gppd product,August 24, 2009

"I have been a long time consumer of the Knives of Alaska brand. The set of knives I most recently purchased of are excellent knives! The quality of the knves are outstanding. However, I did have trouble shapening the knives due to the wierd angle of the factory edge. i just resharpened to the 20 degree edge I am normally accustomed to. Works just great. The first time out I cleaned about 35 Coho and the knives are just what the doctor orderd. The sheath is of lower quality than the knives, but still workable. Overall I will use this product many years and a very happy with it."

Fishermans Combo,April 11, 2009
By KBnNCfrom Advance, NC
"Bought this set last year to take to the coast. They came very sharp right out of the box. I cleaned a variety of fish like drum, whiting, pompano, and blowfish which has a skin that is like trying to skin a basketball. They held thier edge really well and just had to touch them up when I got home. I never had any problem with them spotting or rusting even though I didn't get to clean them up good for about a week after I first used them. They have a good feel and didn't get slippery when using them. I just wished that the Steelheader had a little more flex to the blade for smaller fish. Overall they are great knives and will last me a lifetime."

Knives of Alaska Fisherman's Combo - PERFECT,November 15, 2008
By montanafosfrom Billings, MT
"Absolutely love this set. I used the steelheader fillet knife while on a fly in Canadian walleye and pike trip this summer and it made filleting walleye a breeze. The knife made up for my lack of filleting ability. Just used the coho on a steelhead trip and once again, these knives prove they are the best. Very happy and would buy again. I bought 8 of the stelheaders as gifts for my fishing buddies on the steelhead trip and they all love them."

Great Product/ Great Buy,October 13, 2008
By remotealaskafrom remote southeast alaska
"To date, I have just finished processing about 2 dozen silver salmon-using these knives. I work and live at a hatchery so I am a little spoiled. All I did to the two knives was touch them up once each w/ my Ez-Lap. They hold an edge very well. They also have just the right amount of spring to the blades while filleting and helps take some of the work out of it. Both knives also have so far held up to the saltwater environment we are-but I am also a stickler for caring for my knives."

somewhat disappointed,November 27, 2007
By adqripfrom Atlanta, GA
"Bought these knives this past summer and took them on salmon & halibut fishing trip to Alaska. As a previous reviewer said, the Steelheader knife was spotted with rust after one use. And I washed the knife after cleaning the fish & use in salt water. Knives did come with a sharp edge right out of the box, larger knife works great on halibut, especially skinning the fillet. The larger knife didn't rust though it appears to be made from the same steel. For the $$, I expected a better product."

First Trip,July 18, 2007
By GaJimfrom Georgia
"I recently purchased this set for a sailing trip. The knives did well but after the first use the knives spotted with rust. They were washed and dried after they were used. I felt disappointed in the quality, more in the appearance aspect. They functioned and held the edge well. They just look like well seasoned after the first use. This was my first Knives of Alaska purchase and hope this is the only negative."

Quality knives for the money,July 16, 2007
By dh515from California
"I recently bought the Knives of Alaska Fisherman's Combo using a gift certificate I got from my kids for Father's Day. I was looking for a quality knife (good steel) with a least a 7" blade primarily to clean larger fish but with this combo, I also got a smaller blade. So far, I've cleaned some trout and done some kitchen prep of some Humboldt squid with the smaller blade and cleaned an Albacore with the larger blade. Both blades have impressed me with their initial quality and sharpness. I also like the balance and feel of the handles which don't get slippery with fish blood. Both seems to hold an edge well, although a couple of fish isn't a good test for this yet. (I'll report back after I've had a chance to re-sharpen them as that will be a major test of these knives - at least to me). I also like the serrations on the tip of the larger blade. This feature is very handy for cutting through bone or the piercing the thick blade dulling skin found on some parts of a tuna. As a final comment, I bought this set for myself after I bought an identical set for a buddy's birthday. He likes them too!"
