"It's well-made, sturdy, and reliable. The combination is easy to set to your own desired sequence.
Yes, there are ways to "hack" the combination by guessing all 1081 possible combinations (each button can only realistically be used once, limiting the max # of combinations) but this box is not in my view intended for safe storage in a hostile environment (buy a true safe for that). It is, however, useful for child safety while retaining quick access."

"I bought this safe, because I wanted a product that I could rely on in a pinch. With no batteries or biometric systems to fail, this safe is was just what I was looking for. I was not disappointed when it arrived. It's compact enough to slide under a bed, seems sturdy and well made, and easy to operate. It was very easy to set the lock to the combination sequence I wanted, and easy enough to open it in the dark only by feel. "This product is superbly executed -- it delivers exactly what it is supposed to deliver. 7.6 lbs empty. Four small bolt holes in the bottom, suitable for mounting the safe to a solid surface if necessary. Thick, heavily coated steel that would take at least five minutes, and a lot of noise, for a strong man to defeat with normal tools such as a crowbar and two hammers. It easily holds a full-sized auto pistol and three spare magazines, and the thick foam immobilizes all contents so that there is no shifting or rattling when it's closed. The push-button combination lock system can be set for a huge variety of combinations that can involve all five buttons, including a single button, combinations of buttons, two buttons punched at the same time, etc., which would be virtually impossible to guess. And no electronics, so no battery problems. It's tough, and there isn't any point in making it tougher because a thief could simply carry the whole thing away. If you can't or won't put your pistol in a true heavy closet safe, this is just about perfect for the purpose of keeping a pistol away from kids. My only complaint is that it's expensive for such a simple device. But I can't fault the manufacturer for charging what the market will bear."

"Bought this as a quick-access safe for a Glock 27. Pistol fits easily in the right 1/3 of the box, with plenty of room for 3-4 magazines. Easy to program out of the box with provided instructions and easy to open after that.
Box is solid and pretty heavy. Obviously not for burglary prevention, but keeps the gun out of reach of the bad guy and within quick reach of the good guy. Padding seems to keep the contents from rattling around too much. Foam also seems to recover well after contents removed.
I've actually been able to cram almost two boxes of 2 3/4 #6 birdshot shells in there along with the pistol (don't ask why, but it fits). Not sure how spatious it would be with a larger pistol, but I imagine it would have plenty of room.
Wish it came with the removable mounting plate, but I guess not everyone wants/needs it.
I looked at AMSEC PB2, but the "simplicity" and reliability of the simplex lock won me over. Confident I could open this one in the dark if I could get my hands on it."

"I ordered this because it was top opening, so I could fit it in my nightstand drawer. It is very solid, and doesn't require batteries for the lock, completely mechanical. It is also big enough to easily fit my 6" Colt. With a firearm, it is a little heavy, so any drawer you put it in will need to be sturdy to support the weight when the drawer is opened."

"i really like this lock-box. i've only had it for about 4 days, so maybe i'm missing something, we'll see. i researched many styles and quality levels of similar products, and i believe this is one of the best available anywhere right now. it works as advertised, the combo is easy to change and it has a very solid feel. like anything that's not really a safe, it can be broken in to if someone had the right tools and some time, but it will keep out most people. it's an excellent deterrent. i got tired of replacing batteries in my safe and greatly appreciate the fact that i won't have to worry about that with this item. no keys to worry about and no wondering if the lock mechanism will work each time you want it too. anyone who needs access to their gun or other valuables on a daily basis will like this box and its simplicity. a couple of negatives: i wish cabela's carried the compact version of this item made by the manufacturer. it would save about 2 inches each for length and width, which could be very important for those who have limited space to keep this in, like drawers. this box could hold 2 or even 3 guns, depending on size etc, and is more than i need. however this was the best deal i could find of any place that sold this brand of pistol safes. i would also like for there to be a cable included for temporarily securing to an object. overall i am very satisfied, and i will keep my eye open in the future for the compact model. here's hoping."

"I was pleased with its sturdiness. I trust the mechanical lock more than the electronic ones...I'm paranoid that the battery will fail when needed. I already had purchased three similar quick access gun lock-boxes. This one has beefier construction and better finish than my prior Cannon boxes. And I was quite pleased with them. "The pistol safe is nice. Its quite large, but still good sized for a drawer or other small area. I did not want to mess with batteries, power adapters or anything else associated with the electronic safes. I bought one of the Mini-Vault models and learned that if the batteries go dead, the combination resets to 1234 (buttons left to right) .... so simple a child could open it, and THAT is why I don't use it. That Mini-Vault deluxe is a nice safe and in fact, its heading to my father's place where there are no children to be found.
Back to this safe - it is easy to set the combination you want and I also like the idea of clearing the codes (turn knob counter-clockwise) before entering the combo ... If you hear the tumblers reset, u know someone was messing with the safe. Or if you purposely push a button after locking it and later go to clear it and there's nothing to clear, you know that its been messed with. Its not as foolproof as the electronic lights and beeps that can tell you if someone tried accessing your safe, but its good. Oh yeah, its EMP-proof also if you're worried about those kind of scenarios.
If it were $20 or $30 cheaper, I'd get another one.. but the price is the only drawback to this safe. Still earns 5 stars because the price is pretty close to similar products."
