SportDOG Brand™ Field Trainer Standard SD-400 - Orange

The SD-400 is ideal for yard work, light field training and hunting with close-working dogs. It has a 400-yard range. The standard trainer has eight levels of momentary, eight levels of continuous and tone stimulation functions have separate control buttons. Transmitter and receiver are fully waterproof and submersible. Both use rechargeable, replaceable ni-mh batteries and have low-battery indicators. The transmitter has a comfortable, soft-coat finish. Transmitter can control up to 3 dogs with the purchase of additional Field Trainer Add-A-Dog receivers. For the more advanced user, unit can be programmed to 8 different stimulation setting modes with the push of a button. This allows the user to tailor the unit to his or her personal training methods.

"I have used this to train my non-hunting dog. It works very well for what I use it for. I noticed that the battery doesn't last too long when used for long periods of time. Also if the collar battery is low and you charge just the collar it seems to not receive the signal from the transmitter until the transmitter is also charged, so I always charge them at the same time now. The collar seems to not be so bulky and doesn't seem to bother my dog. Nice product."

"We live on 5 unfenced heavily wooded acres and have had a very difficult time getting our dog to stay in the yard and come when called after going "exploring" or going to visit the neighbors. The most aggrevating was when we would catch her in the act of sneaking away - we would tell her to come, and she would turn, look at you, and take off, usually with the neighbor dog. Thanks to a few zaps, she has figured out very quickly to come when called, listens when we tell her to stay, and she doesn't try to venture out of the yard as much. The difference is amazing! Now we just need to work on getting her to stop digging holes in the grass!"

Dont Buy This!!!!, September 22, 2009

"I have the SD 800 model of this collar and used it very little. I went to use it with my new pup and the receiver and transmiter will not connect. i went through the reconnect process several times before calling sportdog tech support to find out that it would be $80 just to look at my 1.5 year old hardly used collar!! Then then tried to sell me a new one!! Yea thats what i need another collar that wont work. No thanks. Dont buy this collar its junk and the customer service is very poor."

"The Sport Dog Collar has made a big difference in my dog's training after only a few short weeks. I watched the video and read the manual then put it into practice and my dog has responded very well, during training, and her behavior has improved when the collar is not in use as well."

"i had bought this for my black lab puppy but when i first bought it i used it on our doberman pup and it has worked great his attitude calmed down and is pleasant to be around

with my lab she can now go with out anything i can go anywhere and she listens to everything with her tail waggin

"I'm very pleased with it. Both the collar and the transmitter are rechargable so I never have to buy those specialized batteries. Also both the transmitter and collar are more compact but still work like the older larger and heavier models."

"Easy to use. Works well. Make sure you have the collar tight enough to make good contact. Level 2 is plenty for my 40lb dog, I thought at first when my dog did not respond to it, it was not set at a high enough setting. I took it off him and tried touching the contacts with my fingers and zapped myself - a good wake up at level 2! So I figured it was not tight enough, tightened up the collar and it worked much better. Good product."

"This collar is a very effective training tool. We have a very willful dog and have used several other training methods with limited success. This is the most effective method we've encountered. We only had to use the lowest levels of stimulation to get significant results. Now all we need is the tone for behavior correction. Be sure to watch the enclosed DVD so you use this collar properly and get the best results. Simply an outstanding product!"

"Great trainer! Other collars in the catalog do not allow for sizing (by cutting) of the collar because the antenna is embedded in the collar. The collars are made for dogs necks from 8 to 25 inches, and my dogs have 9-11 inch necks, so the inability to size the collar make those useless for small to mid-sized dogs' necks. The SportDOG collar is flexible with the antenna in the receiver, NOT the collar, so I was able to size it correctly. Also the 400 is expandable up to three dogs, a feature not found in the entry level models. After trying two other brands and contacting customer service of those companies for any other options (there were none), I tried SportDOG and am very satisfied with the product."

"-after a week or so of use it would not work in he cold but they sent a new battery and works fine now works well the lowest setting u can hardly notice it on your leg but on max it will make u jump"

"I am a professional dog trainer. Dealing with my customers behaviour issues in cities this collar system is ideal. I love the fact that both the transmitter and receiver are rechargable.
It is all small enough and simple enough to use that my typical customer has no problem using it. It meets all of my needs and all of my customer's needs. It is the most reasonabley priced system with complete rechargable pieces.
I have no problem recommending this to anyone. I have purchased many for my customers."

"Thank you! Thank you! I have a very cute Gordon Setter who is sweet and compliant in the house and brain-dead outside. At any opportunity, she bolts for the backlands--until now. After 3 weeks of renewed leash training, wearing an inactive collar, followed by 2 weeks of coordinated leash and "nicks" and another two weeks dragging the leash, my Molly is now leash-free and completely compliant outdoors. She stays within view; she comes when called. I rarely have to "nick" her at all. Even in the open fields, she responds to my whistle and returns to my side. This will be a much happier life for Molly and me--and my shoulder won't hurt from "leash strain". I was concerned about the money outlay and some negative reviews, but it is worth every cent for the freedom it has allowed us. Molly is a treat now!

"used the coller 2 times, the second time I used it on my dog the range was about 30 feet if that ,on a fully charged battery,what a wast of time sent it back and got a diffent brand.Should of listen to others reviewers."

WAITING FOR A NEW ONE, December 30, 2008

"I was excited about this product but was unable to get it to work so I called the Company not cabelas to see if they could walk me through the steps and they were very nice and told me what to do as I had already attempted this on my own. I was happy to know I was not at fault. They are sending a new one out and I have to send the non working one back on their dime. So I am hoping this one works, Then I will right a new review"
