Good idea but not built well,
February 11, 2008
By Cwatts
|
"This is a good idea and on the right tract, but way to flimsy. I should have asked for a refund. There is no way, fully extended, that this extensiion will last. It should have been made out of heavy plastic or even some metal."

Works for me,
August 10, 2007
By SeaEagle
from Detroit, MI
|
"No issues with the u-joint for me, but I did need to change the grip on my tiller to get the unit to tighten enough. No issue now. I think this is overkill for my 3.3 Mercury, as it does not have a twist throttle but I knew that when I ordered it."

Could be better,
July 22, 2007
By Blackduck20

"I needed a long handle for the tiller on my duck boat. The straight 30" one was too short, so I orderd the extendable one with the universal joint. The universal joint is totally useless, and when locked it still flexes way too much to be useful. I finally removed the joint and now it's satisfactory."

Poor, poor quality...,
July 7, 2007
By mjbuck

"Other than using this item to throttle up or down, it is useless. I used it (or should I say tried it) several times after purchasing it and found it to be cheap and impossible to use to steer. Spend a little extra money and get a good one."

Tiller extension actually works!,
June 6, 2007
By LathamW
from San Francisco Bay Area
|
"This turned out to be a great buy. It's a must have on a small single handed sailboat on the San Francisco Bay. The ratcheting (hose type) clamp would be my only complaint. With a little thought there has to be a better way to secure this to the actual tiller handle in a more secure fashion. That being said... you can't beat the price!"

Tiller Extension Handle,
April 30, 2007
By Zoom50
from Pittsburgh, PA
|
"It enabled me to controll my throttle on my 5HP kicker, but steering with this is anything but easy. I ended up locking my kicker straight and using my big motor as the rudder to steer. Steering with ujoint unlocked does not work most of the time as the tiller handle just pivots at the ujoint (depending on the twist throttle handle position). Overall quality is ok, but there is a lot of flex even steering a small 5HP kicker. There has to be a market for a better design. The only other option for throttle/steering controll is quite expensive. It does allow me to controll the throttle without hanging off the back of the boat as my kicker is on a transom mount bracket."

Tiller Handle,
April 16, 2007
By GusG
|
"This jointed handle is just what I've been looking for. The Minn Kota 3X trolling motor has a shaft that is enclosed and a typical extension that attaches to the shaft will not work on it. With the factory handle, even at full extension, it is too far to reach from a normal fishing position when making turns of more than about 60 degrees. This handle allows you to make those turns from a seated position."

Cabela's Tiller Extension Handles,
November 21, 2006
By Brickman1240

"I have a 5 HP gasoline trowling on my boat that is mounted on the very back of my boat. It is very difficult to reach sitting in the seat and as a result I have experienced back problems because of this.. However with the extended tiller I can easly control the motor in complete comfort. I would recommend this product to any one."
