the tent stakes.Ventilation was excellent with no condensation. Simple design, the quality of materials and workmanship seems very good. I will be leaving my Hunter Bivouac home until the weather gets colder, I think it will be real good in colder weather. I can sit up in the tent to change clothes (I'm 6'). The camo pattern makes great "stealth camping"."

Bivouac Tent,December 18, 2007
By MinnesotaBobfrom Minnesota
"This is a great basic tent. It is waterproof, reasonably roomy for a one person backpacking tent, and very light weight. I have used it many times. It is easy to set up and tear down. Warm in cold weather (20 degrees). The main draw back is that it is one layer and will get a lot of condensation. Bring a towel to wipe it down and you are OK."

Hunter Bivouac,December 11, 2007
By DrCryptofrom California
"Quite possibly the worst tent I have ever owned. Nice design, and nice features, however it lacks a screen at the large opening and traps moisture and condensation like a plastic bag! I slept in this tent 3 nights and every morning, the interior was covered in condensation, regardless of the methods I employed to prevent buildup, this even included leaving the rear window completely open throughout the night."

Great concept, not-so-great details,October 25, 2007
By MatthewFfrom Jackson, MI
"First of all, this tent has some good qualities to it. It is very light and compact. The entire side zips out to form an awning, which is convenient for moving gear in and outside the tent. I also enjoy the option of being able to sit in my tent while still having a full view of what is happening outside. The tent stakes and poles are of good quality, and also included in the package were 4 discs to set the poles on to prevent them from sinking into the ground and getting dirt on them. Initially, this seemed like the perfect tent. I took it on a canoe trip to northern Michigan in the early fall and found that this tent has some less-than-favorable traits. The first night, I slept with the window closed and the tent sealed up pretty good. I woke up with about 2 ounces of water on the floor of the tent! The tent had collected condensation from my breath and from moisture in the air. The next night, I slept with the window fastened open, and I did not have the same problem. The window has a zipper on each side, as well as velcro, but it fastens at the top. So it's pretty much completely open or completely closed. The window opens and closes from the outside, too. It would also be nice if the front of the tent had a screen so that I could lie in the tent with the awning and not have the insects bother me. The tent floor is just big enough for the essentials - sleeping bag, canteen, and knife. In conclusion, this tent is great if I'm using it when the weather is dry and there are no bugs out."

Too Air Tight,October 2, 2007
By scruffy9961from Colorado
"This tent, although it looked good and had appeal the way it opened, was the worst tent I have every used. Temperature variations, drops of 25 to 30 degrees, down around freezing, and within a couple of hours of being in the tent, condensation would be running down all four walls. That was with window open and a stick holding the gable end vents open. Tent needs better ventilation or only use it at moderate temperatures."

All Wet,October 2, 2007
By Maximfrom Golden, Colorado
"The first 30 hours it rained, sleeted then turned to snow, All my gear got pretty wet, It was a bad storm, but still, I got wet, top and bottom. I even got wet when it didn't rain, I had condensation dripping on my face ever morning, lots of condensation. Good design very packable but not for cold and or damp weather."

Perfect pack in tent,July 5, 2007

"This is just what the doctor ordered for a spike camp. Packs down smaller than many pillows and sets up quickly. Wouldn't want to live out of it for 3 weeks but 3 nights in a remote canyon is doable if the bulls are bugling in there."

"This is an excellent bivouac. I bought it recently and so far it has held up great. The hunters bivouac has plenty of room for you and your gear. The set up is a breeze and is ideal for backpacking. But it is a little tricky to put away. It's a bit pricey but overall has a great srtructure and well thought out."

Compact and weather proof!,November 27, 2006
By Snakeyesfrom Newalla Oklahoma
"I take my horse to go Elk hunting in Colorado and it seems like I can just never make it back to camp before nightfall. This bivouc tent is perfect. It folds down to a small lightweight pack, ideal for either a backpack or saddlebags. I found a meadow late one afternoon and wanted to check out the action for the next morning. A storm blew in that night and the tent held up better than I expected. It kept me dry all night through a torrential rain and buffeting wind storm. I'm over 6 feet tall and it has plenty enough room to hold me and my backpack. It is constructed very well and is a great bargain for that price!"
