Mr. Heater® Portable Big Buddy™ Heater

With the output to heat up to 400 square feet for up to 120 hours on a bulk cylinder, this powerful little heater is ideal for taking the chill off almost any place you need extra warmth. And because it's equipped with a low-oxygen shut-off pilot safety, it can be used safely in tents, blinds, ice shacks and other enclosed areas. Three settings let you adjust the heat from 4,000, to 9,000 or 18,000 BTUs/hr. Two one-pound propane cylinders provide from 6 to 12 hours of radiant and convection heat for maximum efficiency. It even includes a blower fan, powered by four D-cell batteries (batteries not included) so you can direct warmed air into chilly corners or other hard-to-heat areas. A storage bay accommodates up to 12 feet of hose, sold separately, for use with bulk propane cylinders. Recommended for use at altitudes below 7,000 feet. Dimensions: 17-1/2"H x 17"W x 10"D.

"Bought a jumping jack trailer for excursions, nearly froze the first time I took it out. I bought the Big buddy heater and loved it, early in the evening it keeps the tent warm on the lowest setting and when you get up it only takes minutes to warm up, would recommend to anyone with a tent or trailer, O2 sensor a plus"

"I have had this heater for over a month now and find myself using it often. Instead of having to fire up a large shop heater working on the car this heater helps take off the chill. I've used it outside on cold evenings sitting on the porch and it does a wonderful job of putting heat in my direction. Can't wait to try it this season in hunting shack."

Great heat but........, October 12, 2009

"I just bought and used the heater for the first time over this past weekend in an old pop-up trailer in the New Hampshire Mountains. We had nights down in the 30's and 40's. It worked very well and generates some big heat, but I had the following concerns.
I wish the fan blew with a little more force. When the propane ran out and I changed the small propane canisters, it was difficult to re-light. I realize there is an air pocket upon replacing the canisters but it was a little scary. The pilot came right on but it took a little bit to actually get the heater operational again. Also when at it's highest output setting, the counter top I had it on did get alarmingly hot so I moved the heater right to the edge of the counter. I would be hesitant to use this if it was to sit directly on a tent floor. I think in the future I will place the heater on a piece of plywood treated with Heat / Fire resistant paint.....just for piece of mind. All in all, a nice heater for the money. Got it on sale with a free carry bag."

"I started out with the buddy heater (small one) while camping and it worked great. I was so impressed i exchange the small one for the larger big buddy. I have a room in the house that is a little colder in the winter. I also bought the quick connect for the 20lb tank and this eliminates the fuel filter that is recomended. I have read the negative reviews and SOME of them are related to failure to read the owners manual.
Over all this is a great product *****"

"I purchased the Big Buddy Heater for those cold days in a duck blind. It works great. It has a fan to move the heat and runs on {2} two one pound lp tanks. I also purchased the portable Buddy...For the days when you just want to knock off the chill. Both work great.
*Cabelas sells the EZ fill propane coupler...a must to refill these one pound tanks..."

"Bought one and took it ice fishing for the RV at night so we didn't have to run the forced air furnace, I know what a bummer..... Was -5 outside, thought no problem, Mr. Buddy is here. The unit wouldn't stay running, kept blowing out the pilot light. Pretty disappointing, but did manage to get it to work the next day, but had to manually keep lighting it until it was stable and did stay on until it was out of fuel. Just roasted out the guy on the top bunk. Took that one back and got another one that wouldn't light when on low unless you blew on it, then it seemed to work fine. Put batteries in it and the fan made some bad fan noise that would have kept you awake at night, so it went back as well. I'm on the 3 time a charm thing and so far the 3rd one is doing OK, but have not had it in high elevations and under a I really need this too work condition. So, we'll see if it was worth the time & money?"

"this heater rocks! i bought it to take the place of as costly and complicated heater system in my camp trailer and could not be happier. puts out loads of heat. its easy to light and is small and portable. make sure to order the inline filter to protect the unit if used with larger tanks and give it time to bleed out air in the line when lighting. a must for the outdoorsman that likes to be out and about in nasty weather but enjoys thawing out too."

"After trying other portable heaters, Big Buddy has been the easiest to use and love the abilty to control temperture settings. Great for a work shop or a garage work shop setting.
Should be great to use in a family tent for winter camping.

"During the recent Ice storm we lost power for five days. A lady from church brought over a Mr. Heater "buddy" to help keep me warm. My wife and son left me to protect the house and dog (they came back when the lights came on) so I was cold for five days.
I was impressed with the "Buddy" so as soon as power came back on I went online and saw the "Big Buddy" of course I bougt it and I had to get the "Quick connect hose" so I could use a big tank. It got here fast and works great on two small disposable tanks or the big tank. I would go for the "Quick connect hose" as runtime is super. I was not overly impressed with the fan but it helped. I also got the case wich is nice.

"The My Buddy Mr Heater I ordered arrived approximately two weeks before a major Ice Storm hit this area and I was without electrical power for five days. The outside temperatures at night were as low as 16 degrees F.
The Mr Heater kept kept my house (2000 sq ft) at 55 to 60 degrees throughout the period of the major Ice Storm and power outage as the only source of heat. It really did the job for the emergency conditions and I recommend this product unconditionally."

"I purchased the Big Buddy Heater with the quick connect hose (with built in regulator) and carry case. Used on a Dec. 08 late season deer hunt when the temp. dropped into the teens. We used this inside a trailer in addition to the trailer heater as it got real cold at night, Have used in my camper , boat and it works as advertised, designed well. Definitely purchase the 12' hose with built in regulator, if you plan to run this on a bulk tank, had a buddy who used a regular hose on his the the unit kept going out (too much pressure). Also purchased the carry case keeps the unit clean and has compartments for 2 - 16 oz. propane tanks."

"I was about ready to launch this unit out of my 5th wheel. We tried the 2 portable tanks and it wouldn't stay lit for more than 10 minutes. The pilot was very noisy and orange as well. The pilot blew out when you changed settings. We figured we'd try it with a 20lb tank and the quick connect hose, before returning it. Well, what a difference that made. It lights right away and stays lit. The pilot runs great, nice, quiet, and blue. You can change setting without blowing out the pilot. The fan works great on 4 D cells. On the low setting, it kept our 30ft 5th wheel at 71 degrees, when it was 20 outside. It kept a 69 degree temp on the medium setting, and it was -10 outside. The only time we use the high setting, is to warm up the place for an hour when we get there. I would buy another, but I'll save the little bottles for the lantern."

"Excellent for the ice shack. I have used it on sub zero days and with the heat on high in a 1 man shack you can honestly sit in your T-shirt. Best portable heater I have ever owned. After the first time I used it I sold all my other portables. I highly reccommend getting the 12 foot hose and hooking it to a 20 pound cylinder. One fill will set you up for the entire winter."

"My family tent camps a few times a year. My tent (known as the big tent) is where the women and children stay! Babies are not known for staying under the covers, so I bought the Big Buddy to keep my tent at a reasonable temp for the little people. It works great. I set it on medium before bed time and then turn it down to low. I have never had a problem, and the tent stays warm even at temps in the 20's (we've never camped in colder weather) My tent is just a 3 season tent, (mesh roof with rain fly)so I'd imagine that the Big Buddy would do an even better job in an outfitters or canvas tent.

I have also used it with the one pound tanks inside to thaw frozen pipes.... This is a nice little heater."
