Looking for an affordable rod with all-around versatility? Sounds like you're the perfect candidate for our LST (Line Speed Taper) series. They are lightweight and strong, with a versatile fast action. One moment you could be shooting long, accurate casts across the length of the river, and the next you could be delicately laying down short, precise presentations to a nearby rising trout. LST rods perform both equally well. With the combination of medium- to high-modulus graphite material and fast actions, they deliver the same performance as rods that are typically priced much higher. In addition, we equipped them with lightweight woven graphite reel seats (aluminum reel seats on 7 wt. and up), single-foot titanium carbide finish guides, high-grade cork handles and SIC stripper guides. All hardware has a titanium-colored finish. Includes rod case. 25-year warranty.

Excellent back up Rod, October 11, 2009
By bnfan01 from SLC, UT

"I recently broke my primary float tubing rod. I packed my LST 4 weight as a back up hoping no to use it. Needless to say, it fished perfect landing many fish over 20 inches. Casting was fairly effortless, even into the wind. I will keep it packed as my back up and will be my primary until the replacement for my broken rod arrives."

Blank breaks easily, October 3, 2009
By kriegfish from Plattsburgh, NY

"I have had two of these rods break on me, one in the tip and one in the second section. It is a 9'9" 8 wt that I use for salmon and steelhead in fall and occasionally for bass. The second one broke when I was fighting a fish. Cabelas is good about honoring the warranty, but a broken rod can ruin a day's fishing and, if you are on a trip, it could be an expensive day. Look for a different rod."

Tips are weak, September 20, 2009
By J1979 from Seattle WA

"These rods cast well but they break way too easy. I broke my 8wt on an average size Pink Salmon. An 8 weight is a typical steelhead rod which should have handled a pink salmon just fine. Hopefully, Cabelas will send me a new one. I've never broken a rod before in this fashion. Just snapped the tip while landing the fish."

Fantastic Value , Great Rod, August 17, 2009
By Cugr78

"This rod fishes very similar to a 9' 5 wt Sage that cost over 3 times as much....nice appointments. Ok , maybe no hardwood reel seat, but as far fishability, absolutely no complaints. Sensitive, powerful, lightweight. Bought for my 21 year old son, who has gotten serious about fly fishing after a couple more or less starter rods......he totally loves it....broke it in last weekend on 6 14-17" Rainbows and Brookies."

Good Rod - excellent support, August 3, 2009
By Snowwolfe from Anchorage, Ak

"Very nice rod, nice and light with a good backbone to it. But first time out it broke just below the joint while catching a 8 pound red salmon on the Russian River.
Give credit to Cabelas though. They did not charge me for shipping the replacement rod to me. Still, not sure why the rod broke as I was doing nothing wrong while fighting the salmon.

Great Pole, July 31, 2009
By GreatPole from Bakersfield, CA

"I am new to fly fishing and I am 100% satisfied with this rod. It is not stiff to a point where you can't get the fly out in to a lake but it also has forgiveness. I would reccomend to any one interested in this pole."

LST #7 9.6' rod, July 29, 2009
By ddubya from Brandon, Manitoba Canada

"I have owned an LST 7 wt. rod for a couple of years and i have been very satisfied with it's performance and durability.
i have just purchased my second identical rod as the price is unbeatable for that quality. this rod has caught pike, walleye and numerous fat 25-28" Brown and Raibow trout. I primarily fish from my Fishcat pontoon boat (another great Cabelas purchase) in lakes. Here in Manitoba the wind blows frequently but this rod is able to punch large flies into the wind with ease. The rod has the backbone to subdue large pike and withstands their thrashing around when they are near the net. This rod is a great purchase.

LST 864-4, July 28, 2009
By Teledan from northern CA

"This is an easy casting, medium fast action rod that feels light in your hand, penetrates wind fairly well, and generates enough line speed to cast 75 feet, but would be best used for more accurate casting to 50-60 feet. Would be an excellent all around backpacking rod."

Wonderful feel and action, July 14, 2009
By OhioFlyfisher from Central Ohio

"I was looking for a four-piece rod I could take while hiking or traveling. Went with the LST because of the sale price and other reviews. The feel and action of this rod just blew me away. I own several fly rods and never imagined a four-piece rod could be so light in weight and cast so well. The grip is a little larger than other fly rods I have, but it feels even better in my large hands. Once again, a superb Cabela's product with exceptional performance at a lower cost than top "name" brands."

