    Not impresesedd..., October 13, 2009
By FishingLovers from Cape Lookout National Seashore

"Nope will be sending this back tomorrow. The set up for this tent is obnoxious and sill it isn't even well engineered. We saw 60 mph with 85 degree weather. The Kelty was stifling by mid-day and the was no way to get air into the ten, except removing the rain fly which was a two person very frustrating job.
All of my other tents from Cabellas have been Cabellas brand. This Kelty tent would have work well in the woods in a place where wind isn't driving it down constantly or someone who needs a tent once our twice a year. It's a shame the rain fly can't be rolled back, without taking the whole thing off, because the ceiling is all screened and would be a great place to star watch on buggy nights. But the fly is either on or off. It is isn't easy to get off. In the description they talk about the amazing circulation. honestly it's stifling at best, but a more honest description would be suffocating

Also the front screen room, is not bug proof, rain proof, etc. Jest a vestibule to into your tent. I would ike to keep my clothing here with the purpose of keeping them dry in the corners, but this room didn't even have seems where the corners met. And folded corners aren't going to work for primitive camping on the beach
End result we are sending it back in exchange for the Cabela's Two Room Cabin. Same amount of money for so such better design and quality.

A nice enough summer tent, October 10, 2009
By nealart from Cape May County, NJ

"4 years ago on a camping trip in Northern PA it began to rain buckets and I found myself with my 2 kids soaking wet in a leaky cheap tent that we had bought at a discount retail store a few years earlier. Determined not to give up on our vacation we drove the next morning down to Hamburg and visited the Cabela’s store in search of a better tent that wouldn’t leak. At the store I finally decided on the Kelty Green River 6 with fiberglass poles and purchased it with the optional ground cloth ( the tent was on sale too! ) We took it to the campground, set it up in the dark and were dry for the rest of the camping trip even though it rained for another 2 days straight. We have been using the tent since then on all of our camping trips, about 65 days camping in all, but have finally decided to replace it with a Cabela’s Alaskan Guide 8 man tent with aluminum poles ( see my Alaskan Guide review ) and these are the reasons why:
1-It is really a summer tent. Use it in the fall or early spring and whatever the temperature is outside, the inside will be the same. The window on the door cannot be closed, nor can the vents in the fly. When the cold wind blows, it blows right though the tent as if you were outside even with the flaps down on the screened porch walls.
2-After our second camping trip I found it very difficult to keep the rain fly from puddling over the front part of the tent. It seems that the rain fly got stretched somehow and due to the design, it is impossible to take out the slack now.
3-There are no other windows in the tent except for the front door. Which is great for privacy I guess, but it would be nice if you could take a look outside when you hear a noise without having to exit the tent.
4-Regularly using the front screen wall of the screen porch as the entrance for the tent is kind of annoying because of the angle and length of the zipper. After a while I started using one of the side screen walls as the entrance. Though it worked, the stake straps are not set up to be used in that way. This spring we finally wore out the zipper about a foot from the bottom. You could leave the front screen wall rolled up as shown, but then that defeats it’s purpose of keeping the bugs out.

    OK, some good notes:
1-The screen porch is nice on warm rainy days when the bugs are trying to get at you. I can fit 2 camping chairs with the flaps up and 3 chairs with some of the rain flaps for the screen walls down and stay dry.
2-It is easy to set up. You can easily have it up in 15 minutes with little practice.
3-It is also very roomy, maybe too much so if you like to sleep on the ground with an air mattress.
4-The tent always fit easily in it's carry bag including the ground tarp.

Kelty Tent in the Beartooth Mtns., August 24, 2009
    By BarbGary from Thermopolis, WY

"First time out to use our new Kelty tent was at Beartooth Lake. The ground was wet when we set it up from a pretty hard rain the night before. We had practiced setting it up once before at home and we were able to set it up quick and easy. Once camp was set up we went on a hike for the day and came back in the rain that afternoon. It rained off and on all night and we had rain at different times for the next two days. The tent performed very well and every thing stayed dry. When Kelty says it is a four man tent it really is, very roomy. No complaints. It is our first tent with a vestibule. Was nice to have that added space. It gave us somewhere to sit in our lawn chairs while it was raining and also helped keep the tent itself cleaner as we had a rug to leave our shoes on. I read previous reviews about this tent with concerns to privacy as the tent door is partially screened. Not a problem, if you want more privacy simply pull the covers down on the vestibule. We weren't bothered by this at all. Thanks for a great product."

    Big Tent, June 16, 2009
By DeadlyWood from new ulm, mn

"typically speaking, when manufacturers depict the number of people that can fit in a tent they have them piled in like sardines. This baby will fit 6 easily. We had 2 queen sized aero beds with sleeping bags and still had room to move around freely. only downfall is that you will need at least 2 people to set it up. It did rain the first night we were out and we stayed bone dry."

    By Maico from Minnesota

"I took this out in 80 knot winds and it didn't even bend a little bit ... then the torrential rainstorms hit and created a river through half of it until I was forced to sandbag around the sides...the bags were drenched but the tent remained dry and this was even before I put on the optional rain fly . We remained bone-dry for the 17 hours of punishment and the next morning I pushed the sandbags away and unzipped the door and just paddled my way back to the car. I've been camping 70 years and have owned close to 45 high end tents and never came close to this one with the exception of my Target Ozark Trail 4 man which is exclusively used in military applications . Highly recommended but maybe overbuilt for most people's use."

GREEN RIVER 6 IS HUGE!!, October 6, 2008
By DanielL from La Grange, NC

"I bought my tent last November. The pole design make the useable space inside twice that of my older tent with the same foot print. It was plent warm at 26 deg. for two nights. I have used in in freezing weather, down pouring rain for 5 days and sweltering heat. The tent performed perfectly.

