"I have the older version of this reel and was looking to update but it is very hard to find the same reel. I bought it about 15 years ago and cant imagine using anything else. you never touch the line. My bail quit kicking back all the way about 3 years ago but it doesnt take much effort to reach down and bump it with the other hand. I would recomend this real to anyone and plan on buying a new one now!"

"Used this setup for the first time on our vacation to Mammoth Lakes in September/October. It is a great reel and rod for trout fishing. The rig was dependable and easy to use. Liked the ease of casting and the pole was sensitive enough to catch those finicky trout. I didn't give it five stars because it's not "excellent", but for the price and action, I give it 4.5 stars. It meets all expectations of a seasoned fisher person."

"this is a good combo at the trigger was hard to deal with at first cause i never used one before but now that i got the hang of it its very good the rod fits pretty good the butt end is not that big its very comfortable some times when its cold you don't want to get your hands wet when it is near winter time thats when i use this best purchase i've made"

"The rod and reel combo worked fine for two outings. The third time I used the Combo, the "firing pin" on the reel broke and the reel will no longer work. I would not reccomend this product."

"I bought my first hypercast to help one of my kids who was having a hard time with spinning reels but wanted to bass fish. I tried it out and to my surprise I kind of liked it. now i have 5. I got the first one about 3 years ago and it is the bigger of the 5, and still works flawless. And it gets a lot of abuse. I found it handy for light trolling because I can cast it with one arm in a hurry. no worries about bail position. And I can keep my other hand on the tiller handle. 3 are combos and I like the rods better than some of my more expensive ones. One of the reels spend the night in the lake and when daylight came we fished it out, used it all week before cleaning and greasing it. Still works like new. And i really like the instant anti-reverse.
They arent as smooth as higher end reels but they are just as good or better than other reels in the same price range."

"i have used snapshots and hypershots since they came out. upon first sight i knew that they were a new twist on tackle and could be used for a specific purpose. despite the half dozen snapshots and dozen hypercast that i have ruined this product fits my fishing style perfectly. a style that has been referred to as power finesse fishing or making finesse presentations as fast as possible. most notably is the hypercast. i have used this combo and have been very pleased with both the reel and rod. the Medium, Fast action rod is very sensative at the tip and has enough butt to play out 5 - 10 range bass fairly well. a good hookset is sure with proper technique. and most important to me is the reel's constant anti-reverse and ability to fire off pitch after pitch and cast after cast as fast as possible. making the best presentation possible and then firing back for another chance. although i dont use this combo, i believe that it is an excellent choice for the beginner to intermediate fisherman. as for everyone else;... buy two or three of these reels and put them on a really good rod. although i have used more than three of these reels in a season, im buying three more for 2009"

"Used the two quantum rods and reels on my recent trip to Quebec Canada. Caught over 1000 walleye in seven days of fishing with my three buddies. Love the reel, but...rod broke in half on 1st cast,October 19, 2007

"Shock & Awe! So here's my story: It was a beautiful day, buddy's new Lund, 200HP Merc, you get the picture... Before we headed out, he had to select which of his 39 (yes, 39) St. Croix rods to fish with that day...hey, you want to try one? Nah, I've got this brand new rod and reel from Cabela's. Half hour later, we've settled in to our little fishing hole and are getting ready to cast our first lures of the day, when all of a sudden my rod snaps in half on my first cast! What? You've got to be kidding me! My fishing buddy, reminds me that's never happened to him EVER because he only fishes St. Croix, and now you know why. Happy ending? Of course! Cabela's comes through with a full replacement, no questions asked. Great customer service, but certainly a suspect rod. I'll be moving this reel over to a St. Croix rod as soon as he's willing to part with one of his! I'm already on his waiting list."

"I recently received my new rod and reel combos (2) for a planned trip to Lake of the Woods, MN. As a novice e-shopper I was some what hesitant on making the purchase but all went well and my order was shipped on a timely basis. After several trips out I am very happy with the Quantum Rod. It feels good in your hand, very well balanced, and great sensitivity . I am however disappointed with the Hypercast spinning reel. It has a very smooth motion but the hypercast bail does not open all the way on either reel and you have to use your hand to fully open the bail before casting."
