The Alaskan Guide Series Mini Alpha Knife by Buck completely redefines how performance is judged in compact modern cutlery. The 2-1/2" drop-point blade is crafted of S30V steel. Developed by Crucible Steel, S30V is made up of metallic powders fused together under intense pressure and heat. It is tempered under extremely high temperatures then cooled in a cryogenic freezer. The resulting metal delivers a fine combination of edge retention (45% greater than 420HC), flexibility and hardness (59-61 Rockwell) while remaining easy to sharpen with conventional stones. This steel also has a high chromium content for oxidation resistance. For even greater corrosion resistance, each knife is treated with a titanium aluminum nitride coating. Our field testing and independent Cutlery Allied Trade Research Association tests prove these knives outperform those crafted with other blade metals. Features Rosewood scale handles and includes a leather sheath. Made in USA.
Overall length: 6-1/4".
Weight: 3.6 oz.
Available: Rosewood, Desert Ironwood.

Excellent Product!, October 28, 2009

"Very nice knife. High quality and very nice sheath. The factory edge is sharp enough to shave hair, but a little rough. A little honing is need to put an even sharper smooth razor sharp edge on it. The knife is too nice, I'm afraid to use it!"

The Statement, August 22, 2009
By m289inva from Virginia

"Recently purchased the desert ironwood version. OMG nice. Used as an alterative to open carry handgun. Just the right size, looks and quality that say's nice knife yet is not offensive (rambo). Hopefully I will never have to use it for the real reason I purchased it. This knife sends a clear message... find an easier target!"

mini alpha hunter, February 3, 2009
By hntaz

"The blade size might seem short to some, but it's the perfect size for gutting and skinning. I find I only use the last 2-3 inches of my knives anyway, so this knife is perfect. When I'm working blind while gutting I know exactly where the blade is, it fits perfectly in my hand.

This is my first S30V knife. I've used the mini-alpha on one whitetail and one javalina so far. Still sharp as new.

The rosewood handle and overall finish quality is perfect. Looks like it will last a lifetime. I would buy it again in a minute.

Mini Alpha, January 5, 2009
By BAKEOH1 from BAKERSFIELD, CA

"This is probably the best little hunting knife you can get. I would say for anything deer size and smaller, this is all you need. Quality, construction, form and fit are outstanding. If you're like me and were trying to decide to get it or not....go for it, you will be very happy. Can't say enough about this knife."

Great Knife!, December 4, 2008
By jlloydf13 from Duluth, MN

"I shopped many hours last Christmas looking for the knife I wanted to ask for. After debating some of the tough looking knives with D2 steel (which my Dad owns) I took a chance on this one due to it's size and great reviews on S30V. The weight balances perfectly for skinning and deboning deer. I skinned out 3 deer this year and laughed as my Dad threw his D2 on the ground becuase skinning 1 deer had dulled it.
I also own Buck's Vanguard with softer steel for gutting and some deboning. The quality wood finish and steel on both Buck knives make them a pleasure to own. I was nervous the S30V was too hard to knock on bones, but as soon as I wear out or lose my Drop-point Vanguard I'll be replacing it too with the Buck Drop-Point Alaska Guide Vanguard.

The do all knife., November 4, 2008
By usmccowboy from chula vista , california

"The perfect , ( do all knife) its not to light and its not to heavy. the first night i had it i was out in the back country in southern
cal right next to mexico helpin my buddy clean his first mully of the year. I us it in the house for cooking preparing steaks, vegies, any meal i cook. i use it cutting rope, on wood, construction material, basically every thing, and its still razor sharp. when i buy a knife, or any hunting items, it has to be AMERICAN made. if it doesnt support my red, white and blue. i wont buy it. but amazing knife, well worth the money and will outlast us....

Little Knife, Big Expectations, October 14, 2008
By criball from Abilene, TX

"I have never had a true quality hunting knife, so purchasing a knife, that to me seemed so expensive, was a little daunting. I trusted Cabelas and the reviews, and decided that it was the knife I was looking for. I was surprised and somewhat comforted by the weight of such a small knife, it fit perfectly in my hand, and was extremely balanced. The rosewood handle exuded the quality of the knife. The blade was sharp upon delivery, but still needed a little honing to achieve the sharpness it was meant to have. I have no doubt it will retain its edge long after others are thrown away. My brother, who is a police offficer, has always made fun of my knives and their sharpness but he won't anymore. I am not only happy with my purchase, but I am very proud to own such a quality knife, that I know will stay with me for many a hunting season.
The only negative is the sheath, while high quality, the knife cuts the sheath everytime it is inserted or removed. The sheath seemingly will last only a fraction as long as the knife.
Although the Mini Hunter is a small knife I cannot imagine a job it cannot do.

Alaskan Guide Mini Alpha Knife, March 7, 2008

"Outstanding knife. Extremely sharp, easy to carry, great to carry along on other activities, such as day hikes, etc. It is small, though, and watch when returning to sheath, as it's real easy to cut the sheath."

Excellent little knife., January 16, 2008
By Win94 from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

"I purchased this knife earlier in the fall so I've only had it through one deer season. It did get used to skin out 3 deer.

I mainly carry a Buck 110 folding skinning knife to field dress the deer since I don't like carring sheath knives as I find them too cumbersome on my belt.

Although I wouldn't give up by Buck 110, I was looking for a smaller bladed knife that would be useful for skinning out deer. After reading reviews of the mini-alpha and of the Cabela's Alaskan guide knives, I decided to order one.

I am very impressed with the quality of this knife. Even the leather sheath was well made. The knife was very sharp out of the box. The knife fit well in my hand and the size was just about right for removing the hide of the animal.

A couple of my hunting buddies, really liked it and are going to be ordering one for themselves.

I like Cabela's Alaskan Guide series knives so well I also bought the full sized Alpha.

The Little Knife That Could, November 23, 2007
By hunterred

"All though this knife is small it can do just about anything. When I first
opened it I thought “That’s not a knife.” Boy was I wrong. It can do
every thing you need in the field or back at the hunting lodge. The
knife is very sharp and holds its edge VERY well. I helped skin out 5
white tail deer and processed 4 and still don’t need to sharpen it.
Every hunter that used it wants one for Christmas. Because the knife is
so small you don’t even know you are wearing it. One thing I have
always disliked about fixed blade knifes is that they catch on things
when you sit down. Not this one. It is a little pricey but worth every
penny.
