Smoker Jacket,

"This item is recommended as an accessory with the 7-1 smoker. I bought 2 of them total. Neither came with any sort of instruction although they seemed simple enough. Unfortunately both melted and completely covered my smoker in melted and burnt plastic residues and ash.
If one looks closely at the ads in both the catalog and on-line, it becomes clear that over time, the 7-1 Smoker has undergone some design changes. This item was clearly meant to go with one of the earlier designs and not the current product."

"Looking at this prodect and the info description you would think as i did that this is a must have for colder weather. first of all the smoker jacket was too small. it would not get the temperature over 200 degrees farin.it needs to be made from better materials to hold the heat. there should be some sort of hood for the top. i placed a towel over the top of the smoker and that did the trick. Cabelas should do recall on this one!"

"The jacket doesn't fit very well, tight due to the hole placement in the jacket for the smoker's handles. I'm not very impressed with the fitment although it appears to be made well."

"The product really needs to be resized. It is like the seamstress didn't have the smoker there when the pattern for the jacket was cut. It doesn't fit correctly. It does the job of retaining heat and most smoke, but there is loss due to the bad fit. It helps to regulate the heat in the smoker fairly well, just at an irritating price. Until I can find on or make one that is better, I will continue to use."

Smoker Jacket Alternative,

"I purchased a smoker jacket and it works fine on my new smoker. However, I don't think it would have fit my old one. On my old one, I just used a cardboard wardrobe box purchased from a local moving company. It only cost a few dollars and worked great. I could smoke meat/fish in the winter time with no problem. It really held in the heat even in freezing temps. Just my $.02 worth for those who need an alternative to the smoker jacket."

"Dont really need this in the summer months,but works great in colder weather to help keep smoker up to temperture.Used one before at our camp and it helped a lot."

Jacket a must have,

"Even though the jacket does not fit well on the Cabelas smoker, it does work well.
The cut outs for the side handles are off center and thew jacket has to be pulled very hard to close.
Until I purchased and used the jacket my electric smoker never got over 210 degrees. Now with the jacket I get up to 250 degrees.
The jacket should have some type of nonflammable face towards the smoker. The material scorches and sticks to the rim of the top section.
I gave a 3 star rating because of the jacket fit and construction."

"I never would have thought the blanket would work that well. The heat is trapped keeping the temperature even. I highly recomend this accessory. Most of all I allready know come Thanksgiving I will be smoking the Turkey instead of placing it in the oven."

"This item is a must if you use the electric smoker. Without this jacket my smoker would only reach about 185 DegF and the wood pieces would hardly smoke, but with it I can reach temperatures well above that and it actually smokes. I have had good luck putting natural charcoal in with the wood chunks as well for added heat and smoke."

"The Smoker Jacket Works!!! After owning 5 smokers over the years and using tinfoil and homemade windbreaks, this is a pleasure to own. The product pays for itself with reduced fuel consumption. Easy to use - like putting on a jacket only easier. My only regret is not owning one sooner!!! I would highly recommend this as a #1 accessory if you use your smoker year round as we do in cold or windy conditions."
