Great backpacking tent - water resistant!, November 2, 2009
    By neelpert1 from Weatherford, TX

"All the reviews talking about the full rain fly and the tent being dry are dead-on! I bought this tent based on those reviews and the first weekend outing that I used this tent rained half of that weekend! We had six other backpackers with six different tents. Half of these people had wet stuff. Mine did not...not even a drop of water! I also used the vestibule to put my boots and it rained all night long. Zero water in the tent...no wet boots!

This time I just used a tarp as the 'footprint' was on backorder but for using a cheapo tarp that had holes in it, this tent performed GREAT! And at the price this is selling, I'd recommend it to anyone!

"Excelllent value. Have used it on several hikes and in the back yard with the kids. I bought the 3 person tent, but it would be a trick to fit three adult males in there with even a small amount of gear. Two would fit comfortably with gear."

    Great Tent, October 29, 2009
    By Klicker from Minnesota

"2 of us spent 20 days in the BWCA this year in this tent. We had 4 days of snow, 12 days of rain, 2 days with winds 25-30 MPH and this tent withstood it all. The floor stayed dry, the tent didn't sweat, it is comfortable, dry, easy to set up, light weight, and without a doubt the best tent I've ever used. I've done trips to the BWCA for over 25 years, taken many Boy Scout groups to the BWCA and would strongly recommend this tent to any group that is looking for a light weight, strong, dry tent."

tried it and liked it, October 20, 2009
    By whitesands from pensacola, florida

"Was looking for a different tent prior to annual section hike of AT and did a lot of research. Cabela's XPG Ultralight came the closest to meeting my criteria of space, weight, portability, design and most of all, price. Used it for five nights in fairly tame weather and it met my expectations. The fly came down low enough to assist with the low 40's temp at night and for keeping out pouring rain on two nights. It dried quickly and I like the side entry as opposed to the end. It set up quickly and easily. I was a bit concerned about the poles as I saw a number of comments about how easily these poles broke on this tent and others but I had no problem. I think as long as you ensure they are seated fully into their sections you should not have a problem. I considered the one man tent but went with the two man and for the extra pound or two it added, it was well worth it. I cannot imagine the claustrophobic feeling one must get in the one man version. The only possible negative to this tent which only time will tell, is I think the zipper for the side door could be heavier duty. I may have graded this excellent but did not have enough other tents I have used for comparison."

    Great Tent!, October 8, 2009
    By bwcacanoetripper from Northern Minnesota

"We have this tent in the single man and two man. Both are super fast and easy to set up, they are lightweight, and really stand up to weather, we woke up one morning to find the tent in a puddle a couple inches deep - nothing was wet. As to size, my husband and I fit fine in the two man and my son loves his own single - but no extra gear. However, for what we wanted it for (a lightweight, durable tent just for sleeping in) it works GREAT!"

    Great Tent, August 20, 2009
    By BWCAW from Minnesota

"Used this tent on a trip to the BWCAW in northern MN and it worked wonderfully. Very easy to set up. Can take the rain fly off and get ample ventilation if there is no rain in the forecast. We had one night with an overnight thunderstorm that dumped around an inch of rain on us and everything was dry inside, while some fellow campers in a different tent were soaking wet. Definitely think a 3 man tent is needed for 2 people of any size or it would be quite cramped. Also, get the footprint when ordering, it is well worth the money."

"hello im in the boyscouts and i purchased this tent with the footprint. since im in the boyscouts i go camping alot but 1 campout was the rainiest day i ever incountered. it was so rainy there was atleast 2 inches of rain covering the ground, and to make matters worse we were next to a river.that campout i used that tent and it was absilutly dry on the inside. so for that outstanding proformance i give it a 5 star"

Good tent, great price, June 12, 2009
    By MSwaterfowl from Memphis, TN

"I have used many different tents by several different manufacturers that will remain nameless, but this tent stacks up right next to them... at half the price! I used my tent for the first time last week on a canoeing/backpacking/camping trip with the guys. I was impressed with its light weight and small size, especially when you ditch the bag it comes in a use a compression sack. I can just about get the whole tent (minus the poles) to equal the size of a volley ball, thats pretty small. The DAC poles are perfect and the tent is easy to set up. In fact, it can be set up in the rain by crawling inside the rainfly, setting up the poles, and then clipping the tent in place. Unfortunately, as pleased as I am, there are two downfalls: first, this tent should include a footprint, especially if there is one specifically made for the tent. It would cut down on returned equipment by protecting the investment, instead of learning your lesson the hard way. Secondly, the tent could use a second door, especially in the 2 and 3 person model. This would avoid disturbances in the middle of the night when you are getting crawled over due to nature's calling of your tent mate. Overall, good tent, and as always, still impressed with Cabela's equipment."

    great tent, May 11, 2009
    By Doctorslb1

"We purchased this tent for an upcoming Boundary Waters trip and have been very pleased with the trial runs so far. It's easy to set up and take down. I feel the 3 person model is more sized for two larger individuals though than for three. ( I'm 6'5" my wife 6') Nice tent for the money"

    good tent, May 5, 2009
    By charlieGA from GEORGIA

"this is tent is as descibed. only issue i have so far is the pegs on the ends of the rods aren't long enough. i bought the footprint as well and the footprint, tent and rain fly are supposed to hook onto the pegs. two of the three will fit easily but the third barely hangs on. otherwise the tent seems fine; lightweight and packable"

    MAJOR testing!, April 22, 2009
By benjam76 from Turtle Lake, Wisconsin

"I work for a company that works with juvenile delinquents and these young men are very hard on all of their gear. The problems that we have with these tents have all been related to the zippers not working due to yanking on them. This separates the metal zipper causing the zipper not to close. I found that I can take a pliers to pinch the backside of the slider to close it up. The other problem that I have seen with this tent is the poles tend to crack near the joints. This is preventable when you are setting the poles together that you make sure that the two are entirely seated together. The final problem that we noticed is that bag is flimsy and tends to tear out along the bottom and near the tent stakes pocket. Cabela's has done very well with standing behind these tents as well for any problems that we had. They have recently changed their return policy on their products again.

Now the positives... It is lightweight and priced right. It can also be a perfect tent for those who are quite particular about their gear. They also provide enough room in the center of the tent for sitting up without putting your head into the roof. The tent stays waterproof for quite a while but needs to have some type of spray on waterproofer. I prefer the silicone based because it also makes the tent not as sticky as other sprays. One other big thing is to make sure that the inner tent wall isn't touching the rainfly. If it is you will have a wet sleeping bag by morning.

The test that we put these tents through include going on four, two week long ventures backpacking in all kinds of conditions and terrain. They face everything from snow and sub zero temps to summer with 90+ degrees. We also do a lot of other camping trips throughout the year with them as well. Overall they have been a good tent for these young men.

"I've used this tent now for 3 seasons, been rained on plenty and never wet inside. I've looked everywhere to find a better 2P tent for backpacking and i've yet to find one. This tent packs small, weight is only 5# and sets up very quick. Great tent!"
