Cabela River Guide Canvas Hat,

"This hat was my first purchase from Cabela and also the first product I own that carries the Cabela brand name. It will NOT be the last Cabela product I purchase.
The hat works exactly as advertised and has done a wonderful job of protecting my head from bright sun when I am working or relaxing outdoors even in 40 mile per hour winds. The adjustable tie down strap is perfect and doubling up the strap guarantees the hat will stay in place. I could have purchased a medium instead of the large but the large size works perfectly even when I use a headband to cover my ears in colder fall and winter temperatures.
In closing, I highly recommend this hat. I thought that packing it would be difficult but once I placed my socks and undergarments inside the box around the hat, I had no problem placing the entire box in my checked luggage."

"Excellent item.
Not at all floppy. Brim can be bent into whatever shape you like.
I got it for fly fishing; protects your ear and back of your neck.
A great feature for a night fisherman is that you can fasten up one side of the hat and use the brim as a place to keep your clip-on light until nightfall. I don't know about anyone else, but I never liked seeing it on the visor of my ball cap.
Do not order the extra large unless you have a really big head."

"When I first saw the name "Cabelas"when I was searching for a hat, I knew that I would have a superior product if I bought one. I not only bought one, but eventually two. I had previously bought a cheap imitation from a local store, but when my hats came in, there was absolutely no comparison. The Cabelas hats kept their shape even under the most adverse circumstances and even under a downpour. (I live in Florida) I am very pleased."

"Ordered the canvas hat, it came very well packed. At the first look, it was a great hat, fairly stiff as most reviews say. I went ahead and rolled it up and when you unfold it, it comes back perfectly to its original shape. it has a wide brim and does protect from sun all day along and is very comfortable. I have used it a couple of time now.
The bad part was that the chin strap was broken right out of the box , something which I had to fix myself as I had it shipped to India.
Also the hat has additional buttons on the flap which is not described in the pic shown"

"The Cabela's River Guide Canvas Hat seems to be a fine product. I haven't had it long or worn it much so I can't speak to the durability or how well the hat will break in. Right out of the box it is a very stylish hat but it is very, very stiff. I suspect that once it gets soaked with sweat or rain this will change but it starts out stiff enough to be less than comfortable. I have read other reviews speaking to the issue of rolling up the hat for packing and I can understand how that wouldn't be initially obvious given the crisp tenor of the hat right out of the box. I guess it would be a bit intimidating to try to roll this hat up (sort of like wadding up a brand new $20 bill). But the other reviews tend to indicate that it recovers handsomely. I haven't the need to pack it so I haven't tried that. The sizing seems nominal. The chin strap is well designed and is easily stowed out of the way. I plan to use it mostly on the golf course here in Florida where the winds blow 15-20 mph pretty frequently so I'm sure it will be a valuable asset. It is well ventilated and comfortable in the hot Florida sun. I think it was worth the price and the ordering and delivery service were exceptional."

"The product is great, though we went through some false starts to get the right size shipped.
The hat was great for river rafting in Colorado (the reason for the purchase). It has served me well for walking in Central Park in NY and surviving the heat of Central Valley California as well. It does in fact roll up and go into luggage and then can be reshaped and used without showing any "luggage roll-up" wear and tear.
Any comparisons to the user looking like Indiana Jones are not guaranteed. LOL."

"I bought this hat for my dad for Christmas. He loves it and wears it to play golf under the hot NM sun. He recently had some melanoma spots taken off so this hat has helped a lot. My husband just got a new job requiring him to have to work out in the hot NM sun nearly every day. He wanted one like my dad's to keep the sun off his face and neck. Has helped immensely and he never leaves the house without it each morning. Now, if I could only get him to use that sunblock lotion on the places the hat doesn't protect from....."

"Sad to see the change in the way in which the under the chin cord is fastened as compared with my older River Gide Hat. The Apparent Glued joint looks cheap and not terribly sturdy. Alos the sizing has chnged - the same size in my older hat is a bit smaller and better fo me, at least."

Great hat! How do you roll it?,

"Love this hat. Holds up well to golf, bad weather and hot sun. Buy it larger than you think! I have a 7 5/8 hat size and the XL justs fits. I'd like to know how to roll it without ruining it.
The brim size is perfect and I'm looking forward to adding alot of abuse to this "lid" in the next two or three decades. It is very well built."

"Make no mistake, the hat I received is a very good quality hat and should last the buyer a lifetime. However, the hat was not what I expected. The image depicted by Cabelas at cabelas.com resembles a fedora style canvas hat and appears to have a 2 ½” brim. The hat I received has a very wide 3” + brim manufactured by Outback Trading. It put me in mind of a cowboy style hat. In addition the hat that was delivered has snaps on the left and right brim which allows the wearer to flip up one or both sides of the brim. This was not depicted in the picture or mentioned in the description. These differences may seem minor to some but I am very picky about my hats and this is just not my style at all. I really wished it looked more like it was depicted and I will be returning this one. Despite my dissatisfaction with the style, the hat is good quality and was delivered very quickly."
