First and foremost, is the powerful composite cork and Rulon? disc drag. It has an ultrasmooth engagement to protect your tippet from a fish's initial line-ripping run. Plenty of excess braking power is there whenever you need it with a quick turn of the large drag adjustment knob. The drag is also sealed to protect against sand and debris. One of the first things you'll notice about the XSS when you pick it up is its solid frame and balanced weight. The machined-aluminum construction and unique ported design are the key to its lower weight. The XSS's large arbor spool promotes quick line retrieve and large line capacity. It has a quick-release button, making it easy to switch between spools. The oversized paddle handle is easy to grip. Easily converts from left- to right-hand retrieve. "I recently received a Cabelas XST / XSS2 10 weight combo. I am fishing on the Gulf of Mexico in the flats and mangroves for big Tarpon, Snook, and Permit as well as bonefish. This rod reel combo has preformed excellently! The XST rod has the perfect backbone for long, accurate casts in windy conditions. The XSS2 reel has preformed flawlessly. A super value!!!!"

"Recently purchased this combo in 8WT with Rio Bonefish 8WTFT line and Cabela's backing for a flats trip to Belize. It was essentially flawless. I caught bones until I was too tired to fish anymore. "Broke the pole on the second day of the Alaska trip, thank God for a Warrantee. The reel free spun a couple of time, but I think I just left it in the water too long. Besides that I loved both. When they work there is nothing better to catch reds."

"i can't believe how powerfull this rod is(910).i have it set up with a high speed full sink 10 wt line.i can double haul the whole thing out.it takes a strong wrist, the full sink is heavy but will throw a heavy clouser like nothing.the xss reel is all you need.i was going to buy a much more expensive make rod and reel but i'm glad i didn't.i'll be able to by two different weight setups for the price of one.the 4 piece is easy to transport and the color of the rod and reel in the sun is great.
the setup is balanced nice."
