GREAT PRODUCT,September 25, 2009
By CyrusFlintfrom Asheville, NC
"I got My SmartCast about a week ago. Used it fishing from a John Boat at a Lake I've fished many times. We loaded the Boat with Nice CatFish. It showed Fish/Depth/Structure and Boy did We find the Honey Holes. I've never had so much luck at this lake before! I don't know what these other reviews are talking about about battery life, We kept it on all day long and NEVER ran out of power. We tied the receiver to a Cooler in the Boat and it just kept on running. I Love this thing!!! We named the little Green receiver ''Lil' Toot''. I'll never fish without it anymore. And what a great Price. You just can't beat it! We used the easiest setting and it kept on Chugging. Thanks Cabelas. Those bad reviews were crazy! It's a keeper, just like the Cats We caught!!!"

good product,August 17, 2009

"i like the rf15 cause it does show bottom contour somewhat and of course the depth. maybe not always accurate in finding fish, but if you know where the holes are, you know fish are gonna be there at somepoint."

hummingbird smartcast,August 3, 2009
By arch54from Ohio
"I was disappointed in the performance of this product. You can stand on the bank and see the fish swimming around and the smartcast shows no fish. I can't get the thing to show a fish at all, no matter what I do. Very disappointed."

its about time,October 6, 2008
By kdxmomfrom Ohio
"My dad and I love this, we call it the green submarine. It works great, we needed some way of checking out new fishing spots for snags and for fish. We fish off shore a great deal and this is perfect for the shoreline fishermen. You just don't want to use it in choppy water, and the best way to use it is to cast it out and check out the area where you are fishing and then shut it off and put it away, saves a lot on batteries. Some people like to use it as a bobber."

Could be better,April 22, 2008
By Chavalozvi
"I bought this product thinking that maybe it would last long but I found out that if I wanted to fish for a long time time I would have to carry extra batteries. They should have thought of a way to connect to a 12 volt powersource."

By boondoxfrom Rigby, Idaho
"I had the same model before--a little unimpressed about the lenght of time before I had trouble with the main control unit--but it does do it's job--marks fish at each depth--which is what I need"

Good as long as the batteries. Bring plenty.,July 23, 2007
By RealBaitfrom South Carolina
"The RF15 and the new PiranhaMAX 230 Portable Sonar work great and are very reliable – we spotted and caught a nice catfish using the smartcaster – but the 8 AA batteries don't work for a long period of time. The Smartcast's range drops out significantly when battery power is down by half. The farthest I could get a link was about 10 feet and declining with the fading batteries. Now the 230 with the suction cup transducer gave good readings for a significant amount of time. AND it stayed in place even after going through waters at 50 mph! On lithium batteries, it lasted for about two hours. We noticed the screen would repeat the same image. Not understanding why, we simply restarted it. It worked fine but it would do it again. I believe this was when the batteries were three-quarters depleted. The suction cup transducer makes the PMax 230 a better choice – bring lots of batteries for an all day trip! To Hummingbird – why don't you sell a 12v plugin converter? Then batteries wouldn't even be an issue! Overall, I'm pleased with the products just not the power options."
