Gaines Pan Pop,July 9, 2009
By Ifishwheneverican
"I used them in lake St. Clair and caught tons of smallmouth bass ( one was 25 inches!!!) but the hackle came apart on 4 out of 6 and on every single one the paint was cracked and broken off. On one the whole body fell of leaving me with something like a small tarpon fly (which worked awesome by the way). But other than the poor materials, these are great."

"When it comes to panfishing, nothiung is better. I have used these to catch bluegill, sunfish, bass, and carp. This is my go to lure when i go to an area i dont yet know well. I'll put it this way, These are so good that you dont have time to get it snagged or stuck in a tree, the fish will tear it apart before you can!"

Poor Poppers,August 27, 2007
By flyfish50from Little Rock, AR
"I recently used a Gaines Pan Pop in black, #12 fishing for spotted bass on a local stream. Although the popper was effective in catching fish, by the 8th bass, the hackle was coming apart and most of the paint was gone. I wish I could give credit for at least catching the fish to the popper but feel the fish would have been eager to bite anything as the stream was low and flow was minimal. The fish were ready to strike any surface fly resembling a bug. I have used other brands that were more durable in the same conditions. And even though they were more expensive, I feel the durability rating vs. longevity of the fly is acceptable. It's too bad these poppers are not more durable for the price. For that I give a poor rating."

Gaines Pan Pop,June 25, 2007

"I have fished these surface poppers on local ponds for about three years. They work best on bluegills, but are also pretty effective on bass and crappie. I use black and yellow mostly, white works but not as well. Bluegills go after them aggressively; crappie suck them in and are caught near underbrush and floating algae; bass are best when spotting movement. An accurate cast over their head is best. They take it vigorously. The lures are fragile, so be prepared to reel in a bare hook after a few fish. I occaisionally get a lunker bass on them and that is usually the absolute end of the lure. Overall. they are a good and inexpensive way to have a lot of fun in a warm water environment. I have trout fished for many years and these poppers have allowed me an excellant alternative when I can't get streamside. Thanks."
