Excellent hooks - all the best sizes available,September 3, 2009
By wolfofmichiganfrom White Lake, Michigan
"Sharp sharp and REALLY sharp! Good consistant quality and available in every size you could want. One note - smaller sizes (1 and 1/0) tend to allow a little slippage when rigged on very soft type plastics (like some GULP plastics) especially when casting (the bait can slide on the head of the hook near the eye and bunch-up). Otherwise - awesome hook style and brand!"

Better than straight shanks,June 30, 2008
By Anonymousfrom Silver Lakes, CA
"I fish a little private lake in CA for Largemouth Bass. These hooks have enough gap in them to allow a good hookset after penetreating the worm, where straight shank hooks don't have that gap except on smaller bodied baits. I had a friend that swore by Owner #1 straight hooks, and now he's almost exclusively using #2 EWG hooks. They seem almost self-setting, you just need a light hookset and they almost always set in the lip without getting gut-hooked."

good hooks,October 8, 2007
By DRMDSfrom Asheville, NC
"I tried these after reading a review. They are now my first choice in this style of hook. I am still ambivalent about color. I read that the red color disappears first as the water deepens. I think that would mean any visible portion of the hook would appear black to a fish rather than invisible. I also read that these red hooks are supposed to resemble blood trailing from injured fish. It is not the first inconsistency that I have found in fishing lore, manufactors' claims, and the biology/physics associated with catching anglers. For the moment, I am sticking with black."

"I can not figure out the hook size with the catalogue. The hooks are of the finest quality but I always get the wrong size and have to ship them back. There needs to be a standard size chart with each brand."

Great Hook,May 21, 2007
By Kevbo67from Illinois
"This is the best hook for soft plastics. I've tried them all and this hook Trumps all hooks. Exellent strenght without the bulk, hook lies straight down the back of the plastic so you can skin the hook perfectly every time, stays extremely sharp fish after fish. For Carolina Rigging there is no better hook out there."

EWG are great hooks,April 30, 2007
By nathan1678from North Platte, NE
"Gamakatsu EWG worm hooks are great hooks, I like using the 5/0 for Texas rigging. They are the sharpest hooks I have ever used, and all gamakatsu hooks are great. The EWG hooks keep the worm straight, which makes it look natural, which is important when Texas rigging. So if you want a great hook then try a EWG you won't be sorry you did."

Gamakatsu EWG Worm Hooks/25,November 26, 2006
By panterafrom Pennsylvania
"Gamakatsu Worm Hooks are the best out there for the money. I fish bass tournaments where money is on the line and I have been using these hooks for 15 years. Chemically sharpened, they are needle sharp right out of the package. I use the EWG which is Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gap hook, the wider gap allows the hook to bite farther in the fishes mouth allowing for a more solid hookset and less chance of the fish throwing the hook. I buy them from Cabela's in the 25 pack, a little cheaper than buying the smaller packs. I have never been disappointed in the quality of any Gamakatsu hooks that I have purchased. I use the 1/0 size on small grubs and I use the 2/0 and 3/0 size on smaller plastics such as 4" and 5" worms and tube baits. If you have not tried these you should, your hookup ratio will go up over standard worm hooks. Once I switched to Gamakatsu hooks I never went back, my hooksets where solid and lost fish ratio went way down. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed."