These are nice rods.., June 30, 2009
By CaliforniaDave from Folsom, CA

"Over time I've purchase the 906-4, 907-4 and 909-4 versions of the LST series of rods and I'm eyeing a couple of more LST models. These rods hold up well to the rigors of everyday fishing. They are very light in the hand and all three share a crisp responsive fast action, yet they are not stiff. Their contemporary cosmetic appearance rivals many of the rods available today, sporting a tiger eye like blank color, attractive wraps and much better than average cork.

If you're looking for a faster action rod that you can still feel the subtleties of the cast with, a rod that can roll a high density head or tip up and out of the water with little effort, then these rods might be for you.

While I'm not big on cross brand comparisons, if you're looking at some of the other rods in the under three hundred dollar price range. Those with better known names, or ones that are commonly touted as " you can't go wrong with "on bulletin boards. Do yourself a favor and try a LST first ( Cabela's has an excellent return policy ). Dollar for dollar, you'll come out way ahead in the action, weight and appearance category with a LST. Who knows, maybe you'll be the one to start a new trend.

Live and fish well, Dave

Cabela's LST Series Fly Rods, June 18, 2009
By MosquitoLakeRaff from Mosquito Lake, OH

"I believe the LST fly rod is the best rod Cabela's sells. It's very light and has a powerful action, and yet is fineseable. I can lightly land a fly at twenty feet, or shoot it out to twenty five YARDS. It is so light in weight that the rod case feels empty. Buddies that I fish with that try this rod want one. In a word it's SWEET! I have a 2pc. 4wt. 7.5', and a 9' 2pc. 6wt. I highly recommend them."

A Fast But Versitile Rod, June 15, 2009
By BrianinAtlanta from Working the warm waters south of Atlanta, GA

"This review covers the 2wt LST (although I also own the 4wt and 6wt models in the LST line).

I bought the 2wt to sit in between my 1wt and 3wt Clear Creek rods. I knew this rod would have more backbone and a faster taper than the slower Clear Creek models, and it doesn't disappoint. Although it is a true 2wt rod, it is a 2wt rod with a lot of authority - 'lite and delicate' don't fit anywhere in this rod's description. Don't misunderstand, it is not a heavy handed or overly stiff stick, but a well scaled 2wt rod with a fast taper and the ability to put the line out there!

I find it does very well as a tool for working the bluegill beds in some of the shallow lake edges near where I live. I'll wet wade out a short distance and work up and down the weedbeds, enticing the 'gills our from under the shallow cover.

This rod, with a good 2wt WF line and a good furled leader make one heck of a combo. If you need a 2wt with the ability to carry a lot of line this is the rod for you.

LST 9' 8wt 4-piece Excellent Rod for the money, June 4, 2009
By squeegee from Columbus, OH

"I'm amazed. I ordered this rod on Tuesday and the UPS man dropped it off this afternoon (Thurs)! But more surprising is how beautiful it is and how well it casts. I have a lot of rods, including an 8wt G Loomis and this is by far a better rod. Lighter, quicker and easier casting. It absolutely propels line. I was casting on my lawn only a few minutes after the UPS man left and was amazed at the ease and accuracy of this beautiful rod. My only complaint is that I wish it had snake instead of single-foot guides. I think there may be another LST in my future."

Great Rod, May 3, 2009
By tkaste from Phoenixville, PA

"I picked the 8wt LST rod up after my 10 yr old Cabela FT Fly rod broke. The old rod was was out of stock so Cabela's gave me a full credit of the price to a new rod.

When my rod broke I borrowed my friends Sage rod. Nice rod but this rod is a least 1/2 the price and I actually cast it better than the Sage!!!

I use this rod for Striper Fishing in the Delaware River, Cape Cod and Long Island Sound.

Excellent rod, loads nice, cast great, great accuracy and has great strength. I was out fishing for Spring Striper in the Delaware this morning and although no Stripers I landed several nice smallmouths, and a 20+ lbs Carp. The Cabelas SR2 reel and LST rod perfomred without a flaw while this Carp stripped out all my line and good portion of backing.

I will have to get a 5wt or 6wt for the smallmouths, 8 wt is a little big for them
