"It's a solid staff but the handle broke the first trip I used it. The metal shaft wasn't fit properly to the top cap."

collapsible wading staff,
June 22, 2009
By Tomf52
from Northeast PA
|
"Usual Cabela's great value. Makes it possible for my 63 year old legs to handle some pretty tricky stream bottoms. Large cork grip very comfortable and well fit tube sections give a great feeling of stability and safety. Also very convenient to use. Much less expensive than the competition. Just wish they had chosen another color for the storage sheath, like an earth tone green or brown."

Great Product!,

"This is a great product! It is very, very helpful when walking through a strong current. And, it just hangs out of the way when you're not using it. I am really, really glad that I bought this product. I've seen others that are much more expensive but this one works just fine. And, even more important, I caught 4 fish last week! I am new to fly fishing and this product makes me feel much more stable when I'm out in the river."

Wading Staff Can Save Your Life,
June 15, 2009
By BiloxiRed
from Georgia Mountains
|
"I've used this staff twice while fly fishing. Once when the water suddenly began to rise from a dam release and I would not have made it out of the river and to the bank without it!
These sell at the local outfitters for $150.00. Can't beat this deal.
No one should enter a river without one!"

Collapsible/Wading Staff,
November 3, 2008
By Moemiester
from North Carolina
|
"I purchased this staff for a Montana fishing trip. I was not happy to find the staff itself is 56" long which is more suitable for someone around 6'4". The construction of the staff itself appeared good but after a few days the end cap came off so now I have a hollow tube. I will send this one back to Cabella's and buy another brand."

Great stability and handy,
January 16, 2008
By Allenn
from Colorado
|
"I am a novice fly fisherman and wanted a staff to help me with stability in moderate to fast moving streams in Colorado. I have a bad knee from an old injury and felt that the extra stability from a wading staff would keep me from falling in or damaging the knee. I have used this staff over 25 times. It has served me well and prevented me from getting wet many times. I attach the holder to my wading belt and only use the staff when I need it. While fishing, I usually let it drag behing me as the line keeps the staff from drifting downstream. WHen I need it, I simply reach the for the line and pull the staff up to me. I also find it helpful when traversing steep trails. The staff collapses and stays out of your way when it is not needed. I can pull it out of the holder and it self-assembles so that I can get to it very quickly when needed. My only concern is that one of the cords that holds it together is starting to fray and I am not sure how much longer it will be before it breaks. Given the hard use and great price, I am very satisfied with this product. When and if it finally gives way, I will definately purchase another one to replace it."

"Just returned, two days ago, from fishing in North Georgia and North Carolina. Used the staff several times, saved myself from several falls which is why I bought the staff. I am getting old, 69, and find I need this assist more and more. I could have really used it this summer on the headwater of the Rio Grande River at the reservois where I fell in several times."

Wading staff,

"The first time I used the wading staff the top of the cork handle w/ compass broke off within first half hour. The rest of the cork handle is now beginning to slowly break off.
The staff itself seems to operate ok and is strong."

It does the job,
July 28, 2007
By TracyEd
from Central Valley, California
|
"The fishing I do, I don't need a staff that often.....so I couldn't justify the $$$ for a top-of-the-line staff. This one is absolutely fine for what I need. I used it on my JUNEAU trip this summer, and was glad I brought it. I decided to replace the hardware at the end of the lanyard, it was a litle too lightwieght. Dropping the staff in a strong current could have caused the original harware to fail and that would send the staff downriver in a hurry. Who chose that color blue for the nylon pouch? Everything else I wear or carry is in earth-tones (brown, tan, green) and us flyfisherman do try to be well color cooordinated :-)"

Know its limitations,
July 16, 2007
By LK00
|
"I bought this for cross-country fishing trip, figuring my one-piece staff AKA old ski pole would be difficult to pack or carry-on an airplane. It goes together and disassembles easily, and packs compactly. But keep in mind while using it that it is held together by an elastic cord, so if it gets jammed in a crevice or deep mud it will stretch and come apart, and maybe snap back. I would guess this is a characteristic of all staffs with this collapsible design and not of this particular model."
