Designed for hunters, the waterproof, camouflaged iFinder Hunter is a precision 12-parallel channel, WAAS-enabled GPS that's rugged enough for any location. It has exclusive, hunting-specific icons to mark your treestands, game signs such as rubs and scrapes, the location of your truck or ATV, and actual game animal icons including big game, small game, upland and waterfowl. Each are named for you so you don't have to press lots of buttons to name them but that option exists if you desire. Unit has a scout mode that allows the user to scout the perimeter of an area such as a food plot and put down electronic flags. The unit then connects the dots and completes the shape. This feature is highly useful for scouting bedding areas, food plots and marking blood trails. Plus, it has a built-in electronic compass and barometric altimeter. The watertight case has a sure-grip rubber welt that makes it waterproof to IPX7 standards. The hunting-specific graphic icons can mark up to 1,000 of your favorite spots. The WAAS receiver lets you pinpoint a location to within 3 meters, and the GPS is capable of storing 1,000 waypoints, 1,000 event markers and 100 routes, along with 100 plot trails. "I haven't used any other GPS systems so I cant really comment on comparability. This one did the job just fine for me during an Elk hunt in section 48, New Mexico. Very unfamiliar terrain to me and I was able to navigate my way to and from trails and back to camp without problem. Its definitely one that you have to practice withas it took some time to figure out. Using the basic bells and whistles was all I needed it for. It has some pretty sophisticated things that I didnt need. Highly recommend it for the price."

"Having used the GPS for two years now in some of the most demanding conditions it has exceeded all of my expectations. It will put you within 2 to 3 yards of whatever you have entered and are looking for. With a little practice it is a very easy unit to use. Battery life is very good with one set usually lasting a day of continued use. I would highly recommend purchasing the Map Create software to go along with your unit. This software is easily downloaded onto a memory card and then put into the GPS. This will show all the topographic features of the area you are in with additional information not shown on most maps. (Such as Springs and points of interest) Especially like the custom icons specially designed for hunters that come with unit."

"I purchased one of these gps units after reading all you could do with it, after receiving it I could not get a satelite page on my unit, and I also did not have an advanced mode on my menu page. I tried several ways to obtain the info I needed, but I could not, so I sent the unit back and ordered another one, only to have the same problem. The issue I have with it is you can't do any of the things I wanted the unit for, without the advanced mode. Help!!"

"I resisted getting a new GPS after loosing an older one I had. That had basically been an electronic compas because short of being in a field it rarely held signal and as a result was an expensive and big compas and that is about it!
I hunt some big woods areas and some areas that are very new to me or my wife so I opted to try a GPS again. I liked what I had read about the IFinder so went that way.
It has, in my opionion, amazing signal pick up. Even in thick hemlocks I get "reception". I am very impressed so far using the unit with its ease of operation and ability to recieve signal.
However, if your getting this unit, save your money and buy the unit with the installed mapping software. For an extra hundred bucks I suspect it is well worth it.
It is great so far, I have been able to use the way points and navigate well in new areas or the dark. That is great. I just wish I had shelled out the money because the mapping software addition would have made it easier to use in the field."

"I didn't buy the plus package because i thought the built-in map would be good enough, but unless you plan on only road-hunting major highways i would buy the software and memory card package. The unit itself is very good but when you zoom in on specific areas where there are no roads or lakes there is nothing but a blank screen, so you need to make your own topo map to help you."

"Not impressed at all. I have used a lot of GPS units in the past and this has been the most complicated and difficult to use in the field. Too many menus and layers to menus to operate simple functions. Users manual doesn't explain the features and how to use them at all. When I transferred waypoints and trails to my pc mapping program I found that the unit is not very accurate (even after trying to calibrate it three times). Every waypoint was off by 1500 yds. That is a lot. Call the company and they don't seem to have a clue what the problem is. My old Garmin 12 pin points my position to within 25 ft every time and is easy to use in the field. My opinion is this unit is not worth the price. Most important feature of any GPS unit is the ease of use. Lowrance fails to provide that."