The huge vestabule is great for sipping coffee during the morning rain. Lots of room even with the door rolled up.

I agree with the others on the lack of front door privacy. It would be nice to be able to close off the entire door area. I just let the outer door hang down in front while I changed.

It could use some extra venting in the fly during the hot July summer, but I was mostly comfortable after the sun went down.

    Green River 6, July 22, 2008
By lfj914 from San Jose, CA

"I bought this tent to me the needs of my growing family. We are now 5 and the kids are getting bigger by the minute. This tent had ample room for everyone to feel they had a little space even with all the clothes etc packed inside. The front screen area was also great for keeping the kids toys close and out of site when we were off exploring.

A couple things I did not like was the amount of screen area in the tent. It definately can not be used with out the fly in place 70% of the top half of the tent is screen. Also the door is half screen so the only way to get privacy for changing is to close up the entire screen room area. The screen room was also just that "screen" and the coverage flaps did not close off the area well.

I liked the tent overall but think a little more attention to detail would make it a great family tent.

More of a summery tent., May 28, 2008
    By lockeFan from MI

"The performance of this tent depends on the set up of the rain-fly, which takes some practice. While it does not take rocket-science, it is not particularly straightforward to set up.

I would have liked a zippered flap that could -- optionally -- seal off the front door's mesh.

I do love the height and the space.

Because of the height, I could have done with some loops at slightly lower levels, from which to hang a lightweight LED light.

Kelty green river 4 person tent, May 14, 2008
    By northforkcamper from Weippe Idaho

"My wife and I do allot of camping, we have had many tents some of which are 4 season other only for summer camping. We purchased the green river for the spring, summer and early fall camping we do on the north fork of the Clearwater river in Idaho.
We have used it three time this month near our home and it has done nothing but rain, so far the tent has held up great in fairly heavy rain with no leaks yet. We like it and it seems sturdy enough for what we plan to use it for. One thing I wish Kelty would change is the side flaps on the vestibule, they are too loose fitting.

    imho, April 20, 2008
    By entice78 from gunnison utah

"I bought this tent a week before taking it out, I set it up in my backyard first (by myself). The weekend we used it the wind was forecast for 27mph (which usually means 40-60mph gusts) It stood up for about 6 hrs of this next to a lake in direct wind with no trees in sight. Then two guy lines ripped off the fly. That's the last time I go camping in that kind of wind, my bbq ribs were covered with sand.
The tent was exactly what I wanted and more than I expected, I knew that the wind was going to be that bad but forgot about the usual gusting thing. I will be trading it in for a new one, and not going out in such conditions. If I am forced to camp in that kind of wind again I will turn it so that the porch faces into the wind this time or just use a smaller lower profile tent. Another good thing about it was that with all the sand blowing around there was alot less than I expected inside the tent. Ventilation is good but not if your expecting a draft in your tent(my wife thinks it needs more draftiness for our 1mo old, it did seem kinda hot). Fabric is a very good material. Don't stake out to tight or it will rip!

"We got the 4 man tent for 2 of us and it was very comfortable. Because I am reading-directions challenged, I am glad I practiced putting the tent up on our front lawn before we left. The only negative is the difficulty of putting in and taking out the support for the awning."

Great Tent, Especially for the Price, June 20, 2007
    By FredBird from Phoenix, AZ

"Took this tent to the White Mountains in Northern AZ over Memorial Day Weekend. It sets up pretty easily, a little harder with only one person, really easy with two. Didn't get any rain (won't see that until Fall) so not sure how well the rain fly works, but since it's made from the same material as the tent floor, I'm not too worried. I will probably wind up getting the Kelty Tent Footprint for this, as the floor is pretty tough, but it kinda worries me against the rough ground. Also, the material is very light weight, and even at the first of June it's only in the mid-30s to low-40s in N. AZ at night, so it does get pretty cold in the tent(just take some extra blankets). Overall, for the price, this is an excellent tent. And I forgot to mention, very spacious. I'm 6'7", 235 lbs. and I use a cot in my tent, and there's plenty of room for me, the cot and all of my gear, plus I can actually stand up in it with only minor bending of the neck. If you haven't got one, buy it! If you're looking to replace an old one, buy it!"

Very Nice, and roomy too, June 14, 2007
    By Jones100 from Rhode Island

    "I'd rate this test a 4.5, but there isn't a 1/2 star option.

Bone Dry during a down pour!
My other tent leaked to the point where I had puddles in it.

I love how you can stand up in it, easily sleep 4 men, set up is fairly easy, and the rain fly covers the whole tent. And the vestibule came in handy during the rain.

    What I would improve.
Use bright colored tie downs instead of black. I found myself almost tripping over them. Add a zip open window or vent on the rain fly to allow for a cross breeze, or maybe less screening on the tent for privacy when the rain fly is off.

Space was good, airflow (ventilation) was good, temps were 80_85 daytime 35_45 nighttime.
Space in vestabule was very good (room for table to put stove& kitchen on , also a lounge chair .

    Great Tent, November 27, 2006
    By SteveInKentucky

"I purchased both the six and four man tents this year. Both are extremely roomy. The six man fit three twin air matresses side-by-side without a problem. I selected the Green River style because of the high vestibule feature. It provides a place to put gear outside of the tent and a covered place to sit if it rains. The material is high quality and the poles are extremely sturdy.

My only complaint is with the four man size: The pole sleeve for the vestibule is too tight. It needs a little extra meterial so the pole slides freely during setup.

Hint: The vestibule pole is shorter than the others. Mark it so you don't try to use it as one of the main tent poles.

This review is based on three outings using the six man tent and one outing with the four man tent. I have no doubt they will provide years of good service.
